Chapter 22

1 AND it came to pass after these things that God tested Abraham and said to him, Abraham. And he said, Behold, here I am.

2 And he said, Take now your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of the Amorites; and offer him there for a burnt offering upon one of the mountains of which I will tell you.

3 And Abraham rose up early in the morning and saddled his ass and took two of his young men with him and Isaac his son, and cut wood for the burnt offering and rose up and went to the place of which God had told him.

4 And on the third day Abraham lifted up his eyes and saw the place afar off.

5 And he said to his young men, You stay here with the ass, and I and the boy will go yonder to worship and return to you.

6 And Abraham took the wood for the burnt offering and laid it upon Isaac his son, and he took the fire in a container and a knife in his hand, and they went both of them together.

7 And Isaac spoke to Abraham his father and said, My father. And he answered. Here I am, my son. And Isaac said, Behold the fire and the wood: but where is the lamb for a burnt offering?

8 And Abraham said, God will provide himself the lamb for a burnt offering, my son. So they went both of them together.

9 And they came to the place of which God had told him; and Abraham built an altar there and laid the wood in order and bound Isaac his son and laid him on the altar upon the wood.

10 Then Abraham stretched forth his hand and took the knife to slay his son.

11 And the angel of the LORD called to him from heaven and said. Abraham! Abraham! And he said, Here am I.

12 And he said to him, Do not lay your hand on the boy, neither shall you harm him; for now I know that you are a man who reveres God, seeing that you have not withheld your son, your only son, from me.

13 And Abraham lifted up his eyes and looked, and behold a ram caught in a thicket by his horns; and Abraham went and took the ram and offered it up for a burnt offering instead of his son.

14 And Abraham called the name of that place Mariah-nekhzey, that is, the LORD will provide, as it is said to this day on this mountain, The LORD shall provide.

15 And the angel of the LORD called to Abraham from heaven a second time

16 And said, I have sworn by myself, says the LORD, for because you have done this thing and have not withheld your son, your only son, from me,

17 I will surely bless you, and I will surely multiply your descendants as the stars of the heaven, and as the sand which is on the sea shore; and your descendants shall inherit the lands of their enemies;

18 And by your seed shall all the nations of the earth be blessed because you have obeyed my voice.

19 So Abraham returned to his young men and they rose up and went together to Beer-sheba, and Abraham dwelt in Beer-sheba.

20 And it came to pass after these things that it was told Abraham, saying, Behold, Milcah has also borne children to your brother Nahor:

21 Uz his first-born, Buz his brother, and Kemuel the father of Aram,

22 And Khasar, Hazo, Pilrash, Jarlaph, and Bethuel.

23 And Bethuel begot Rebekah; these eight Milcah did bear to Nahor, Abraham's brother.

24 And his concubine, whose name was Romah, also bore Tebah, Gaham, Thahash, and Maachah.

3 And Abraham85 rose7925 up early7925 in the morning,1242 and saddled2280 his ass,2543 and took3947 two8147 of his young5288 men with him, and Isaac3327 his son,1121 and split1234 the wood6086 for the burnt5930 offering, and rose6965 up, and went3212 to the place4725 of which God430 had told559 him.

4 Then on the third7992 day3117 Abraham85 lifted5375 up his eyes,5869 and saw7200 the place4725 afar7350 off.

5 And Abraham85 said559 to his young5288 men, Abide3427 you here6311 with the ass;2543 and I and the lad5288 will go3212 yonder5704 3541 and worship,7812 and come7725 again7725 to you.

6 And Abraham85 took3947 the wood6086 of the burnt5930 offering, and laid7760 it on Isaac3327 his son;1121 and he took3947 the fire784 in his hand,3027 and a knife;3979 and they went3212 both8147 of them together.3162

7 And Isaac3327 spoke559 to Abraham85 his father,1 and said,559 My father:1 and he said,559 Here2009 am I, my son.1121 And he said,559 Behold2009 the fire784 and the wood:6086 but where346 is the lamb7716 for a burnt5930 offering?

8 And Abraham85 said,559 My son,1121 God430 will provide7200 himself a lamb7716 for a burnt5930 offering: so they went3212 both8147 of them together.3162

9 And they came935 to the place4725 which834 God430 had told559 him of; and Abraham85 built1129 an altar4196 there,8033 and laid the wood6086 in order,6186 and bound6123 Isaac3327 his son,1121 and laid7760 him on5921 the altar4196 on the wood.6086

10 And Abraham85 stretched7971 forth his hand,3027 and took3947 the knife3979 to slay7819 his son.1121

11 And the angel4397 of the LORD3068 called7121 to him out of heaven,8064 and said,559 Abraham,85 Abraham:85 and he said,559 Here2009 am I.

12 And he said,559 Lay7971 not your hand3027 on the lad,5288 neither408 do6213 you any3972 thing to him: for now6258 I know3045 that you fear3373 God,430 seeing you have not withheld2820 your son,1121 your only3162 son from me.

13 And Abraham85 lifted5375 up his eyes,5869 and looked,7200 and behold2009 behind310 him a ram352 caught270 in a thicket5442 by his horns:7161 and Abraham85 went3212 and took3947 the ram,352 and offered5927 him up for a burnt5930 offering in the stead8478 of his son.1121

14 And Abraham85 called7121 the name8034 of that place4725 Jehovahjireh:3070 as it is said559 to this day,3117 In the mount2022 of the LORD3068 it shall be seen.7200

15 And the angel4397 of the LORD3068 called7121 to Abraham85 out of heaven8064 the second8145 time,6256
