Chapter 2

1 But there were false5578 prophets5578 also2532 among1722 the people,2992 even2532 as there shall be false5572 teachers5572 among1722 you, who3748 privately3919 shall bring3919 in damnable684 heresies,139 even2532 denying720 the Lord1203 that bought59 them, and bring1863 on themselves1438 swift5031 destruction.684

2 And many4183 shall follow1811 their pernicious684 ways;684 by reason1223 of whom3739 the way3598 of truth225 shall be evil987 spoken987 of.

3 And through1722 covetousness4124 shall they with feigned4112 words3056 make1710 merchandise of you: whose3739 judgment2917 now of a long time1597 lingers691 not, and their damnation684 slumbers3573 not.

4 For if1487 God2316 spared5339 not the angels32 that sinned,264 but cast5020 them down to hell,5020 and delivered3860 them into chains4577 of darkness,2217 to be reserved5083 to judgment;2920

5 And spared5339 not the old744 world,2889 but saved5442 Noah3575 the eighth3590 person, a preacher2783 of righteousness,1343 bringing1863 in the flood2627 on the world2889 of the ungodly;765

6 And turning5077 the cities4172 of Sodom4670 and Gomorrha1116 into ashes5077 condemned2632 them with an overthrow,2692 making4160 them an ensample5262 to those3588 that after3195 should3195 live ungodly;764

7 And delivered4506 just1342 Lot,3091 vexed2669 with the filthy766 conversation391 of the wicked:113

8 (For that righteous1342 man dwelling1460 among1722 them, in seeing990 and hearing,189 vexed928 his righteous1342 soul5590 from day2250 to day2250 with their unlawful459 deeds;2041)

9 The Lord2962 knows1492 how to deliver4506 the godly2152 out of temptations,3986 and to reserve5083 the unjust94 to the day2250 of judgment2920 to be punished:2849

10 But chiefly3122 them that walk4198 after3694 the flesh4561 in the lust1939 of uncleanness,3394 and despise2706 government.2963 Presumptuous5113 are they, self-willed,829 they are not afraid5141 to speak987 evil987 of dignities.1391

11 Whereas3699 angels,32 which are greater3187 in power2479 and might,1411 bring5342 not railing989 accusation2920 against2596 them before3844 the Lord.2962

12 But these,3778 as natural5446 brute249 beasts,2226 made1080 to be taken259 and destroyed,5356 speak987 evil987 of the things that they understand50 not; and shall utterly2704 perish2704 in their own848 corruption;5356

13 And shall receive2865 the reward3408 of unrighteousness,93 as they that count2233 it pleasure2237 to riot5172 in the day2250 time. Spots4696 they are and blemishes,3470 sporting1792 themselves with their own848 deceivings539 while they feast4910 with you;

14 Having2192 eyes3788 full3324 of adultery,3428 and that cannot180 cease180 from sin;266 beguiling1185 unstable793 souls:5590 an heart2588 they have2192 exercised1128 with covetous4124 practices; cursed2671 children:5043

15 Which have2192 forsaken2641 the right2117 way,3598 and are gone4105 astray,4105 following1811 the way3598 of Balaam903 the son of Bosor,1007 who3739 loved25 the wages3408 of unrighteousness;93

16 But was rebuked2192 1649 for his iniquity:3892 the dumb880 ass5268 speaking5350 with man's444 voice5456 forbade2967 the madness3913 of the prophet.4396

17 These3778 are wells4077 without504 water,504 clouds3507 that are carried4064 with a tempest;2978 to whom3739 the mist2217 of darkness4655 is reserved5083 for ever.165

18 For when they speak5350 great5246 swelling5246 words of vanity,3153 they allure1185 through1722 the lusts1939 of the flesh,4561 through much wantonness,766 those3588 that were clean3689 escaped668 from them who live390 in error.4106

19 While they promise1861 them liberty,1657 they themselves846 are the servants1401 of corruption:5356 for of whom3739 a man5100 is overcome,2274 of the same3778 is he brought1402 in bondage.1402

20 For if1487 after they have escaped668 the pollutions3393 of the world2889 through1722 the knowledge1922 of the Lord2962 and Savior4990 Jesus2424 Christ,5547 they are again3825 entangled1707 therein,5125 and overcome,2274 the latter2078 end2078 is worse5501 with them than the beginning.4413

21 For it had been2258 better2909 for them not to have known1921 the way3598 of righteousness,1343 than,2228 after they have known1921 it, to turn1994 from the holy40 commandment1785 delivered3860 to them.

22 But it is happened4819 to them according to the true227 proverb,3942 The dog2965 is turned1994 to his own2398 vomit1829 again;1994 and the sow5300 that was washed3068 to her wallowing2946 in the mire.1004

Chapter 2

1 BUT there were false prophets also among the people, even as there will be false teachers among you, who shall bring in damnable heresies, even denying the LORD who has redeemed them, and thus bringing upon themselves swift destruction.

2 Many will follow their pernicious ways, by reason of whom the way of truth shall be evil spoken of.

3 And through covetousness, they will exploit you with feigned words: whose judgment from the very beginning has not ceased and their damnation is always active.

4 God did not spare the angels, who sinned, but cast them down to hell and delivered them into chains of darkness, to be reserved for tormenting judgment;

5 And did not spare the old world, but saved Noah the preacher of righteousness, with his family, eight in all, when he brought the flood upon the wicked people;

6 And set afire the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah, and condemned them with an upheaval, making them an example to those who hereafter should live ungodly;

7 And delivered righteous Lot, mortified by the filthy conduct of the lawless:

8 For while that pious man dwelt among them, in seeing and hearing their unlawful deeds, his righteous soul was vexed from day to day.

9 The LORD knows how to deliver from distress those who revere him, and he will reserve the wicked to be punished at the judgment day.

10 And especially will he punish those who follow after filthy lusts of the flesh, and have no respect for authority. Arrogant and selfwilled are they who do not tremble when they blaspheme against the glory;

11 Whereas angels who are greater in power and might do not bring upon themselves the condemnation of blasphemy.

12 But these men, as natural brute beasts, made for slaughter and destruction, speak evil of the things which they do not understand; and shall utterly perish in their own corruption;

13 And shall receive the reward of iniquity as they consider it a delightful thing to revel in the daytime. Spots and blemishes have they who sport themselves with their own deceivings as they feast in idleness;

14 And have eyes full of adultery, and of sin that does not cease: beguiling, unstable souls are they whose hearts are well versed in covetousness: accursed sons are they.

15 Who have forsaken the right way and are gone astray, following the way of Ba'laam, the son of Be-or, who loved the wages of unrighteousness;

16 But who was rebuked for his iniquity: a dumb ass, speaking with man's voice, halted the folly of the prophet.

17 These men are springs without water, as clouds that are carried with a tempest; the mist of darkness is reserved to them forever.

18 For when they speak great swelling words of vanity, they allure through the sensual lusts of the flesh; but there are those who flee at a word of warning from those who live in error.

19 They, while they promise liberty, themselves are the slaves of corruption: for a man is overcome by whatever it is that enslaves him.

20 For if after they have escaped the pollutions of the world through knowledge of our LORD and Saviour Jesus Christ, they are again entangled by these very things, and overcome, the latter end is worse with them than the beginning.

21 Verily it would have been better for them not to have known the way of righteousness, than, after they have known it, to turn from the holy commandment that was delivered to them.

22 It will come to pass with them according to the true proverb, The dog returns to his own vomit, and the sow that was washed to her wallowing in the mire.
