2 Samuel

Chapter 13

1 AND it came to pass after this, that Absalom the son of David had a sister whose name was Tamar; and Amnon the son of David loved her.

2 And Amnon was much grieved on account of his sister Tamar; for she was a virgin; and Amnon felt unable to say anything to her.

3 But Amnon had a friend whose name was Jonadab, the son of Shimeah David's brother; and Jonadab was a very wise man.

4 And he said to Amnon, O son of the king why are you so losing weight from day to day? Will you not tell me? And Amnon said to him, I love Tamar, my brother Absalom's sister.

5 And Jonadab said to him, Lie down on your bed and pretend that you are sick; and when your father comes to see you, say to him, Let my sister Tamar come and give me food to eat and make me a couple of cakes in my sight, that I may see it and eat it from her hand.

6 So Amnon lay down and pretended to be sick; and when the king came to see him, Amnon said to the king, Let Tamar my sister come and make me a couple of cakes in my sight that I may eat from her hand.

7 Then David sent for Tamar, and said to her, Go now to your brother Amnon's house and prepare food for him.

8 So Tamar went to her brother Amnon's house; and he was lying down. And she took dough and kneaded it and baked cakes.

9 And she took the cakes and placed them before him; but he refused to eat. And Amnon said, Let every one go out from the house. And they went out every man from the house.

10 And Amnon said to Tamar, Bring the food into the chamber that I may eat from your hands. And Tamar took the cakes which she had made and brought them into the chamber to Amnon her brother.

11 And when she had brought them to him to eat, he took hold of her and said to her, Come lie with me, my sister.

12 And she answered him, No, my brother, do not treat me shamefully; for no such folly ought to be done in Israel;

13 And as for me, where shall I carry my shame? And as for you, you would be reckoned as one of the fools in Israel. Now therefore, speak to the king; for he will not withhold me from you.

14 But he would not listen to her; but, being stronger than she, he forced her and lay with her and disgraced her.

15 Then Amnon hated her exceedingly; so that the hatred with which he hated her was greater than the love with which he had loved her. And Amnon said to her, Arise, be gone.

16 And she said to him, So now, since you have done this great evil to me, you send me away? But he would not listen to her.

17 Then he called his servant who ministered to him, and said to him, Put now this woman out of my house, and bolt the door after her.

18 And Tamar took ashes and put them on her head,

19 And she tore the embroidered garment which she wore; then she laid her hands on her head, and went away crying mournfully.

20 And Absalom her brother said to her, Has Amnon your brother lain with you? But hold now your peace, my sister; he is your brother; do not take this deed to your heart. So Tamar remained horrified in the house of Absalom her brother.

21 But when King David heard all these things, he was exceedingly displeased.

22 And Absalom spoke to his brother Amnon neither good nor bad; for Absalom hated Amnon because he had forced his sister Tamar.

23 Now from season to season, Absalom had sheepshearers in Baal-hazor, which is near Ephraim; and Absalom invited all the king's sons.

24 And Absalom came to the king and said to him, Behold now your servant has sheepshearers; let the king and his servants go with your servant.

25 And the king said to him, No, my son, let us not all now go lest we be burdensome to you. And he pressed him, but he would not go with him, but he blessed him.

26 Then said Absalom, Why should not my brother Amnon go with me? The king said to him, Why should he go with you?

27 But Absalom pressed him that he should let Amnon and all the king's sons go with him.

28 Then Absalom commanded his servants, saying, Mark when Amnon's heart is merry with wine, and when I say to you, Smite Amnon and kill him, fear not; have I not commanded you? Be courageous and be valiant.

29 So the servants of Absalom did to Amnon as Absalom had commanded them. Then all the king's sons arose, and every man mounted his mule and fled.

30 And while they were on the way, the news came to David that Absalom had murdered all the king's sons and there was not one of them left.

31 Then the king arose and tore his garments and lay on the earth; and all his servants stood by with their clothes rent.

32 And Jonadab, the son of Shimeah David's brother, said to him, Let not my lord the king think that all the king's sons are dead; for Amnon alone is dead: for Absalom had been determined to do this from the day that Amnon forced his sister Tamar.

