John

Chapter 1

1 THE Word was in the beginning, and that very Word was with God, and God was that Word.

2 The same was in the beginning with God.

3 Everything came to be by his hand; and without him not even one thing came to be of what was created.

4 The life was in him, and the life is the light of men.

5 And the same light shines in the darkness, and the darkness does not overcome it.

6 There was a man, sent from God, whose name was John.

7 He came as a witness to testify concerning the light, so that every man might believe by means of him.

8 He was not the light, but to testify concerning the light.

9 He was the true light, which lighteth every man who came into the world.

10 He was in the world, and the world was under his hand, and yet the world knew him not.

11 He came to his own, and his own did not receive him.

12 But those who received him, to them he gave power to become sons of God, especially to those who believed in his name;

13 Those who are not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but born of God.

14 And the Word became flesh, and dwelt among us, and we saw his glory, a glory like that of the firstborn of the Father, full of grace and truth.

15 John witnessed concerning him and cried and said, This is the one of whom I said, He is coming after me, and yet he is ahead of me, because he was before me.

16 And of his fulness we have all received, grace for grace.

17 For the law was given by Moses; but truth and grace came into being by Jesus Christ.

18 No man has ever seen God; but the firstborn of God, who is in the bosom of his Father, he has declared him.

19 This is the testimony of John, when the Jews sent to him priests and Levites from Jerusalem to ask him, Who are you?

20 And he confessed and did not deny it; but he declared, I am not the Christ.

21 Then they asked him again, What then? Are you Elijah? And he said, I am not. Are you a prophet? And he said, No.

22 Then they said to him, Who are you? so that we may give an answer to those who sent us. What do you say concerning yourself?

23 He said, I am the voice of one crying in the wilderness, Straighten the highway of the Lord, as the prophet Isaiah said.

24 Those who were sent were from the Pharisees.

25 And they asked him and said to him, Why then do you baptize, if you are not the Christ, nor Elijah, nor a prophet?

26 John answered and said to them, I baptize with water; but among you stands one whom you do not know;

27 This is the one who comes after me, and is ahead of me, the one even the strings of whose shoes I am not good enough to untie.

28 These things happened in Bethany, at the Jordan crossing, where John was baptizing.

29 The next day John saw Jesus coming to him, and he said, Behold the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world!

30 This is the one of whom I said, The man who comes after me is yet ahead of me, because he was before me.

31 And I did not know him; but that he might be made known to Israel, I came to baptize with water.

32 And John testified and said, I saw the Spirit descending from heaven like a dove, and it rested upon him.

33 And yet I did not know him; but he who sent me to baptize with water, said to me, The one upon whom you see the Spirit descending and resting, he is the one who will baptize with the Holy Spirit.

34 And I saw and testified that this is the Son of God.

35 The next day John was standing, with two of his disciples;

36 And he looked at Jesus while he walked, and said, Behold, the Lamb of God!

37 And when he said it, two of his disciples heard it; and they went after Jesus.

38 And Jesus turned around and saw them following him, and he said to them, What do you want? They said to him, Rabbi (Teacher), where do you live?

39 He said to them, Come, and you will see. And they came and saw where he stayed, and they remained with him that day; and it was about the tenth hour.

40 One of them who heard John and followed Jesus, was Andrew, the brother of Simon.

41 He saw his brother Simon first, and said to him, We have found the Christ.

42 And he brought him to Jesus. And Jesus looked at him and said, You are Simon the son of Jonah; you are called Kepa (a Stone).

43 The next day Jesus wanted to leave for Galilee, and he found Philip, and said to him, Follow me.

44 Now Philip was from Bethsaida, the city of Andrew and Simon.

45 Philip found Nathanael, and said to him, We have found that Jesus, the son of Joseph, of Nazareth, is the one concerning whom Moses wrote in the law and the prophets.

46 Nathanael said to him, Can anything good come out of Nazareth? Philip said to him, Come and you will see.

47 Jesus saw Nathanael coming to him and he said of him, Behold truly an Israelite, in whom there is no guile!

48 Nathanael said to him, Whence do you know me? Jesus said to him. Even before Philip called you, while you were under the fig tree, I saw you.

49 Nathanael answered, saying to him, Rabbi, you are the Son of God, you are the King of Israel.

50 Jesus said to him, Do you believe because I told you I saw you under the fig tree? you shall see greater things than these.

51 He said to him, Truly, truly, I say to all of you, that from now on you will see the heaven opened, and the angels of God ascending and descending to the Son of man.

