Chapter 1

1 Paul,3972 a servant1401 of Jesus2424 Christ,5547 called2822 to be an apostle,652 separated873 to the gospel2098 of God,2316

2 (Which3739 he had promised4279 before4279 by his prophets4396 in the holy40 scriptures,1124)

3 Concerning4012 his Son5207 Jesus2424 Christ5547 our Lord,2962 which3588 was made1096 of the seed4690 of David1138 according2596 to the flesh;4561

4 And declared3724 to be the Son5207 of God2316 with power,1411 according2596 to the spirit4151 of holiness,42 by the resurrection386 from the dead:3498

5 By whom3739 we have received2983 grace5485 and apostleship,651 for obedience5218 to the faith4102 among1722 all3956 nations,1484 for his name:3686

6 Among1722 whom3739 are you also2532 the called2822 of Jesus2424 Christ:5547

7 To all3956 that be in Rome,4516 beloved27 of God,2316 called2822 to be saints:40 Grace5485 to you and peace1515 from God2316 our Father,3962 and the Lord2962 Jesus2424 Christ.5547

8 First,4412 I thank2168 my God2316 through1223 Jesus2424 Christ5547 for you all,3956 that your5216 faith4102 is spoken2605 of throughout1722 the whole3650 world.2889

9 For God2316 is my witness,3144 whom3739 I serve3000 with my spirit4151 in the gospel2098 of his Son,5207 that without89 ceasing89 I make4160 mention3417 of you always3842 in my prayers;4335

10 Making1189 request,1189 if1513 by any4458 means4458 now2235 at4218 length4218 I might have a prosperous2137 journey2137 by the will2307 of God2316 to come2064 to you.

11 For I long1971 to see1492 you, that I may impart3330 to you some5100 spiritual4152 gift,5486 to the end1519 you may be established;4741

12 That is, that I may be comforted4837 together4837 with you by the mutual1722 240 faith4102 both5037 of you and me.

13 Now1161 I would2309 not have you ignorant,50 brothers,80 that oftentimes4178 I purposed4388 to come2064 to you, (but was let2967 till now,891 1204) that I might hav2192e som5100e frui2590t amon1722g you also,2532 eve2532n as amon1722g othe3062r Gentiles.1484

14 I am1510 debtor3781 both5037 to the Greeks,1672 and to the Barbarians;915 both5037 to the wise,4680 and to the unwise.453

15 So,3779 as much2596 as in me is, I am ready4289 to preach2097 the gospel2097 to you that are at1722 Rome4516 also.2532

16 For I am not ashamed1870 of the gospel2098 of Christ:5547 for it is the power1411 of God2316 to salvation4991 to every3956 one that believes;4100 to the Jew2453 first,4412 and also2532 to the Greek.1672

17 For therein1722 846 is the righteousness1343 of God2316 revealed601 from faith4102 to faith:4102 as it is written,1125 The just1342 shall live2198 by faith.4102

18 For the wrath3709 of God2316 is revealed601 from heaven3772 against1909 all3956 ungodliness763 and unrighteousness93 of men,444 who3588 hold2722 the truth225 in unrighteousness;93

19 Because1360 that which may be known1110 of God2316 is manifest5319 in them; for God2316 has showed5319 it to them.

20 For the invisible517 things of him from the creation2937 of the world2889 are clearly2529 seen,2529 being understood3539 by the things that are made,4161 even his eternal126 power1411 and Godhead;2305 so1519 that they are without379 excuse:379

21 Because1360 that, when they knew1097 God,2316 they glorified1392 him not as God,2316 neither2228 were thankful;2168 but became3154 vain3154 in their imaginations,1261 and their foolish801 heart2588 was darkened.4654

22 Professing5335 themselves to be wise,4680 they became3471 fools,3471

23 And changed236 the glory1391 of the incorruptible862 God2316 into1722 an image1504 made4161 like3667 to corruptible5349 man,444 and to birds,4071 and four footed5074 beasts,5074 and creeping2062 things.

