Judges

Chapter 2

1 And an angel4397 of the LORD3068 came up5927 from4480 Gilgal1537 to413 Bochim,1066 and said,559 I made you to go up5927 853 out of Egypt,4480 4714 and have brought935 you unto413 the land776 which834 I swore7650 unto your fathers;1 and I said,559 I will never3808 5769 break6565 my covenant1285 with854 you.

2 And ye859 shall make3772 no3808 league1285 with the inhabitants3427 of this2063 land;776 ye shall throw down5422 their altars:4196 but ye have not3808 obeyed8085 my voice:6963 why4100 have ye done6213 this?2063

3 Wherefore I also1571 said,559 I will not3808 drive them out1644 853 from before4480 6440 you; but they shall be1961 as thorns in your sides,6654 and their gods430 shall be1961 a snare4170 unto you.

4 And it came to pass,1961 when the angel4397 of the LORD3068 spoke1696 853 these428 words1697 unto413 all3605 the children1121 of Israel,3478 that the people5971 lifted up5375 853 their voice,6963 and wept.1058

5 And they called7121 the name8034 of that1931 place4725 Bochim:1066 and they sacrificed2076 there8033 unto the LORD.3068

6 And when Joshua3091 had let853 the people5971 go,7971 the children1121 of Israel3478 went1980 every man376 unto his inheritance5159 to possess3423 853 the land.776

7 And the people5971 served5647 853 the LORD3068 all3605 the days3117 of Joshua,3091 and all3605 the days3117 of the elders2205 that834 outlived748 3117 310 Joshua,3091 who834 had seen7200 853 all3605 the great1419 works4639 of the LORD,3068 that834 he did6213 for Israel.3478

8 And Joshua3091 the son1121 of Nun,5126 the servant5650 of the LORD,3068 died,4191 being a hundred3967 and ten6235 years8141 old.1121

9 And they buried6912 him in the border1366 of his inheritance5159 in Timnath-heres,8556 in the mount2022 of Ephraim,669 on the north side4480 6828 of the hill2022 Gaash.1608

10 And also1571 all3605 that1931 generation1755 were gathered622 unto413 their fathers:1 and there arose6965 another312 generation1755 after310 them, which834 knew3045 not3808 853 the LORD,3068 nor yet1571 853 the works4639 which834 he had done6213 for Israel.3478

11 And the children1121 of Israel3478 did6213 853 evil7451 in the sight5869 of the LORD,3068 and served5647 853 Baalim: 1168

12 And they forsook5800 853 the LORD3068 God430 of their fathers,1 which brought them out3318 853 of the land4480 776 of Egypt,4714 and followed1980 310 other312 gods,430 of the gods4480 430 of the people5971 that834 were round about5439 them, and bowed themselves7812 unto them, and provoked3707 853 the LORD3068 to anger.3707

13 And they forsook5800 853 the LORD,3068 and served5647 Baal1168 and Ashtaroth.6252

14 And the anger639 of the LORD3068 was hot2734 against Israel,3478 and he delivered5414 them into the hands3027 of spoilers8154 that spoiled8155 them, and he sold4376 them into the hands3027 of their enemies341 round about,4480 5439 so that they could3201 not3808 any longer5750 stand5975 before6440 their enemies.341

15 Whithersoever3605 834 they went out,3318 the hand3027 of the LORD3068 was1961 against them for evil,7451 as834 the LORD3068 had said,1696 and as834 the LORD3068 had sworn7650 unto them: and they were greatly3966 distressed.3334

16 Nevertheless the LORD3068 raised up6965 judges,8199 which delivered3467 them out of the hand4480 3027 of those that spoiled8154 them.

17 And yet1571 they would not3808 hearken8085 unto413 their judges,8199 but3588 they went a whoring2181 after310 other312 gods,430 and bowed themselves7812 unto them: they turned5493 quickly4118 out of4480 the way1870 which834 their fathers1 walked1980 in, obeying8085 the commandments4687 of the LORD;3068 but they did6213 not3808 so.3651

18 And when3588 the LORD3068 raised them up6965 judges,8199 then the LORD3068 was1961 with5973 the judge,8199 and delivered3467 them out of the hand4480 3027 of their enemies341 all3605 the days3117 of the judge:8199 for3588 it repented5162 the LORD3068 because of their groanings4480 5009 by reason of them4480 6440 that oppressed3905 them and vexed1766 them.

