創世記

第34章

1 利亞給雅各所生的女兒底拿出去，要見那地的女子們。

2 那地的主─希未人、哈抹的兒子示劍看見她，就拉住她，與她同寢［lay with］，玷辱她。

3 示劍的心繫戀雅各的女兒底拿，喜愛這女子，用恩言［spake kindly］安慰她。

4 示劍對他父親哈抹說：「求你為我聘這女子為妻。」

5 雅各聽見示劍玷污了他的女兒底拿。那時他的兒子們正和群畜在田野，雅各就閉口不言，等他們回來。

6 示劍的父親哈抹出來見雅各，要和他商議。

7 雅各的兒子們聽見這事，就從田野回來，人人憂愁［grieved］，十分惱怒；因示劍在以色列家作了醜事，與雅各的女兒同寢，這本是不該作的事。

8 哈抹和他們商議說：「我兒子示劍的心戀慕這女子，求你們將她給我的兒子為妻。

9 你們與我們彼此結親；你們可以把女兒給我們，也可以娶我們的女兒。

10 你們與我們同住吧。這地都在你們面前，只管在此居住，作買賣，置產業。」

11 示劍對女兒的父親和弟兄們說：「但願我在你們眼前蒙恩，你們向我要甚麼，我必給你們。

12 任憑向我要多重的聘金和禮物，我必照你們所說的給你們；只要把女子給我為妻。」

13 雅各的兒子們因為示劍玷污了他們的妹子底拿，就用詭詐的話回答示劍和他父親哈抹，

14 對他們說：「我們不能把我們的妹子給沒有受割禮的人為妻，因為那是我們的羞辱。

15 唯有一件才可以應允：若你們所有的男丁都受割禮，和我們一樣，

16 我們就把女兒給你們，也娶你們的女兒；我們便與你們同住，兩下成為一樣的人民。

17 倘若你們不聽從我們受割禮，我們就帶著妹子走了。」

18 哈抹和他的兒子示劍喜歡這話。

19 那少年人作這事並不遲延，因為他喜愛雅各的女兒；他在他父親家中也是人最尊重的。

20 哈抹和他兒子示劍到本城的門口，跟［and］本城的人商量［coummuned］說：

21 「這些人與我們和睦，不如許他們在這地居住，作買賣；看哪［behold］，這地也寬闊，足可容下他們。我們可以娶他們的女兒為妻，也可以把我們的女兒嫁給他們。

22 唯有一件事我們必須作，他們才肯應允和我們同住，成為一樣的人民：就是我們中間所有的男丁都要受割禮，和他們一樣。

23 他們的群畜、貨財，和一切的牲口豈不都歸我們嗎？只要依從他們，他們就與我們同住。」

24 凡從他本城門口［gate of his city］出入的人就都聽從哈抹和他兒子示劍的話；於是凡從他本城門口［gate of his city］出入的男丁都受了割禮。

25 到第三天，眾人正在疼痛的時候，雅各的兩個兒子，就是底拿的哥哥西緬和利未，各拿刀劍，明明地［boldly］來到城中，把一切男丁都殺了，

26 又用刀刃［edge］殺了哈抹和他兒子示劍，把底拿從示劍家裏帶出來就走了。

27 雅各的兒子們因為他們的妹子受了玷污，就來到被殺的人那裏，擄掠那城，

28 奪了他們的羊群、牛群，和驢，並城裏田間所有的；

29 又把他們一切貨財、孩子、婦女，並各房中所有的，都擄掠去了。

30 雅各對西緬和利未說：「你們連累我，使我在這地的居民中，就是在迦南人和比利洗人中，有了臭名。我的人丁既然稀少，他們必聚集來擊殺我，我和全家的人都必滅絕。」

31 他們說：「他豈可待我們的妹子如同妓女嗎？」

Chapter 34

1 AND Dinah the daughter of Leah, whom she had borne to Jacob, went out to see the native girls.

2 And when Shechem the son of Hamor the Hivite, prince of the country, saw her, he took her and lay with her, and defiled her.

3 And his soul longed for Dinah the daughter of Jacob, and he loved the girl, and spoke kindly to the girl, and won her heart.

4 And Shechem spoke to his father Hamor, saying, Get me this girl to wife.

5 And Jacob heard that Dinah his daughter had been defiled; now his sons were with the cattle in the field; so Jacob held his peace until they came.

6 And Hamor the father of Shechem went out to Jacob to speak with him.

7 And the sons of Jacob came from the field, and when they heard the news, they were grieved; and they were very indignant, because they had wrought folly in Israel in the disgracing of Jacob's daughter, which thing ought not to be done.

