Chapter 9

1 Hear,8085 O Israel:3478 Thou859 art to pass over5674 853 Jordan3383 this day,3117 to go in935 to possess3423 nations1471 greater1419 and mightier6099 than4480 thyself, cities5892 great1419 and fenced up1219 to heaven,8064

2 A people5971 great1419 and tall,7311 the children1121 of the Anakims,6062 whom834 thou859 knowest,3045 and of whom thou859 hast heard8085 say, Who4310 can stand3320 before6440 the children1121 of Anak!6061

3 Understand3045 therefore this day,3117 that3588 the LORD3068 thy God430 is he1931 which goeth over5674 before6440 thee; as a consuming398 fire784 he1931 shall destroy8045 them, and he1931 shall bring them down3665 before thy face:6440 so shalt thou drive them out,3423 and destroy6 them quickly,4118 as834 the LORD3068 hath said1696 unto thee.

4 Speak559 not408 thou in thine heart,3824 after that the LORD3068 thy God430 hath cast them out1920 853 from before4480 6440 thee, saying,559 For my righteousness6666 the LORD3068 hath brought me in935 to possess3423 853 this2063 land:776 but for the wickedness7564 of these428 nations1471 the LORD3068 doth drive them out3423 from before4480 6440 thee.

5 Not3808 for thy righteousness,6666 or for the uprightness3476 of thine heart,3824 dost thou859 go935 to possess3423 853 their land:776 but3588 for the wickedness7564 of these428 nations1471 the LORD3068 thy God430 doth drive them out3423 from before4480 6440 thee, and that4616 he may perform6965 853 the word1697 which834 the LORD3068 swore7650 unto thy fathers,1 Abraham,85 Isaac,3327 and Jacob.3290

6 Understand3045 therefore, that3588 the LORD3068 thy God430 giveth5414 thee not3808 853 this2063 good2896 land776 to possess3423 it for thy righteousness;6666 for3588 thou859 art a stiffnecked7186 6203 people.5971

7 Remember,2142 and forget7911 not,408 853 how834 thou provokedst7107 853 the LORD3068 thy God430 to wrath in the wilderness:4057 from4480 the day3117 that834 thou didst depart3318 out of the land4480 776 of Egypt,4714 until5704 ye came935 unto5704 this2088 place,4725 ye have been1961 rebellious4784 against5973 the LORD.3068

8 Also in Horeb2722 ye provoked7107 853 the LORD3068 to wrath, so that the LORD3068 was angry599 with you to have destroyed8045 you.

9 When I was gone up5927 into the mount2022 to receive3947 the tables3871 of stone,68 even the tables3871 of the covenant1285 which834 the LORD3068 made3772 with5973 you, then I abode3427 in the mount2022 forty705 days3117 and forty705 nights,3915 I neither3808 did eat398 bread3899 nor3808 drink8354 water: 4325

10 And the LORD3068 delivered5414 unto413 me853 two8147 tables3871 of stone68 written3789 with the finger676 of God;430 and on5921 them was written according to all3605 the words,1697 which834 the LORD3068 spoke1696 with5973 you in the mount2022 out of the midst4480 8432 of the fire784 in the day3117 of the assembly.6951

11 And it came to pass1961 at the end4480 7093 of forty705 days3117 and forty705 nights,3915 that the LORD3068 gave5414 413 me853 the two8147 tables3871 of stone,68 even the tables3871 of the covenant.1285

12 And the LORD3068 said559 unto413 me, Arise,6965 get thee down3381 quickly4118 from hence;4480 2088 for3588 thy people5971 which834 thou hast brought forth3318 out of Egypt4480 4714 have corrupted7843 themselves; they are quickly4118 turned aside5493 out of4480 the way1870 which834 I commanded6680 them; they have made6213 them a molten image.4541

13 Furthermore the LORD3068 spoke559 unto413 me, saying,559 I have seen7200 853 this2088 people,5971 and, behold,2009 it1931 is a stiffnecked7186 6203 people: 5971

14 Let me alone,7503 4480 that I may destroy8045 them, and blot out4229 853 their name8034 from under4480 8478 heaven:8064 and I will make6213 of thee a nation1471 mightier6099 and greater7227 than4480 they.

15 So I turned6437 and came down3381 from4480 the mount,2022 and the mount2022 burned1197 with fire:784 and the two8147 tables3871 of the covenant1285 were in5921 my two8147 hands.3027

16 And I looked,7200 and, behold,2009 ye had sinned2398 against the LORD3068 your God,430 and had made6213 you a molten4541 calf:5695 ye had turned aside5493 quickly4118 out of4480 the way1870 which834 the LORD3068 had commanded6680 you.

