Chapter 31

1 NOW when all this was finished, all Israel who were present went out to the cities of Judah, and broke the images in pieces and cut down the leopard statues and demolished the shrines and the altars that were in Judah and Benjamin and in Ephraim and Manasseh, until they had utterly destroyed them all. Then the Israelites returned, every man to his possession; and they entered in peace into their own cities.

2 And Hezekiah appointed the times of serving of the priests and the Levites according to their divisions, every man according to his service, the priests and the Levites for burnt offerings and for peace offerings, to minister and to give thanks and to praise in the gates of the temple of the LORD.

3 And the king gave of his own substance oxen for the morning and evening burnt offerings, and the burnt offerings for the sabbaths and for the new moons and for the set feasts, as it is written in the law of the LORD.

4 Moreover he commanded the people who dwelt in Jerusalem to give the portion due to the priests and the Levites, that they might be encouraged in the law of the LORD.

5 And as soon as the commandment was published in Israel, they brought the first fruits of grain, wine, oil, and of their cattle, and of the produce of the field; and the tithe of all things they brought in abundantly.

6 And the children of Israel and Judah who dwelt in the cities of Judah also brought in gifts and offered them to the LORD their God. And they brought in tithes upon tithes of grain, of wine, and of their cattle, and of the produce of the field. They brought the tithes and consecrated them to the LORD their God.

7 In the third month they began to lay the foundation of the tithe supplies, and in the seventh month Hezekiah took it and distributed it among the priests and the Levites.

8 And when Hezekiah and the princes saw that the tithe of the priests was so abundant, they blessed the LORD and prayed for Israel.

9 Then Hezekiah prayed for the priests and for the Levites concerning the abundance of the tithe.

10 And he called for Azariah the chief priest of the house of Zadok and said to him, This tithe is ready for you, to be eaten, because it has been brought into the house of the LORD, now you can eat and be filled, and what is left of it, give it to the poor and to the fatherless, for the LORD has blessed his people and has given them this abundance. And what is left, give it to all the people of Israel.

11 Then Hezekiah commanded that storehouses be prepared in the house of the LORD; and they prepared them,

12 And they brought in the tithes and the dedicated things faithfully; over them Cononiah the Levite was overseer and Shimei his brother was the next.

13 And Nehiel, Uzziah, Nahath, Ashail, Jerimoth, Jozabar, Eliel, Ismachiah, Matah, Benaiah, and Shemiah his brother were overseers under the hand of Cononiah, at the command of Hezekiah the king and Azariah the ruler of the house of the LORD.

14 And Kariah the son of Imnah the Levite, the porter of the east gate, was over the freewill offerings of the LORD and over the most holy things.

15 And next to him were Eden, Benjamin, Jeshua, Shemaiah, Amariah, and Shecaniah, in the cities of the priests, in their set office, to distribute portions to their brethren, to the great and small alike;

16 Besides that which is due to the males from three years old and upward, even to every one who entered into the house of the LORD, their daily portion for their service in their duties according to their divisions;

17 And oil and wine were given to the priests and the Levites according to the house of their fathers, from twenty years old and upward, in their charges by their divisions;

18 And oil was given for their lanterns, to their wives, their sons, and their daughters, and to all the congregation of Israel, for in their set office they sanctified themselves faithfully.

19 For the sons of Aaron the priest were holy, their flesh was holy, and they never touched women; and they went about in every village and suburb, men whose names were well known, to give portions to all the males among the priests and to all that were reckoned by the genealogies among the Levites.

20 And thus did Hezekiah throughout all Judah, and he did that which was good and right, and walked in truth before the LORD.

21 And in every work that he began to do in the house of the LORD, and in the law and in the commandments, to seek his God, he did it with all his heart and prospered.

3 Und der König4428 gab sein Teil4521 von seiner Habe7399 zu Brandopfern5930 des Morgens1242 und des Abends6153 und zu Brandopfern5930 des Sabbats7676 und Neumonden2320 und Festen4150, wie es5930 geschrieben3789 stehet im Gesetz8451 des HErrn3068.

4 Und er2388 sprach559 zum Volk5971, das zu Jerusalem3389 wohnete, daß sie3427 Teil4521 gäben den Priestern3548 und Leviten3881, auf daß sie5414 könnten desto härter anhalten am Gesetz8451 des HErrn3068.

5 Und da das Wort1697 auskam, gaben die Kinder1121 Israel3478 viel7235 Erstlinge7225 von Getreide1715, Most8492, Öl3323, Honig1706 und allerlei Einkommens8393 vom Felde7704; und allerlei Zehnten4643 brachten935 sie6555 viel7230 hinein935.

6 Und5414 die Kinder1121 Israel3478 und Juda3063, die in den Städten5892 Judas wohneten, brachten935 auch Zehnten4643 von Rindern1241 und Schafen6629 und Zehnten4643 von dem Geheiligten6944, das sie6942 dem HErrn3068, ihrem GOtt430, geheiliget hatten3427, und machten hie einen Haufen und da einen Haufen6194.

7 Im dritten7992 Monden2320 fingen sie an2490, Haufen6194 zu legen, und im siebenten7637 Monden2320 richteten sie es aus3615.

8 Und da Hiskia3169 mit den Obersten8269 hineinging und sahen7200 die Haufen6194, lobeten sie1288 den HErrn3068 und sein935 Volk5971 Israel3478.

14 Und Kore6981, der Sohn1121 Jemnas, der Levit3881, der Torhüter7778 gegen4217 Morgen, war über die freiwilligen Gaben5071 Gottes430, die dem HErrn3068 zur Hebe8641 gegeben5414 wurden6944, und über die allerheiligsten6944.

16 dazu denen, die gerechnet wurden3187 für Mannsbilde von drei7969 Jahren alt1121 und drüber, unter allen, die in8141 das1697 Haus1004 des HErrn3068 gingen935, ein jeglicher an4605 seinem Tage3117 zu ihrem Amt5656 in ihrer Hut4931 nach ihrer Ordnung4256;

17 auch die für Priester gerechnet wurden3187 im Hause1004 ihrer Väter1, und3548 die Leviten3881, von zwanzig6242 Jahren und1121 drüber, in8141 ihrer Hut4931 nach ihrer Ordnung4256;

19 Auch waren Männer582 mit Namen8034 benannt unter den Kindern1121 Aaron175, den Priestern3548, auf den Feldern7704 der Vorstädte4054 in allen Städten5892, daß sie5414 Teil4490 gäben allen Mannsbildern2145 unter den Priestern3548 und5892 allen, die unter die Leviten3881 gerechnet wurden5344.