33 Now therefore let not my lord the king think that all the king's sons are dead; for Amnon alone is dead.

34 But Absalom fled. And the watchman lifted up his eyes and looked, and behold, many people were coming by the way on the side of the mountain.

35 And Jonadab said to the king, Behold, the king's sons come; as your servant said, so it is.

36 And as soon as he had finished speaking, behold, the king's sons came and lifted up their voices and wept; and the king and all his servants also wept bitterly.

37 But Absalom fled, and went to Talmai. the son of Ammihud, the king of Geshur. And David mourned for his son many days.

38 So Absalom fled and went to Geshur, and was there three years.

39 And King David longed to go forth after Absalom; for he was comforted concerning Amnon, seeing he was dead.

4 他問暗嫩說：「你既是王的兒子［thou, being the king's son］，為何一天比一天瘦弱呢？你不告訴我麼［wilt thou not tell me］？」暗嫩回答他［him］說：「我愛我兄弟押沙龍的妹子她瑪。」

5 約拿達說：「你不如躺在床上裝病；你父親來看你，就對他說：『求父叫我妹子她瑪來，在我眼前預備食物，遞給我吃，使我看見，好從她手裏接過來吃。』」

6 於是暗嫩躺臥裝病。王來看他，他對王說：「求父叫我妹子她瑪來，在我眼前為我作兩個餅，我好從她手裏接過來吃。」

7 大衛就打發人到宮裏，對她瑪說：「你往你哥哥暗嫩的屋裏去，為他預備食物。」

8 她瑪就到她哥哥暗嫩的屋裏；暗嫩正躺臥。她瑪摶麵，在他眼前作餅，且烤熟了，

9 在他面前將餅從鏊［pan］裏倒出來；他卻不肯吃。喑嫩［Amnon］便說：「眾人離開我出去吧。」眾人就都離開他，出去了。

10 暗嫩對她瑪說：「你把食物拿進臥房，我好從你手裏接過來吃。」她瑪就把所作的餅拿進臥房，到她哥哥暗嫩那裏，

11 拿著餅上前給他吃，他便拉住她瑪，說：「我妹妹，你來與我同寢。」

12 她瑪回答他［answered him］說：「我哥哥，不要玷辱我；在以色列［in Israel］中不當這樣行。你不要作這醜事。

13 你玷辱了我，我何以掩蓋我的羞恥呢？你在以色列中也成了愚妄人。你可以求王，他必不禁止我歸你。」

14 但暗嫩不肯聽她的話，因比她力大，就玷辱她，與她同寢。

15 隨後，暗嫩極其恨她，那恨她的心比先前愛她的心更甚，對她說：「你起來，去吧。」

16 她瑪說：「不要這樣。你趕出我去的這罪比你才行的更重。」但暗嫩不肯聽她的話，

17 就叫伺候自己的僕人來，說：「將這個女子趕出去。她一出去，你就關門，上閂。」

18 那時她瑪穿著彩衣，因為處女［virgins］的公主都是這樣穿。暗嫩的僕人就把她趕出去，關門上閂。

19 她瑪把灰塵撒在頭上，撕裂所穿的彩衣，以手抱頭，一面行走，一面哭喊。

20 她胞兄押沙龍對［said unto］她說：「莫非妳哥哥暗嫩與妳親近了嗎？我妹妹，妳［thy］暫且不要作聲。他是妳的哥哥；不要將這事放在心上。」她瑪就孤孤單單地住在她胞兄押沙龍家裏。