17 And I took8610 the two8147 tables,3871 and cast7993 them out of4480 5921 my two8147 hands,3027 and broke7665 them before your eyes.5869

18 And I fell down5307 before6440 the LORD,3068 as at the first,7223 forty705 days3117 and forty705 nights:3915 I did neither3808 eat398 bread,3899 nor3808 drink8354 water,4325 because of5921 all3605 your sins2403 which834 ye sinned,2398 in doing6213 wickedly7451 in the sight5869 of the LORD,3068 to provoke him to anger.3707

19 For3588 I was afraid3025 of4480 6440 the anger639 and hot displeasure,2534 wherewith834 the LORD3068 was wroth7107 against5921 you to destroy8045 you. But the LORD3068 hearkened8085 unto413 me at that1931 time6471 also.1571

20 And the LORD3068 was very angry599 3966 with Aaron175 to have destroyed8045 him: and I prayed6419 for1157 Aaron175 also1571 the same1931 time.6256

21 And I took3947 your sin,2403 853 the calf5695 which834 ye had made,6213 and burnt8313 it with fire,784 and stamped3807 it, and ground2912 it very small,3190 even until5704 it834 was as small1854 as dust:6083 and I cast7993 853 the dust6083 thereof into413 the brook5158 that descended3381 out of4480 the mount.2022

22 And at Taberah,8404 and at Massah,4532 and at Kibroth-hattaavah,6914 ye provoked7107 853 the LORD3068 to wrath.

23 Likewise when the LORD3068 sent7971 you from Kadesh-barnea,4480 6947 saying,559 Go up5927 and possess3423 853 the land776 which834 I have given5414 you; then ye rebelled against4784 853 the commandment6310 of the LORD3068 your God,430 and ye believed539 him not,3808 nor3808 hearkened8085 to his voice.6963

24 Ye have been1961 rebellious4784 against5973 the LORD3068 from the day4480 3117 that I knew3045 you.

25 Thus I fell down5307 before6440 the LORD3068 853 forty705 days3117 and forty705 nights,3915 as834 I fell down5307 at the first; because3588 the LORD3068 had said559 he would destroy8045 you.

26 I prayed6419 therefore unto413 the LORD,3068 and said,559 O Lord136 GOD,3069 destroy7843 not408 thy people5971 and thine inheritance,5159 which834 thou hast redeemed6299 through thy greatness,1433 which834 thou hast brought forth3318 out of Egypt4480 4714 with a mighty2389 hand.3027

27 Remember2142 thy servants,5650 Abraham,85 Isaac,3327 and Jacob;3290 look6437 not408 unto413 the stubbornness7190 of this2088 people,5971 nor to413 their wickedness,7562 nor to413 their sin: 2403

28 Lest6435 the land776 whence834 4480 8034 thou broughtest us out3318 say,559 Because the LORD3068 was not able4480 1097 3201 to bring935 them into413 the land776 which834 he promised1696 them, and because he hated4480 8135 them, he hath brought them out3318 to slay4191 them in the wilderness.4057

29 Yet they1992 are thy people5971 and thine inheritance,5159 which834 thou broughtest out3318 by thy mighty1419 power3581 and by thy stretched out5186 arm.2220

Deuteronomy

Chapter 9

1 HEAR, O Israel: You are to cross the Jordan this day, to go in to destroy nations greater and mightier than yourselves, cities great and fenced up to heaven,

2 A people great and tall, the sons of giants, whom you know, and of whom you have heard it said, No man can stand up before the giants!

3 And that you may know therefore this day that the LORD your God is he who will go over before you; as a consuming fire he shall destroy them, and he shall defeat them before you; so that you shall rout them, and destroy them quickly, as the LORD has said to you.

4 Do not say in your heart, after the LORD your God has defeated them from before you, It is because of my righteousness that the LORD has brought me in to possess this land; but it is because of the wickedness of these nations that the LORD is destroying them from before you.

5 It is not because of your righteousness, or for the uprightness of your heart, that you are going in to possess their land; but it is because of the sins of these nations the LORD your God is destroying them from before you, and that he may perform the word which he swore to your fathers, Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.

6 Know therefore, that it is not because of your righteousness that the LORD your God is giving you this good land to possess it; for you are a stiffnecked people.

7 Remember, and forget not, how you provoked the LORD your God to wrath in the wilderness; from the day that you came out of Egypt until you came to this place, you have been rebellious against the LORD.

8 Also in Horeb you provoked the LORD to wrath, so the LORD was angry enough with you to have destroyed you.

9 When I went up on the mountain to receive the tablets of stone, the tablets of the covenant which the LORD made with you, and I abode on the mountain forty days and forty nights, I neither did eat bread nor drink water;

10 And the LORD gave me two tablets of stone, written with the finger of God; and on them were written all the words which the LORD had spoken with you in the mountain out of the midst of the fire on the day of the assembly.