1 太初有道，道與神同在，道就是神。

2 這道太初與神同在。

3 凡物［All things］是靠［by］他造的；凡被造的，沒有一樣不是靠［by］他造的。

4 生命在他裏頭；這生命就是人的光。

5 光照在黑暗裏；黑暗卻不認識［comprehended］光。

6 有一個人，是從神那裏差來的，名叫約翰。

7 這人來，為要作見證，就是為光作見證，叫眾人因他可以信。

8 他不是那光，乃是奉差遣［was sent］，要為那［that］光作見證。

9 那［That］是真光，照亮一切生在世上的人。

10 他在世界，世界也是靠［by］他造的，世界卻不認識他。

11 他到自己的地方來，自己的人倒不接待他。

12 然而［But］，凡接待他的，就是信他名的人，他就賜他們權柄，作神的兒子［sons］；

13 這等人不是從血氣生的，不是從情欲生的，也不是從人意生的，乃是從神生的。

14 道成了肉身，住在我們中間，（我們也見過他的榮光，正是父獨生子的榮光［the only begotten of the Father］，）充充滿滿的有恩典有真理［full of grace and truth］。

15 約翰為他作見證，喊著說：「這就是我曾說：『那在我以後來的，乃是比我更好的［is preferred before me］，因他本來在我以前。』」

16 從他豐滿的恩典裏，我們都領受了，而且恩上加恩。

17 律法本是藉著摩西傳的，恩典和真理卻［but］是由耶穌基督來的。

18 從來沒有人看見神；只有在父懷裏的獨生子［the only begotten Son］將他表明出來。

19 約翰所作的見證記在下面，那時［when］猶太人從耶路撒冷差祭司和利未人來問他［ask him］，說：「你是誰？」

20 他就承認［confessed］，並不隱瞞；卻承認說［but confessed］：「我不是基督。」

21 他們又問他說：「這樣，你是誰呢？是以利亞嗎？」他說：「我不是。」「你［thou］是那先知嗎？」他回答說：「不是。」

22 於是他們對他［unto him］說：「你到底是誰？叫我們好回覆差我們來的人。你自己說，你是誰？」

23 他說：「我就是那在曠野有人聲喊著說：『修直主的道路。』正如先知以賽亞所說的。

24 那些人是法利賽人差來的［And they which were sent were of the Pharisees］。

25 他們就問他，對他［unto him］說：「你既不是那［that］基督，不是以利亞，也不是那先知，為甚麼施浸呢？」

26 約翰回答他們［them］說：「我是用水施浸。但有一個站在你們中間，是你們不認識的；

27 那正［coming］在我以後來的，乃是比我更好的［is preferred before me］，我給他解鞋帶也不配。」

28 這是在約旦河外伯大巴喇［Bethabara］，約翰施浸的地方所作的［done］見證。

29 次日，約翰看見耶穌來到他那裏，就說：「看哪，神的羔羊，除去［taketh away］世人罪孽的。

30 這就是我曾說：『有一個在我以後來、比我更好的［is preferred before me］；因他本來在我以前。』

31 我不認識他［I knew him not］；但［but］為要叫他顯明給以色列［Israel］，我就來用水施浸［therefore am I come baptizing with water］。」

32 約翰又作見證說：「我看見靈從天降下彷彿鴿子［saw the Spirit descending from heaven like a dove］，住在他的身上。

33 我不認識他［I knew him not］；只是那差我來用水施浸的、對我說：『你看見靈［Spirit］降下來，住在誰的身上，誰就是用聖靈施浸的。』

34 我看見了，就證明這是神的兒子。」

35 再次日，約翰同他［his］兩個門徒站在那裏；

36 看著［looking upon］耶穌行走，他［he］說：「看哪。這是神的羔羊。」

37 兩個門徒聽見他的話，就跟從了耶穌。

38 那時［Then］，耶穌轉過身來，看見他們跟著，就對［unto］他們說：「你們要甚麼？」他們對耶穌［unto him］說：「拉比，在哪裏住？（拉比翻出來就是夫子。）」

