第3章

1 耶和華留下這幾族，為要試驗以色列［Israel］─那從以色列所出［of Israel］、不曾知道與迦南爭戰之事的［had not known all the wars of Canaan］；

2 好叫以色列的後代又知道又學習未曾曉得的戰事。

3 所留下的就是非利士的五個首領和一切迦南人、西頓人，並住黎巴嫩山的希未人，從巴力．黑們山直到進入哈馬的入口［entering in of Hamath］。

4 留下這幾族，為要試驗以色列［Israel］，知道他們肯聽從耶和華藉摩西吩咐他們列祖的誡命不肯。

5 以色列人竟住在迦南人、赫人、亞摩利人、比利洗人、希未人、耶布斯人中間，

6 娶他們的女兒為妻，將自己的女兒嫁給他們的兒子，並事奉他們的眾神。

7 以色列人行耶和華眼中看為惡的事，忘記耶和華─他們的神，去事奉諸巴力和樹叢［groves］，

8 所以耶和華的怒氣向以色列［Israel］發作，就把他們交在美索不達米亞王古珊．利薩田的手中；以色列人服事古珊．利薩田八年。

9 以色列人呼求耶和華的時候，耶和華就為以色列人［children of Israel］興起一個拯救者救他們，就是迦勒的幼弟［younger brother］基納斯的兒子俄陀聶。

10 耶和華的靈［Spirit］降在他身上，他就作了以色列的士師，出去爭戰。耶和華將美索不達米亞王古珊．利薩田交在他手中，他便勝了古珊．利薩田。

11 於是國中太平四十年。基納斯的兒子俄陀聶死了。

12 以色列人又行耶和華眼中看為惡的事，耶和華就使摩押王伊磯倫強盛，攻擊以色列［Israel］，因為他們行了耶和華眼中看為惡的事［because they had done evil in the sight of the LORD］。

13 伊磯倫招聚亞捫人和亞瑪力人，去攻打以色列［Israel］，佔據棕樹城。

14 於是以色列人服事摩押王伊磯倫十八年。

15 以色列人呼求耶和華的時候，耶和華就為他們興起一個拯救者，就是便雅憫人基拉的兒子以笏；他是左手便利的。以色列人託他送禮物給摩押王伊磯倫。

16 以笏打了一把兩刃的匕首［dagger］，長一肘，帶在右腿上衣服裏面。

17 他將禮物獻給摩押王伊磯倫，原來伊磯倫極其肥胖；

18 以笏獻完禮物，便將抬禮物的人打發走了，

19 自己卻從靠近吉甲鑿石之地回來，說：「王啊，我有一件機密事奏告你。」王說：「靜默［Keep silence］吧。」於是左右侍立的人都退去了。

20 以笏來到王面前；王獨自一人坐在涼樓上。以笏說：「我從神那裏有信息報告你［I have a message from God unto thee］。」王就從座位上站起來。

21 以笏便伸左手，從右腿上拔出匕首［dagger］來，刺入王的肚腹。

22 柄把［dagger］也［also］隨匕刃［blade］進去了；並且［and］劍被肥肉夾住，以致他不能將匕首從他肚腹拔出來［so that he could not draw the dagger out of his belly］；便有污穢從中傾出［and the dirt came out］。

23 以笏就出到遊廊，將樓門盡都關鎖。

24 以笏出來之後，王的僕人到了，看見樓門關鎖，就說：「他必是在樓上大解。」

25 他們等煩了，見仍不開樓門，就拿鑰匙開了，不料，他們的主人已死，倒在地上。

26 他們耽延的時候，以笏就逃跑了，經過鑿石之地，逃到西伊拉；

27 他［he］到了，就在以法蓮山地吹號［trumpet］，以色列人隨著他下了山地，他在前頭引路。

28 對他們說：「你們隨我來，因為耶和華已經把你們的仇敵摩押人交在你們手中。」於是他們跟著他下去，把守約旦河的渡口，不容摩押一人過去。

29 那時擊殺了摩押人約有一萬，都是強壯的勇士，沒有一人逃脫。

30 這樣，摩押就在那日伏在以色列的手下［subdued that day under the hand of Israel］。國中太平八十年。

31 以笏之後，有亞拿的兒子珊迦，他用趕牛的棍子打死六百非利士人；他也救了以色列［Israel］。

1 Now these428 are the nations1471 which834 the LORD3068 left,5117 to prove5254 853 Israel3478 by them, even853 as many3605 834 of Israel as had not3808 known3045 853 all3605 the wars4421 of Canaan;3667

2 Only7535 that4616 the generations1755 of the children1121 of Israel3478 might know,3045 to teach3925 them war,4421 at the least7535 such as834 before6440 knew3045 nothing3808 thereof;

3 Namely, five2568 lords5633 of the Philistines,6430 and all3605 the Canaanites,3669 and the Sidonians,6722 and the Hivites2340 that dwelt3427 in mount2022 Lebanon,3844 from mount4480 2022 Baal-hermon1179 unto5704 the entering in935 of Hamath.2574