21 大衛王聽見這些事［these things］，就甚發怒。

22 押沙龍並不和他哥哥暗嫩說好說歹；因為暗嫩玷辱他妹妹她瑪，所以押沙龍恨惡他。

23 過了二年，在靠近以法蓮的巴力夏瑣有人為押沙龍剪羊毛；押沙龍請王的眾子與他同去。

24 押沙龍來見王，說：「請看［Behold］，現在有人為僕人剪羊毛，請王和王的臣僕與你［thy］僕人同去。」

25 王對押沙龍說：「我兒，我們不必都去，恐怕使你耗費太多。」押沙龍再三請王，王仍是不肯去，只為他祝福。

26 押沙龍說：「王若不去，求王許我哥哥暗嫩同去。」王說：「何必要他去呢？」

27 押沙龍再三求王，王就許暗嫩和王的眾子與他同去。

28 押沙龍吩咐僕人說：「你們注意，看暗嫩飲酒暢快的時候，我對你們說殺暗嫩，你們便殺他，不要懼怕。這不是我吩咐你們的嗎？你們只管壯膽奮勇。」

29 押沙龍的僕人就照押沙龍所吩咐的，向暗嫩行了。王的眾子都起來，各人騎上騾子，逃跑了。

30 他們還在路上，有風聲傳到大衛那裏，說：「押沙龍將王的眾子都殺了，沒有留下一個。」

31 王就起來，撕裂衣服，躺在地上。王的臣僕也都撕裂衣服，站在旁邊。

32 大衛的長兄，示米亞的兒子約拿達說：「我主，不要以為王的眾子─少年人都殺了，只有暗嫩一個人死了。自從暗嫩玷辱押沙龍妹子她瑪的那日，押沙龍就定意殺暗嫩了。

33 現在，我主我王，不要把這事放在心上，以為王的眾子都死了，只有暗嫩一個人死了。」

34 押沙龍逃跑了。守望的少年人舉目觀看，見有許多人從山坡的路上來。

35 約拿達對王說：「看哪，王的眾子都來了，果然與你僕人所說的相合。」

36 話才說完，恰巧［behold］王的眾子都到了，放聲大哭；王和臣僕也都哭得甚慟。

37 押沙龍逃到基述王亞米忽的兒子達買那裏去了。大衛天天為他兒子悲哀。

38 押沙龍逃到基述，在那裏住了三年。

39 暗嫩死了以後，大衛王得了安慰，心裏切切想念押沙龍。

6 So Amnon lay down and pretended to be sick; and when the king came to see him, Amnon said to the king, Let Tamar my sister come and make me a couple of cakes in my sight that I may eat from her hand.

6 於是暗嫩躺臥裝病。王來看他，他對王說：「求父叫我妹子她瑪來，在我眼前為我作兩個餅，我好從她手裏接過來吃。」

7 Then David sent for Tamar, and said to her, Go now to your brother Amnon's house and prepare food for him.

8 So Tamar went to her brother Amnon's house; and he was lying down. And she took dough and kneaded it and baked cakes.

11 And when she had brought them to him to eat, he took hold of her and said to her, Come lie with me, my sister.

21 But when King David heard all these things, he was exceedingly displeased.

22 And Absalom spoke to his brother Amnon neither good nor bad; for Absalom hated Amnon because he had forced his sister Tamar.

22 押沙龍並不和他哥哥暗嫩說好說歹；因為暗嫩玷辱他妹妹她瑪，所以押沙龍恨惡他。

23 Now from season to season, Absalom had sheepshearers in Baal-hazor, which is near Ephraim; and Absalom invited all the king's sons.

29 So the servants of Absalom did to Amnon as Absalom had commanded them. Then all the king's sons arose, and every man mounted his mule and fled.

30 And while they were on the way, the news came to David that Absalom had murdered all the king's sons and there was not one of them left.

32 大衛的長兄，示米亞的兒子約拿達說：「我主，不要以為王的眾子─少年人都殺了，只有暗嫩一個人死了。自從暗嫩玷辱押沙龍妹子她瑪的那日，押沙龍就定意殺暗嫩了。

33 Now therefore let not my lord the king think that all the king's sons are dead; for Amnon alone is dead.

34 But Absalom fled. And the watchman lifted up his eyes and looked, and behold, many people were coming by the way on the side of the mountain.

35 And Jonadab said to the king, Behold, the king's sons come; as your servant said, so it is.

36 And as soon as he had finished speaking, behold, the king's sons came and lifted up their voices and wept; and the king and all his servants also wept bitterly.

37 But Absalom fled, and went to Talmai. the son of Ammihud, the king of Geshur. And David mourned for his son many days.

38 So Absalom fled and went to Geshur, and was there three years.