19 And it came to pass,1961 when the judge8199 was dead,4191 that they returned,7725 and corrupted7843 themselves more than their fathers,4480 1 in following1980 310 other312 gods430 to serve5647 them, and to bow down7812 unto them; they ceased5307 not3808 from their own doings,4480 4611 nor from their stubborn way.4480 1870 7186

20 And the anger639 of the LORD3068 was hot2734 against Israel;3478 and he said,559 Because3282 that834 this2088 people1471 hath transgressed5674 853 my covenant1285 which834 I commanded6680 853 their fathers,1 and have not3808 hearkened8085 unto my voice;6963

21 I589 also1571 will not3808 henceforth3254 drive out3423 any376 from before4480 6440 them of4480 the nations1471 which834 Joshua3091 left5800 when he died: 4191

22 That4616 through them I may prove5254 853 Israel,3478 whether they1992 will keep8104 853 the way1870 of the LORD3068 to walk1980 therein, as834 their fathers1 did keep8104 it, or518 not.3808

23 Therefore the LORD3068 left5117 853 those428 nations,1471 without1115 driving them out3423 hastily;4118 neither3808 delivered5414 he them into the hand3027 of Joshua.3091

Chapter 2

1 AND the angel of the LORD came up from Gilgal to Bikhian, and said to the children of Israel, Thus says the LORD, I have brought you up from the land of Egypt, and have brought you into the land which I swore to your fathers; and I said, I will never break my covenant with you.

2 And you shall make no league with the inhabitants of this land; you shall destroy their altars; but you have not obeyed my voice. Why have you done this?

3 Wherefore I also said, I will not destroy them from before you; but they shall become vanity, and their gods shall be a stumbling block to you.

4 And when the angel of the LORD spoke these words to the children of Israel, all the people lifted up their voices and wept.

5 And the people called the name of that place Bikhian; and they sacrificed there to the LORD.

6 And when Joshua had dismissed the people, the children of Israel went away every man to his inheritance to possess the land.

7 And the people served the LORD all the days of Joshua and all the days of the elders who outlived Joshua, who had seen all the works of the LORD and the great things which he had done for Israel.

8 And Joshua the son of Nun, the servant of the LORD, died at the age of one hundred and ten years.

9 And they buried him in the land of his inheritance at Timnath-serah on the mount of Ephraim, on the north side of mount Gaash.

10 And all that generation were gathered to their fathers; and there arose another generation after them, who did not know the LORD nor the works which he had done for Israel.

11 And the children of Israel did evil in the sight of the LORD, and served Baal;

12 And they forsook the LORD God of their fathers, who had brought them up out of the land of Egypt, and followed other gods, gods of the peoples who were round about them, and they worshipped them, and provoked the LORD to anger.

13 So they forsook the LORD and served Baal and Ashtaroth.

14 land the anger of the LORD was kindled against Israel, and he delivered them into the hands of spoilers, and they plundered them, and he delivered them into the hands of their enemies round about them, so that they could no longer stand before their enemies.

15 Wherever they went, the hand of the LORD was against them for evil, as the LORD had said, and as the LORD had sworn to them; and they were greatly distressed.

16 Then the LORD raised up judges among the Israelites, and they delivered them out of the hand of those who plundered them.

17 And yet they would not hearken to their judges, because they had gone astray after other gods and worshipped them; they turned aside quickly from the way in which their fathers walked, who had listened to the commandments of the LORD, but they did not do so.

18 And when the LORD raised up judges for them, then the LORD was with the judges, and delivered them out of the hand of their enemies all the days of the judges; the LORD would hear their groaning because of their oppressors and those that drove them away.