11 And at the end of forty days and forty nights, the LORD gave me two tablets of stone, the tablets of the covenant.

12 And the LORD said to me, Arise and go down quickly from here; for your people whom you have brought forth out of Egypt have corrupted themselves; they have quickly turned aside out of the way which I commanded them; and they have made themselves a molten image.

13 Furthermore the LORD said to me, I have seen this people, and behold, it is a stiffnecked people:

14 Now let me alone, that I may destroy them, and blot out their name from under heaven; and I will make of you a nation mightier and greater than they.

15 So I turned and came down from the mountain, and the mountain was burning with fire and the two tablets of the covenant were in my two hands.

16 And I looked, and behold, you had sinned against the LORD your God, and had made to yourselves a molten calf; and you had turned aside quickly out of the way which the LORD your God had commanded you.

17 And I took the two tablets, and cast them out of my two hands, and broke them before your eyes.

18 Then I prayed before the LORD, as at the first, forty days and forty nights; I did neither eat bread nor drink water, because of all your sins which you sinned, in doing evil in the presence of the LORD, to provoke him to anger.

19 For I was afraid of the wrath and the anger wherewith the LORD was angry against you to destroy you. But the LORD hearkened to me at that time also.

20 And the LORD was angry enough with Aaron to have destroyed him; and I prayed for Aaron also the same time.

21 And I took the calf by which you sinned, which you had made, and burned it with fire, and ground it very small, until it was as fine as dust; and I threw the dust of it into the brook that flowed down out of the mountain.

22 And in heat, and in trials, and at the Kabrey di ragrigtha the people lusted for meat; you provoked the LORD to anger.

23 Likewise when the LORD sent you from Rakim-gia, and said to you, Go up and possess the land which I have given you; then you rebelled against the commandment of the LORD your God, and you did not believe him, nor hearken to his voice.

24 You have been rebellious against the LORD from the day that I knew you.

25 Thus I prayed before the LORD forty days and forty nights, because the LORD had said he would destroy you.

26 I prayed therefore before the LORD, and said, O LORD God, destroy not thy people and thy inheritance, whom thou hast saved through thy greatness, whom thou hast brought forth out of Egypt with a mighty hand.

27 But remember thy servants, Abraham, Isaac and Jacob; look not to the stubbornness of this people, nor to their wickedness, nor to their sins;

28 Lest the inhabitants of the land out of which thou didst bring them say, Because the LORD was not able to bring them into the land which he promised them, and because he hated them, he has brought them out to slay them in the wilderness.

29 Yet they are thy people and thy inheritance, whom thou broughtest out by thy mighty power and by thy outstretched arm.

1 HEAR, O Israel: You are to cross the Jordan this day, to go in to destroy nations greater and mightier than yourselves, cities great and fenced up to heaven,

2 A people5971 great1419 and tall,7311 the children1121 of the Anakims,6062 whom834 thou859 knowest,3045 and of whom thou859 hast heard8085 say, Who4310 can stand3320 before6440 the children1121 of Anak!6061

2 A people great and tall, the sons of giants, whom you know, and of whom you have heard it said, No man can stand up before the giants!

3 And that you may know therefore this day that the LORD your God is he who will go over before you; as a consuming fire he shall destroy them, and he shall defeat them before you; so that you shall rout them, and destroy them quickly, as the LORD has said to you.

4 Do not say in your heart, after the LORD your God has defeated them from before you, It is because of my righteousness that the LORD has brought me in to possess this land; but it is because of the wickedness of these nations that the LORD is destroying them from before you.

5 It is not because of your righteousness, or for the uprightness of your heart, that you are going in to possess their land; but it is because of the sins of these nations the LORD your God is destroying them from before you, and that he may perform the word which he swore to your fathers, Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.

6 Understand3045 therefore, that3588 the LORD3068 thy God430 giveth5414 thee not3808 853 this2063 good2896 land776 to possess3423 it for thy righteousness;6666 for3588 thou859 art a stiffnecked7186 6203 people.5971

6 Know therefore, that it is not because of your righteousness that the LORD your God is giving you this good land to possess it; for you are a stiffnecked people.

7 Remember, and forget not, how you provoked the LORD your God to wrath in the wilderness; from the day that you came out of Egypt until you came to this place, you have been rebellious against the LORD.

8 Also in Horeb2722 ye provoked7107 853 the LORD3068 to wrath, so that the LORD3068 was angry599 with you to have destroyed8045 you.

8 Also in Horeb you provoked the LORD to wrath, so the LORD was angry enough with you to have destroyed you.

9 When I went up on the mountain to receive the tablets of stone, the tablets of the covenant which the LORD made with you, and I abode on the mountain forty days and forty nights, I neither did eat bread nor drink water;

10 And the LORD gave me two tablets of stone, written with the finger of God; and on them were written all the words which the LORD had spoken with you in the mountain out of the midst of the fire on the day of the assembly.