39 耶穌對他們［unto them］說：「你們來看。」他們就去看他在那裏住，那天［that day］便與他同住；因［for］那時約有申正了。

40 聽見約翰的話跟從耶穌的那兩個人，一個是西門．彼得的兄弟安得烈。

41 他先找著自己的兄弟［brother］西門，對他說：「我們遇見彌賽亞了。」彌賽亞翻出來［which is, being interpreted］，就是基督。

42 他便［And he］領他去見耶穌。耶穌看著他說：「你是約拿的兒子西門；你要稱為磯法。」磯法翻出來，就是石頭［stone］。

43 又次日，耶穌想要往加利利去，遇見腓力，就對他說：「來跟從我吧。」

44 這腓力是伯賽大人，和安得烈、彼得同城。

45 腓力找著拿但業，對他說：「摩西在律法上所寫的和眾先知所記的那一個，我們遇見了，就是約瑟的兒子拿撒勒的［of Nazareth］耶穌。」

46 拿但業對他說：「拿撒勒還能出甚麼好的嗎？」腓力對他［unto him］說：「你來看。」

47 耶穌看見拿但業來，就指著他說：「看哪，這是個真以色列人，他心裏是沒有詭詐的。」

48 拿但業對耶穌說：「你從哪裏知道我呢？」耶穌回答他［him］說：「那［that］腓力還沒有呼喚［called］你，你在無花果樹底下，我就看見你了。」

49 拿但業回答［answered］對他［unto him］說：「拉比，你是神的兒子；你是以色列的王。」

50 耶穌回答［answered］對他說：「因為我對你［unto thee］說『在無花果樹底下看見你』，你就信嗎？你將要看見比這些［these］更大的事。」

51 耶穌［he］又對他［unto him］說：「我實實在在地告訴你們：『後來［hereafter］你們將要看見天開［open］，神的天使［angels］上去下來在人子身上。』」

John Chapter 1	約翰福音第1章
1 THE Word was in the beginning, and that very Word was with God, and God was that Word.	1 太初有道，道與神同在，道就是神。
2 The same was in the beginning with God.	2 這道太初與神同在。
3 Everything came to be by his hand; and without him not even one thing came to be of what was created.	3 凡物［All things］是靠［by］他造的；凡被造的，沒有一樣不是靠［by］他造的。
4 The life was in him, and the life is the light of men.	4 生命在他裏頭；這生命就是人的光。

12 But those who received him, to them he gave power to become sons of God, especially to those who believed in his name;	12 然而［But］，凡接待他的，就是信他名的人，他就賜他們權柄，作神的兒子［sons］；
13 Those who are not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but born of God.	13 這等人不是從血氣生的，不是從情欲生的，也不是從人意生的，乃是從神生的。

15 John witnessed concerning him and cried and said, This is the one of whom I said, He is coming after me, and yet he is ahead of me, because he was before me.	15 約翰為他作見證，喊著說：「這就是我曾說：『那在我以後來的，乃是比我更好的［is preferred before me］，因他本來在我以前。』」

37 And when he said it, two of his disciples heard it; and they went after Jesus.	37 兩個門徒聽見他的話，就跟從了耶穌。
38 And Jesus turned around and saw them following him, and he said to them, What do you want? They said to him, Rabbi (Teacher), where do you live?	38 那時［Then］，耶穌轉過身來，看見他們跟著，就對［unto］他們說：「你們要甚麼？」他們對耶穌［unto him］說：「拉比，在哪裏住？（拉比翻出來就是夫子。）」

45 Philip found Nathanael, and said to him, We have found that Jesus, the son of Joseph, of Nazareth, is the one concerning whom Moses wrote in the law and the prophets.	45 腓力找著拿但業，對他說：「摩西在律法上所寫的和眾先知所記的那一個，我們遇見了，就是約瑟的兒子拿撒勒的［of Nazareth］耶穌。」
46 Nathanael said to him, Can anything good come out of Nazareth? Philip said to him, Come and you will see.	46 拿但業對他說：「拿撒勒還能出甚麼好的嗎？」腓力對他［unto him］說：「你來看。」
47 Jesus saw Nathanael coming to him and he said of him, Behold truly an Israelite, in whom there is no guile!	47 耶穌看見拿但業來，就指著他說：「看哪，這是個真以色列人，他心裏是沒有詭詐的。」
48 Nathanael said to him, Whence do you know me? Jesus said to him. Even before Philip called you, while you were under the fig tree, I saw you.	48 拿但業對耶穌說：「你從哪裏知道我呢？」耶穌回答他［him］說：「那［that］腓力還沒有呼喚［called］你，你在無花果樹底下，我就看見你了。」
49 Nathanael answered, saying to him, Rabbi, you are the Son of God, you are the King of Israel.	49 拿但業回答［answered］對他［unto him］說：「拉比，你是神的兒子；你是以色列的王。」
50 Jesus said to him, Do you believe because I told you I saw you under the fig tree? you shall see greater things than these.	50 耶穌回答［answered］對他說：「因為我對你［unto thee］說『在無花果樹底下看見你』，你就信嗎？你將要看見比這些［these］更大的事。」