19 And it came to pass, when the judges were dead, they returned and became more corrupt than their fathers, in following other gods to serve and to worship them; they did not cease from their wickedness, nor from their evil ways.

20 And the anger of the LORD was kindled against Israel; and he said, Because this people have transgressed my covenant which I commanded their fathers, and have not hearkened to my voice;

21 I also will no longer destroy any man from before them of the nations which Joshua left when he died;

22 That through them I may prove Israel whether they will keep the way of the LORD, and whether they will walk in it, as their fathers did keep it, or not.

23 Therefore the LORD left these nations, and did not destroy them hastily; neither had he delivered them into the hand of Joshua.

5 And the people called the name of that place Bikhian; and they sacrificed there to the LORD.

6 And when Joshua3091 had let853 the people5971 go,7971 the children1121 of Israel3478 went1980 every man376 unto his inheritance5159 to possess3423 853 the land.776

6 And when Joshua had dismissed the people, the children of Israel went away every man to his inheritance to possess the land.

7 And the people served the LORD all the days of Joshua and all the days of the elders who outlived Joshua, who had seen all the works of the LORD and the great things which he had done for Israel.

8 And Joshua3091 the son1121 of Nun,5126 the servant5650 of the LORD,3068 died,4191 being a hundred3967 and ten6235 years8141 old.1121

8 And Joshua the son of Nun, the servant of the LORD, died at the age of one hundred and ten years.

9 And they buried6912 him in the border1366 of his inheritance5159 in Timnath-heres,8556 in the mount2022 of Ephraim,669 on the north side4480 6828 of the hill2022 Gaash.1608

9 And they buried him in the land of his inheritance at Timnath-serah on the mount of Ephraim, on the north side of mount Gaash.

11 And the children of Israel did evil in the sight of the LORD, and served Baal;

13 So they forsook the LORD and served Baal and Ashtaroth.

14 land the anger of the LORD was kindled against Israel, and he delivered them into the hands of spoilers, and they plundered them, and he delivered them into the hands of their enemies round about them, so that they could no longer stand before their enemies.

15 Wherever they went, the hand of the LORD was against them for evil, as the LORD had said, and as the LORD had sworn to them; and they were greatly distressed.

16 Nevertheless the LORD3068 raised up6965 judges,8199 which delivered3467 them out of the hand4480 3027 of those that spoiled8154 them.

16 Then the LORD raised up judges among the Israelites, and they delivered them out of the hand of those who plundered them.

17 And yet they would not hearken to their judges, because they had gone astray after other gods and worshipped them; they turned aside quickly from the way in which their fathers walked, who had listened to the commandments of the LORD, but they did not do so.

18 And when the LORD raised up judges for them, then the LORD was with the judges, and delivered them out of the hand of their enemies all the days of the judges; the LORD would hear their groaning because of their oppressors and those that drove them away.

19 And it came to pass, when the judges were dead, they returned and became more corrupt than their fathers, in following other gods to serve and to worship them; they did not cease from their wickedness, nor from their evil ways.

20 And the anger of the LORD was kindled against Israel; and he said, Because this people have transgressed my covenant which I commanded their fathers, and have not hearkened to my voice;

21 I589 also1571 will not3808 henceforth3254 drive out3423 any376 from before4480 6440 them of4480 the nations1471 which834 Joshua3091 left5800 when he died: 4191

21 I also will no longer destroy any man from before them of the nations which Joshua left when he died;

22 That4616 through them I may prove5254 853 Israel,3478 whether they1992 will keep8104 853 the way1870 of the LORD3068 to walk1980 therein, as834 their fathers1 did keep8104 it, or518 not.3808

22 That through them I may prove Israel whether they will keep the way of the LORD, and whether they will walk in it, as their fathers did keep it, or not.

23 Therefore the LORD3068 left5117 853 those428 nations,1471 without1115 driving them out3423 hastily;4118 neither3808 delivered5414 he them into the hand3027 of Joshua.3091

23 Therefore the LORD left these nations, and did not destroy them hastily; neither had he delivered them into the hand of Joshua.
