Chapter 1

1 Paul,3972 an apostle652 of Jesus2424 Christ5547 by the will2307 of God,2316 according2596 to the promise1860 of life2222 which3588 is in Christ5547 Jesus,2424

2 To Timothy,5095 my dearly beloved27 son:5043 Grace,5485 mercy,1656 and peace,1515 from God2316 the Father3962 and Christ5547 Jesus2424 our Lord.2962

3 I thank2192 5485 God,2316 whom3739 I serve3000 from my forefathers4269 with pure2513 conscience,4893 that without88 ceasing83 I have2192 remembrance3417 of you in my prayers1162 night3571 and day;2250

4 Greatly1971 desiring1971 to see1492 you, being mindful3403 of your tears,1144 that I may be filled4137 with joy;5479

5 When I call2983 to remembrance5280 the unfeigned505 faith4102 that is in you, which3748 dwelled1774 first4412 in your grandmother3125 Lois,3090 and your mother3384 Eunice;2131 and I am persuaded3982 that in you also.2532

6 Why1223 3739 I put363 you in remembrance363 that you stir329 up the gift5486 of God,2316 which3739 is in you by the putting1936 on1936 of my hands.5495

7 For God2316 has not given1325 us the spirit4151 of fear;1167 but of power,1411 and of love,26 and of a sound4995 mind.4995

8 Be not you therefore3767 ashamed1870 of the testimony3142 of our Lord,2962 nor3366 of me his prisoner:1198 but be you partaker4777 of the afflictions4777 of the gospel2098 according2596 to the power1411 of God;2316

9 Who3588 has saved4982 us, and called2564 us with an holy40 calling,2821 not according2596 to our works,2041 but according2596 to his own2398 purpose4286 and grace,5485 which3588 was given1325 us in Christ5547 Jesus2424 before4253 the world166 began,

10 But is now3568 made5319 manifest5319 by the appearing2015 of our Savior4990 Jesus2424 Christ,5547 who has abolished2673 death,2288 and has brought5461 life2222 and immortality861 to light5461 through1223 the gospel:2098

11 Whereunto1519 3739 I am appointed5087 a preacher,2783 and an apostle,652 and a teacher1320 of the Gentiles.1484

12 For the which3739 cause156 I also2532 suffer3958 these5023 things: nevertheless235 I am not ashamed:1870 for I know1492 whom3739 I have believed,4100 and am persuaded3982 that he is able1415 to keep5442 that which I have committed3866 to him against1519 that day.2250

13 Hold2192 fast the form5296 of sound5198 words,3056 which3739 you have heard191 of me, in faith4102 and love26 which3588 is in Christ5547 Jesus.2424

14 That good2570 thing which was committed3872 to you keep5442 by the Holy40 Ghost4151 which3588 dwells1774 in us.

15 This5124 you know,1492 that all3956 they which are in Asia773 be turned654 away654 from me; of whom3739 are Phygellus5436 and Hermogenes.2061

16 The Lord2962 give1325 mercy1656 to the house3624 of Onesiphorus;3683 for he oft4178 refreshed404 me, and was not ashamed1870 of my chain:254

17 But, when he was in Rome,4516 he sought2212 me out very4708 diligently,4706 and found2147 me.

18 The Lord2962 grant1325 to him that he may find2147 mercy1656 of the Lord2962 in that day:2250 and in how3745 many3745 things he ministered1247 to me at1722 Ephesus,2181 you know1097 very957 well.957

Chapter 1

1 PAUL, an apostle of Jesus Christ by the will of God and by the promise of life which is in Jesus Christ,

2 To Ti-mo'the-us, a dearly beloved son: Grace, mercy, and peace, from God the Father and Jesus Christ our LORD.

3 I thank God, whom I have served from boyhood with a pure conscience, that I have always remembered you in my prayers night and day.

4 I am anxious to see you; I still remember your tears; I am filled with joy,

5 Especially when I am reminded of your true faith, which dwelt first in your grandmother Lois, and your mother Eunice; and I am sure now in you also.

6 For this reason, I remind you to stir up the gift of God, which is in you by the laying on of my hand.

7 For God has not given us the spirit of fear but of power and of love and of good discipline.

8 Be not, therefore, ashamed of the testimony of our LORD, nor of me his prisoner; but bear the hardships that go along with the preaching of the gospel through the power of God;

9 Who has saved us, and called us with a holy calling, not according to our works, but according to his own will and his grace, which was given us in Jesus Christ before the world began,

10 And is now made manifest by the appearing of our Saviour Jesus Christ, who has abolished death, and has revealed life and immortality through the gospel;

11 To which I am appointed a preacher, and an apostle, and a teacher of the Gentiles.

12 For this cause I suffer these things: nevertheless I am not ashamed; for I know whom I have trusted, and I am sure he will take care of me until that day.

13 Let these bright and sound words which you have heard from me abide with you in the faith and love which is in Jesus Christ.

14 That good thing which was committed to you keep by the help of the Holy Spirit which dwells in us.

15 This you know: that all those in Asia Minor have turned away from me; of whom are Phy-gel'lus and Her-mog'e-nes.

16 Let our LORD grant mercy to the house of On-e-siph'o-rus; for he has often refreshed me, and he was not ashamed of the chains of my imprisonment:

17 But when he was in Rome, he searched for me diligently, and found me.

18 Let our LORD grant to him, that he may find mercy in heaven, where our LORD is, in that day: and of how he ministered to me at Eph'e-sus, you know very well.