11 And it came to pass1961 at the end4480 7093 of forty705 days3117 and forty705 nights,3915 that the LORD3068 gave5414 413 me853 the two8147 tables3871 of stone,68 even the tables3871 of the covenant.1285

11 And at the end of forty days and forty nights, the LORD gave me two tablets of stone, the tablets of the covenant.

12 And the LORD said to me, Arise and go down quickly from here; for your people whom you have brought forth out of Egypt have corrupted themselves; they have quickly turned aside out of the way which I commanded them; and they have made themselves a molten image.

13 Furthermore the LORD3068 spoke559 unto413 me, saying,559 I have seen7200 853 this2088 people,5971 and, behold,2009 it1931 is a stiffnecked7186 6203 people: 5971

13 Furthermore the LORD said to me, I have seen this people, and behold, it is a stiffnecked people:

14 Let me alone,7503 4480 that I may destroy8045 them, and blot out4229 853 their name8034 from under4480 8478 heaven:8064 and I will make6213 of thee a nation1471 mightier6099 and greater7227 than4480 they.

14 Now let me alone, that I may destroy them, and blot out their name from under heaven; and I will make of you a nation mightier and greater than they.

15 So I turned6437 and came down3381 from4480 the mount,2022 and the mount2022 burned1197 with fire:784 and the two8147 tables3871 of the covenant1285 were in5921 my two8147 hands.3027

15 So I turned and came down from the mountain, and the mountain was burning with fire and the two tablets of the covenant were in my two hands.

16 And I looked, and behold, you had sinned against the LORD your God, and had made to yourselves a molten calf; and you had turned aside quickly out of the way which the LORD your God had commanded you.

17 And I took8610 the two8147 tables,3871 and cast7993 them out of4480 5921 my two8147 hands,3027 and broke7665 them before your eyes.5869

17 And I took the two tablets, and cast them out of my two hands, and broke them before your eyes.

18 Then I prayed before the LORD, as at the first, forty days and forty nights; I did neither eat bread nor drink water, because of all your sins which you sinned, in doing evil in the presence of the LORD, to provoke him to anger.

19 For I was afraid of the wrath and the anger wherewith the LORD was angry against you to destroy you. But the LORD hearkened to me at that time also.

20 And the LORD3068 was very angry599 3966 with Aaron175 to have destroyed8045 him: and I prayed6419 for1157 Aaron175 also1571 the same1931 time.6256

20 And the LORD was angry enough with Aaron to have destroyed him; and I prayed for Aaron also the same time.

21 And I took the calf by which you sinned, which you had made, and burned it with fire, and ground it very small, until it was as fine as dust; and I threw the dust of it into the brook that flowed down out of the mountain.

22 And at Taberah,8404 and at Massah,4532 and at Kibroth-hattaavah,6914 ye provoked7107 853 the LORD3068 to wrath.

22 And in heat, and in trials, and at the Kabrey di ragrigtha the people lusted for meat; you provoked the LORD to anger.

23 Likewise when the LORD sent you from Rakim-gia, and said to you, Go up and possess the land which I have given you; then you rebelled against the commandment of the LORD your God, and you did not believe him, nor hearken to his voice.

24 Ye have been1961 rebellious4784 against5973 the LORD3068 from the day4480 3117 that I knew3045 you.

24 You have been rebellious against the LORD from the day that I knew you.

25 Thus I fell down5307 before6440 the LORD3068 853 forty705 days3117 and forty705 nights,3915 as834 I fell down5307 at the first; because3588 the LORD3068 had said559 he would destroy8045 you.

25 Thus I prayed before the LORD forty days and forty nights, because the LORD had said he would destroy you.

26 I prayed therefore before the LORD, and said, O LORD God, destroy not thy people and thy inheritance, whom thou hast saved through thy greatness, whom thou hast brought forth out of Egypt with a mighty hand.

27 Remember2142 thy servants,5650 Abraham,85 Isaac,3327 and Jacob;3290 look6437 not408 unto413 the stubbornness7190 of this2088 people,5971 nor to413 their wickedness,7562 nor to413 their sin: 2403

27 But remember thy servants, Abraham, Isaac and Jacob; look not to the stubbornness of this people, nor to their wickedness, nor to their sins;

28 Lest the inhabitants of the land out of which thou didst bring them say, Because the LORD was not able to bring them into the land which he promised them, and because he hated them, he has brought them out to slay them in the wilderness.

29 Yet they1992 are thy people5971 and thine inheritance,5159 which834 thou broughtest out3318 by thy mighty1419 power3581 and by thy stretched out5186 arm.2220

29 Yet they are thy people and thy inheritance, whom thou broughtest out by thy mighty power and by thy outstretched arm.