4 And they were1961 to prove5254 853 Israel3478 by them, to know3045 whether they would hearken8085 unto853 the commandments4687 of the LORD,3068 which834 he commanded6680 853 their fathers1 by the hand3027 of Moses.4872

5 And the children1121 of Israel3478 dwelt3427 among7130 the Canaanites,3669 Hittites,2850 and Amorites,567 and Perizzites,6522 and Hivites,2340 and Jebusites: 2983

6 And they took3947 853 their daughters1323 to be their wives,802 and gave5414 their daughters1323 to their sons,1121 and served5647 853 their gods.430

7 And the children1121 of Israel3478 did6213 853 evil7451 in the sight5869 of the LORD,3068 and forgot7911 853 the LORD3068 their God,430 and served5647 853 Baalim1168 and the groves.842

8 Therefore the anger639 of the LORD3068 was hot2734 against Israel,3478 and he sold4376 them into the hand3027 of Cushan-rishathaim3573 king4428 of Mesopotamia:763 and the children1121 of Israel3478 served5647 853 Cushan-rishathaim3573 eight8083 years.8141

9 And when the children1121 of Israel3478 cried2199 unto413 the LORD,3068 the LORD3068 raised up6965 a deliverer3467 to the children1121 of Israel,3478 who delivered3467 them, even853 Othniel6274 the son1121 of Kenaz,7073 Caleb's3612 younger6996 brother.251

10 And the Spirit7307 of the LORD3068 came1961 upon5921 him, and he judged8199 853 Israel,3478 and went out3318 to war:4421 and the LORD3068 delivered5414 853 Cushan-rishathaim3573 king4428 of Mesopotamia763 into his hand;3027 and his hand3027 prevailed5810 against5921 Cushan-rishathaim.3573

11 And the land776 had rest8252 forty705 years.8141 And Othniel6274 the son1121 of Kenaz7073 died.4191

12 And the children1121 of Israel3478 did6213 evil7451 again3254 in the sight5869 of the LORD:3068 and the LORD3068 strengthened2388 853 Eglon5700 the king4428 of Moab4124 against5921 Israel,3478 because5921 3588 they had done6213 853 evil7451 in the sight5869 of the LORD.3068

13 And he gathered622 unto413 him853 the children1121 of Ammon5983 and Amalek,6002 and went1980 and smote5221 853 Israel,3478 and possessed3423 853 the city5892 of palm trees.8558

14 So the children1121 of Israel3478 served5647 853 Eglon5700 the king4428 of Moab4124 eighteen8083 6240 years.8141

15 But when the children1121 of Israel3478 cried2199 unto413 the LORD,3068 the LORD3068 raised them up6965 a deliverer,3467 853 Ehud261 the son1121 of Gera,1617 a Benjamite,1121 1145 a man376 left-handed:334 3027 3225 and by him3027 the children1121 of Israel3478 sent7971 a present4503 unto Eglon5700 the king4428 of Moab.4124

16 But Ehud261 made6213 him a dagger2719 which had two8147 edges,6366 of a cubit1574 length;753 and he did gird2296 it under4480 8478 his raiment4055 upon5921 his right3225 thigh.3409

17 And he brought7126 853 the present4503 unto Eglon5700 king4428 of Moab:4124 and Eglon5700 was a very3966 fat1277 man.376

18 And when834 he had made an end3615 to offer7126 853 the present,4503 he sent away7971 853 the people5971 that bore5375 the present.4503

19 But he1931 himself turned again7725 from4480 the quarries6456 that834 were by854 Gilgal,1537 and said,559 I have a secret5643 errand1697 unto thee, O king:4428 who said,559 Keep silence.2013 And all3605 that stood5975 by him went out3318 from4480 5921 him.

20 And Ehud261 came935 unto413 him; and he1931 was sitting3427 in a summer4747 parlor,5944 which834 he had for himself alone.905 And Ehud261 said,559 I have a message1697 from God430 unto413 thee. And he arose6965 out of4480 5921 his seat.3678

21 And Ehud261 put forth7971 853 his left8040 hand,3027 and took3947 853 the dagger2719 from4480 5921 his right3225 thigh,3409 and thrust8628 it into his belly: 990

22 And the haft5325 also1571 went in935 after310 the blade;3851 and the fat2459 closed5462 upon1157 the blade,3851 so that3588 he could not3808 draw8025 the dagger2719 out of his belly;4480 990 and the dirt6574 came out.3318

23 Then Ehud261 went forth3318 through the porch,4528 and shut5462 the doors1817 of the parlor5944 upon him,1157 and locked5274 them.

24 When he1931 was gone out,3318 his servants5650 came;935 and when they saw7200 that, behold,2009 the doors1817 of the parlor5944 were locked,5274 they said,559 Surely389 he1931 covereth5526 853 his feet7272 in his summer4747 chamber.2315

25 And they tarried2342 till5704 they were ashamed:954 and, behold,2009 he opened6605 not369 the doors1817 of the parlor;5944 therefore they took3947 853 a key,4668 and opened6605 them: and, behold,2009 their lord113 was fallen down5307 dead4191 on the earth.776

26 And Ehud261 escaped4422 while5704 they tarried,4102 and passed beyond5674 853 the quarries,6456 and escaped4422 unto Seirath.8167

27 And it came to pass,1961 when he was come,935 that he blew8628 a trumpet7782 in the mountain2022 of Ephraim,669 and the children1121 of Israel3478 went down3381 with5973 him from4480 the mount,2022 and he1931 before6440 them.