24 Why1352 God2316 also2532 gave3860 them up to uncleanness167 through1722 the lusts1939 of their own hearts,2588 to dishonor818 their own bodies4983 between1722 themselves:1438

25 Who3748 changed3337 the truth225 of God2316 into1722 a lie,5579 and worshipped4573 and served3000 the creature2937 more3844 than3844 the Creator,2936 who3739 is blessed2128 for ever.165 Amen.281

26 For this5124 cause1223 God2316 gave3860 them up to vile819 affections:3806 for even5037 their women2338 did change3337 the natural5446 use5540 into1519 that which is against3844 nature:5449

27 And likewise3668 also2532 the men,730 leaving863 the natural5446 use5540 of the woman,2338 burned1572 in their lust3715 one240 toward1519 another;240 men730 with men730 working2716 that which is unseemly,808 and receiving618 in themselves1438 that recompense489 of their error4106 which3739 was meet.1163

28 And even2531 as they did not like1381 to retain2192 God2316 in their knowledge,1922 God2316 gave3860 them over3860 to a reprobate96 mind,3563 to do4160 those3588 things which are not convenient;2520

29 Being filled4137 with all3956 unrighteousness,93 fornication,4202 wickedness,4189 covetousness,4124 maliciousness;2549 full3324 of envy,5355 murder,5408 debate,2054 deceit,1388 malignity;2550 whisperers,5588

30 Backbiters,2637 haters2319 of God,2319 despiteful,5197 proud,5244 boasters,213 inventors2182 of evil2556 things, disobedient545 to parents,1118

31 Without801 understanding,801 covenant breakers,802 without794 natural affection,794 implacable,786 unmerciful:415

32 Who3748 knowing1921 the judgment1345 of God,2316 that they which commit4238 such5108 things are worthy514 of death,2288 not only3440 do the same,846 but have2192 pleasure4909 in them that do4238 them.

Chapter 1

1 PAUL, a servant of Jesus Christ, called to be an apostle, and chosen to proclaim the gospel of God

2 Which was promised from early days by his prophets in the holy scriptures,

3 Concerning his son who was born in the flesh of the seed of the house of David,

4 And who came to be known as the Son of God with power and with the Holy Spirit, because he arose from the dead, and he is Jesus Christ our LORD,

5 And by him we have received grace and apostleship among all the Gentiles, so that they may hear the faith which is under his name,

6 And in which you also are of them, and are called by Jesus Christ;

7 To all who are in Rome, beloved of God, called and sanctified: Grace and peace be unto you from God our Father, and from our LORD Jesus Christ.

8 First, I thank my God through Jesus Christ for you all, that your faith has been heard of throughout the world.

9 For God, whom I serve in spirit in the gospel of his Son, is my witness that unceasingly I make mention of you in my prayers;

10 Beseeching that, if the way is open to me by the will of God, I may come to you.

11 For I long to see you, and to impart to you the gift of the Spirit, in order that you may be strengthened by it,

12 And that we may be comforted together by our mutual faith.

13 Now I want you to know, my brethren, that often I have wanted to come to you, but I have been prevented thus far, that I might have some fruit among you also, even as among other Gentiles,

14 Greeks and Barbarians, the wise and the unwise; for it is my duty to preach to everybody.

15 So I am eager to preach the gospel to you who are in Rome also.

16 For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one who believes; whether they are Jews first, or Arameans (Syrians). *

17 For therein is the righteousness of God revealed from faith to faith: as it is written, The righteous shall live by faith.

18 For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all the iniquity and wickedness of men who unjustly suppress the truth;

19 Because that which may be known of God is manifested to them for God has revealed it unto them.

20 For, from the very creation of the world, the invisible things of God have been clearly seen and understood by his creations, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse.

21 For they knew God and did not glorify him and give thanks to him as God, but became vain in their imaginations, and their hearts were darkened so that they could not understand.

22 And while they thought within themselves that they were wise, they became fools,

23 And they have changed the glory of the uncorruptible God for an image made in the likeness of corruptible man, and in the likeness of birds, and of four-footed beasts, and of creeping things on the earth.

24 That is why God also gave them up to uncleanness through the lusts of their hearts, to dishonor their own bodies between themselves:

25 And they have changed the truth of God for lies, and worshipped and served the created things more than their Creator to whom belong glory and blessings for ever. Amen.

26 Therefore God has given them up to vile passions: for even their women have changed the natural use of their sex into that which is unnatural:

27 And likewise also their men have left the natural use of the women and have run wild with lust toward one another, male with male committing shameful acts, and receiving in themselves the due recompense of their error.

28 And as they did not consent in themselves to know God, God has given them over to a weak mind, to do the things which should not be done; as,

29 Being filled with all manner of iniquity, fornication, bitterness, malice, extortion, envy, murder, strife, deceit, evil thoughts,

30 Slanderers, backbiters, haters of God, revilers, proud boasters, inventors of evil things, the weak-minded, disobedient to their parents;

31 These have no respect for a covenant. They know neither love nor peace, nor is there mercy in them;

32 Knowing the judgment of God, that those who commit such things, he condemns to death, they not only do them, but also associate with those who practice them.