8 And Hamor spoke with them, saying, The soul of my son Shechem longs for your daughter; give her to him in marriage.

9 Intermarry with us, and give your daughters to us in marriage, and take our daughters to you,

10 And dwell with us; behold, the land is before you; dwell and trade in it and inherit in it.

11 And Shechem said to her father and to her brothers, Let me find mercy in your presence, and whatever you shall ask of me I will give.

12 Ask me as much as you wish, both dowry and gifts, and I will give you according as you shall say to me; but give me this girl to wife.

13 And the sons of Jacob answered Shechem and Hamor his father deceitfully, because they had defiled Dinah their sister,

14 And they said to them, We cannot do this thing, to give our sister to a man who is uncircumcised; for that would be a reproach to us;

15 But on this condition will we consent to you: that you will become like us, and circumcise every male as we are circumcised;

16 Then we will give our daughters to you in marriage, and take your daughters to us in marriage, and we will dwell with you, and we will become one people.

17 But if you will not hearken to us, to be circumcised, then we will take our daughter and we will be gone.

18 And their words pleased Hamor, and Shechem, Hamor's son.

19 And the young man did not delay to do the thing, because he was delighted with Jacob's daughter and he was honored above all the household of his father.

20 Then Hamor and Shechem his son came to the gate of their town and spoke to the men of their town, saying,

21 These men are peaceable with us; therefore let them dwell in the land, and trade in it, for the land is large enough before them; let us take their daughters to us for wives, and let us give them our daughters.

22 But only on this condition will the men consent to dwell with us, to become one people, when every male among us is circumcised, as they are circumcised.

23 Behold, their wealth, their possessions, and all their cattle will eventually be ours; only let us consent to their proposals, and they will dwell with us.

24 And when all the adults of the town had heard from Shechem and from his father Hamor, they circumcised every male, those that went out of the gate of his town.

25 And it came to pass on the third day, when the men were sore, two sons of Jacob, Simeon and Levi, Dinah's brothers, took each man his sword, and came against the town quietly, and slew every male.

26 And they slew Hamor and Shechem his son with the edge of the sword, and took Dinah out of Shechem's house, and went out.

27 Then the sons of Jacob came back to the slain, and plundered the town, because they had defiled their sister.

28 They took their sheep and their oxen and their asses and whatever was in the town and in the field.

29 And all their wealth and all their little ones; and their wives they carried captive, and plundered everything that was in the town.

30 Then Jacob said to Simeon and Levi, You have done me a great harm, for you have hurt my reputation among the inhabitants of the land, among the Canaanites and the Perizzites; and I being few in numbers, they may gather themselves together against me, and attack me; I shall be destroyed, both I and my household.

31 But they said, Our sister has been treated like a harlot.

1 AND Dinah the daughter of Leah, whom she had borne to Jacob, went out to see the native girls.

2 And when Shechem the son of Hamor the Hivite, prince of the country, saw her, he took her and lay with her, and defiled her.

3 And his soul longed for Dinah the daughter of Jacob, and he loved the girl, and spoke kindly to the girl, and won her heart.

4 示劍對他父親哈抹說：「求你為我聘這女子為妻。」

4 And Shechem spoke to his father Hamor, saying, Get me this girl to wife.

5 雅各聽見示劍玷污了他的女兒底拿。那時他的兒子們正和群畜在田野，雅各就閉口不言，等他們回來。

5 And Jacob heard that Dinah his daughter had been defiled; now his sons were with the cattle in the field; so Jacob held his peace until they came.

6 示劍的父親哈抹出來見雅各，要和他商議。

6 And Hamor the father of Shechem went out to Jacob to speak with him.

7 雅各的兒子們聽見這事，就從田野回來，人人憂愁［grieved］，十分惱怒；因示劍在以色列家作了醜事，與雅各的女兒同寢，這本是不該作的事。

7 And the sons of Jacob came from the field, and when they heard the news, they were grieved; and they were very indignant, because they had wrought folly in Israel in the disgracing of Jacob's daughter, which thing ought not to be done.

8 哈抹和他們商議說：「我兒子示劍的心戀慕這女子，求你們將她給我的兒子為妻。

8 And Hamor spoke with them, saying, The soul of my son Shechem longs for your daughter; give her to him in marriage.

9 你們與我們彼此結親；你們可以把女兒給我們，也可以娶我們的女兒。

9 Intermarry with us, and give your daughters to us in marriage, and take our daughters to you,

10 你們與我們同住吧。這地都在你們面前，只管在此居住，作買賣，置產業。」

10 And dwell with us; behold, the land is before you; dwell and trade in it and inherit in it.

11 示劍對女兒的父親和弟兄們說：「但願我在你們眼前蒙恩，你們向我要甚麼，我必給你們。

11 And Shechem said to her father and to her brothers, Let me find mercy in your presence, and whatever you shall ask of me I will give.