28 And he said559 unto413 them, Follow7291 after310 me: for3588 the LORD3068 hath delivered5414 853 your enemies341 853 the Moabites4124 into your hand.3027 And they went down3381 after310 him, and took3920 853 the fords4569 of Jordan3383 toward Moab,4124 and suffered5414 not3808 a man376 to pass over.5674

29 And they slew5221 of853 Moab4124 at that1931 time6256 about ten6235 thousand505 men,376 all3605 lusty,8082 and all3605 men376 of valor;2428 and there escaped4422 not3808 a man.376

30 So Moab4124 was subdued3665 that1931 day3117 under8478 the hand3027 of Israel.3478 And the land776 had rest8252 fourscore8084 years.8141

31 And after310 him was1961 Shamgar8044 the son1121 of Anath,6067 which slew5221 of853 the Philistines6430 six8337 hundred3967 men376 with an ox1241 goad:4451 and he1931 also1571 delivered3467 853 Israel.3478

1 耶和華留下這幾族，為要試驗以色列［Israel］─那從以色列所出［of Israel］、不曾知道與迦南爭戰之事的［had not known all the wars of Canaan］；

1 Now these428 are the nations1471 which834 the LORD3068 left,5117 to prove5254 853 Israel3478 by them, even853 as many3605 834 of Israel as had not3808 known3045 853 all3605 the wars4421 of Canaan;3667

2 好叫以色列的後代又知道又學習未曾曉得的戰事。

10 耶和華的靈［Spirit］降在他身上，他就作了以色列的士師，出去爭戰。耶和華將美索不達米亞王古珊．利薩田交在他手中，他便勝了古珊．利薩田。

11 於是國中太平四十年。基納斯的兒子俄陀聶死了。

13 伊磯倫招聚亞捫人和亞瑪力人，去攻打以色列［Israel］，佔據棕樹城。

13 And he gathered622 unto413 him853 the children1121 of Ammon5983 and Amalek,6002 and went1980 and smote5221 853 Israel,3478 and possessed3423 853 the city5892 of palm trees.8558

18 以笏獻完禮物，便將抬禮物的人打發走了，

18 And when834 he had made an end3615 to offer7126 853 the present,4503 he sent away7971 853 the people5971 that bore5375 the present.4503

19 自己卻從靠近吉甲鑿石之地回來，說：「王啊，我有一件機密事奏告你。」王說：「靜默［Keep silence］吧。」於是左右侍立的人都退去了。

21 And Ehud261 put forth7971 853 his left8040 hand,3027 and took3947 853 the dagger2719 from4480 5921 his right3225 thigh,3409 and thrust8628 it into his belly: 990

22 柄把［dagger］也［also］隨匕刃［blade］進去了；並且［and］劍被肥肉夾住，以致他不能將匕首從他肚腹拔出來［so that he could not draw the dagger out of his belly］；便有污穢從中傾出［and the dirt came out］。

22 And the haft5325 also1571 went in935 after310 the blade;3851 and the fat2459 closed5462 upon1157 the blade,3851 so that3588 he could not3808 draw8025 the dagger2719 out of his belly;4480 990 and the dirt6574 came out.3318

23 以笏就出到遊廊，將樓門盡都關鎖。

24 以笏出來之後，王的僕人到了，看見樓門關鎖，就說：「他必是在樓上大解。」

27 And it came to pass,1961 when he was come,935 that he blew8628 a trumpet7782 in the mountain2022 of Ephraim,669 and the children1121 of Israel3478 went down3381 with5973 him from4480 the mount,2022 and he1931 before6440 them.

28 對他們說：「你們隨我來，因為耶和華已經把你們的仇敵摩押人交在你們手中。」於是他們跟著他下去，把守約旦河的渡口，不容摩押一人過去。

28 And he said559 unto413 them, Follow7291 after310 me: for3588 the LORD3068 hath delivered5414 853 your enemies341 853 the Moabites4124 into your hand.3027 And they went down3381 after310 him, and took3920 853 the fords4569 of Jordan3383 toward Moab,4124 and suffered5414 not3808 a man376 to pass over.5674

29 那時擊殺了摩押人約有一萬，都是強壯的勇士，沒有一人逃脫。

29 And they slew5221 of853 Moab4124 at that1931 time6256 about ten6235 thousand505 men,376 all3605 lusty,8082 and all3605 men376 of valor;2428 and there escaped4422 not3808 a man.376

30 這樣，摩押就在那日伏在以色列的手下［subdued that day under the hand of Israel］。國中太平八十年。

30 So Moab4124 was subdued3665 that1931 day3117 under8478 the hand3027 of Israel.3478 And the land776 had rest8252 fourscore8084 years.8141