12 任憑向我要多重的聘金和禮物，我必照你們所說的給你們；只要把女子給我為妻。」

12 Ask me as much as you wish, both dowry and gifts, and I will give you according as you shall say to me; but give me this girl to wife.

13 雅各的兒子們因為示劍玷污了他們的妹子底拿，就用詭詐的話回答示劍和他父親哈抹，

13 And the sons of Jacob answered Shechem and Hamor his father deceitfully, because they had defiled Dinah their sister,

14 對他們說：「我們不能把我們的妹子給沒有受割禮的人為妻，因為那是我們的羞辱。

14 And they said to them, We cannot do this thing, to give our sister to a man who is uncircumcised; for that would be a reproach to us;

15 唯有一件才可以應允：若你們所有的男丁都受割禮，和我們一樣，

15 But on this condition will we consent to you: that you will become like us, and circumcise every male as we are circumcised;

16 我們就把女兒給你們，也娶你們的女兒；我們便與你們同住，兩下成為一樣的人民。

16 Then we will give our daughters to you in marriage, and take your daughters to us in marriage, and we will dwell with you, and we will become one people.

17 倘若你們不聽從我們受割禮，我們就帶著妹子走了。」

17 But if you will not hearken to us, to be circumcised, then we will take our daughter and we will be gone.

18 哈抹和他的兒子示劍喜歡這話。

18 And their words pleased Hamor, and Shechem, Hamor's son.

19 那少年人作這事並不遲延，因為他喜愛雅各的女兒；他在他父親家中也是人最尊重的。

19 And the young man did not delay to do the thing, because he was delighted with Jacob's daughter and he was honored above all the household of his father.

20 哈抹和他兒子示劍到本城的門口，跟［and］本城的人商量［coummuned］說：

20 Then Hamor and Shechem his son came to the gate of their town and spoke to the men of their town, saying,

21 「這些人與我們和睦，不如許他們在這地居住，作買賣；看哪［behold］，這地也寬闊，足可容下他們。我們可以娶他們的女兒為妻，也可以把我們的女兒嫁給他們。

21 These men are peaceable with us; therefore let them dwell in the land, and trade in it, for the land is large enough before them; let us take their daughters to us for wives, and let us give them our daughters.

22 唯有一件事我們必須作，他們才肯應允和我們同住，成為一樣的人民：就是我們中間所有的男丁都要受割禮，和他們一樣。

22 But only on this condition will the men consent to dwell with us, to become one people, when every male among us is circumcised, as they are circumcised.

23 他們的群畜、貨財，和一切的牲口豈不都歸我們嗎？只要依從他們，他們就與我們同住。」

23 Behold, their wealth, their possessions, and all their cattle will eventually be ours; only let us consent to their proposals, and they will dwell with us.

24 凡從他本城門口［gate of his city］出入的人就都聽從哈抹和他兒子示劍的話；於是凡從他本城門口［gate of his city］出入的男丁都受了割禮。

24 And when all the adults of the town had heard from Shechem and from his father Hamor, they circumcised every male, those that went out of the gate of his town.

25 到第三天，眾人正在疼痛的時候，雅各的兩個兒子，就是底拿的哥哥西緬和利未，各拿刀劍，明明地［boldly］來到城中，把一切男丁都殺了，

25 And it came to pass on the third day, when the men were sore, two sons of Jacob, Simeon and Levi, Dinah's brothers, took each man his sword, and came against the town quietly, and slew every male.

26 又用刀刃［edge］殺了哈抹和他兒子示劍，把底拿從示劍家裏帶出來就走了。

26 And they slew Hamor and Shechem his son with the edge of the sword, and took Dinah out of Shechem's house, and went out.

27 雅各的兒子們因為他們的妹子受了玷污，就來到被殺的人那裏，擄掠那城，

27 Then the sons of Jacob came back to the slain, and plundered the town, because they had defiled their sister.

28 奪了他們的羊群、牛群，和驢，並城裏田間所有的；

28 They took their sheep and their oxen and their asses and whatever was in the town and in the field.

29 又把他們一切貨財、孩子、婦女，並各房中所有的，都擄掠去了。

29 And all their wealth and all their little ones; and their wives they carried captive, and plundered everything that was in the town.

30 雅各對西緬和利未說：「你們連累我，使我在這地的居民中，就是在迦南人和比利洗人中，有了臭名。我的人丁既然稀少，他們必聚集來擊殺我，我和全家的人都必滅絕。」

30 Then Jacob said to Simeon and Levi, You have done me a great harm, for you have hurt my reputation among the inhabitants of the land, among the Canaanites and the Perizzites; and I being few in numbers, they may gather themselves together against me, and attack me; I shall be destroyed, both I and my household.
