Matthew

Chapter 22

1 And Jesus2424 answered611 and spoke2036 to them again3825 by parables,3850 and said,3004

2 The kingdom932 of heaven3772 is like3666 to a certain444 king,935 which3748 made4160 a marriage1062 for his son,5207

3 And sent649 forth649 his servants1401 to call2564 them that were bidden2564 to the wedding:1062 and they would2309 not come.2064

4 Again,3825 he sent649 forth649 other243 servants,1401 saying,3004 Tell2036 them which are bidden,2564 Behold,2400 I have prepared2090 my dinner:712 my oxen5022 and my fatted calves4619 are killed,2380 and all3956 things are ready:2092 come1205 to the marriage.1062

5 But they made272 light272 of it, and went565 their ways, one3538 3303 to his farm,68 another to his merchandise:1711

6 And the remnant3062 took2902 his servants,1401 and entreated5195 them spitefully,5195 and slew615 them.

7 But when the king935 heard191 thereof, he was wroth:3710 and he sent3992 forth his armies,4753 and destroyed622 those1565 murderers,5406 and burned1714 up their city.4172

8 Then5119 said3004 he to his servants,1401 The wedding1062 is ready,2092 but they which were bidden2564 were not worthy.514

9 Go4198 you therefore3767 into1909 the highways,1327 3598 and as many3745 as you shall find,2147 bid2564 to the marriage.1062

10 So2532 those1565 servants1401 went1831 out into1519 the highways,1327 3598 and gathered4863 together4863 all3956 as many3745 as they found,2147 both5037 bad4190 and good:18 and the wedding1062 was furnished4130 with guests.345

11 And when the king935 came1525 in to see2300 the guests,345 he saw1492 there1563 a man444 which had1746 not on1746 a wedding1062 garment:1742

12 And he said3004 to him, Friend,2083 how4459 came1525 you in here5602 not having2192 a wedding1062 garment?1742 And he was speechless.5392

13 Then5119 said2036 the king935 to the servants,1249 Bind1210 him hand5495 and foot,4228 and take142 him away,142 and cast1544 him into1519 outer1857 darkness,4655 there1563 shall be weeping2805 and gnashing1030 of teeth.3599

14 For many4183 are called,2822 but few3641 are chosen.1588

15 Then5119 went4198 the Pharisees,5330 and took2983 counsel4824 how3704 they might entangle3802 him in his talk.3056

16 And they sent649 out to him their disciples3101 with the Herodians,2265 saying,3004 Master,1320 we know1492 that you are1488 true,227 and teach1321 the way3598 of God2316 in truth,225 neither2532 3756 care3199 you for any3762 man:3762 for you regard991 not the person4383 of men.444

17 Tell2036 us therefore,3767 What5101 think1380 you? Is it lawful1832 to give1325 tribute2778 to Caesar,2541 or2228 not?

18 But Jesus2424 perceived1097 their wickedness,4189 and said,2036 Why5101 tempt3985 you me, you hypocrites?5273

19 Show1925 me the tribute2778 money.3546 And they brought4374 to him a penny.1220

20 And he said3004 to them, Whose5101 is this3778 image1504 and superscription?1923

21 They say3004 to him, Caesar's.2541 Then5119 said3004 he to them, Render591 therefore3767 to Caesar2541 the things which are Caesar's;2541 and to God2316 the things that are God's.2316

22 When they had heard191 these words, they marveled,2296 and left863 him, and went565 their way.

23 The same1565 day2250 came4334 to him the Sadducees,4523 which3588 say3004 that there is no3361 resurrection,386 and asked1905 him,

24 Saying,3004 Master,1320 Moses3475 said,2036 If1437 a man5100 die,599 having2192 no3361 children,5043 his brother80 shall marry1918 his wife,1135 and raise450 up seed4690 to his brother.80

25 Now1161 there were with us seven2033 brothers:80 and the first,4413 when he had married1060 a wife, deceased,5053 and, having2192 no3361 issue,4690 left863 his wife1135 to his brother:80

26 Likewise3668 the second1208 also,2532 and the third,5154 to the seventh.2035

27 And last5305 of all3956 the woman1135 died599 also.2532

28 Therefore3767 in the resurrection386 whose5101 wife1135 shall she be of the seven?2033 for they all3956 had2192 her.

29 Jesus2424 answered611 and said2036 to them, You do err,4105 not knowing1492 the scriptures,1124 nor3366 the power1411 of God.2316

30 For in the resurrection386 they neither3777 marry,1060 nor3777 are given1547 in marriage,1548 but are as the angels32 of God2316 in heaven.3772

31 But as touching4012 the resurrection386 of the dead,3498 have you not read314 that which3588 was spoken4483 to you by God,2316 saying,3004

32 I am1510 the God2316 of Abraham,11 and the God2316 of Isaac,2464 and the God2316 of Jacob?2384 God2316 is not the God2316 of the dead,3498 but of the living.2198

33 And when the multitude3793 heard191 this, they were astonished1605 at1909 his doctrine.1322

34 But when the Pharisees5330 had heard191 that he had put the Sadducees4523 to silence,5392 they were gathered4863 together.1909

35 Then2532 one1520 of them, which was a lawyer,3544 asked1905 him a question, tempting3985 him, and saying,3004

36 Master,1320 which4169 is the great3173 commandment1785 in the law?3551

37 Jesus2424 said2036 to him, You shall love25 the Lord2962 your God2316 with all3650 your heart,2588 and with all3650 your soul,5590 and with all3650 your mind.1271

38 This3778 is the first4413 and great3173 commandment.1785

39 And the second1208 is like3664 to it, You shall love25 your neighbor4139 as yourself.4572

40 On1722 these5025 two1417 commandments1785 hang2910 all3650 the law3551 and the prophets.4396

41 While the Pharisees5330 were gathered4863 together,4863 Jesus2424 asked1905 them,

42 Saying,3004 What5101 think1380 you of Christ?5547 whose5101 son5207 is he? They say3004 to him, The son of David.1138

43 He said3004 to them, How4459 then3767 does David1138 in spirit4151 call2564 him Lord,2962 saying,3004

44 The LORD2962 said2036 to my Lord,2962 Sit2521 you on1537 my right1188 hand, till2193 I make5087 your4675 enemies2190 your footstool?5286 4228

45 If1487 David1138 then3767 call2564 him Lord,2962 how4459 is he his son?5207

46 And no3762 man3762 was able1410 to answer611 him a word,3056 neither3761 dared5111 any5100 man from that day2250 forth ask1905 him any3765 more3765 questions.

Matthew

Chapter 22

1 AND Jesus answered again by parables, and said,

2 The kingdom of heaven is like a king who gave a marriage-feast for his son.

3 And he sent his servants to call those who were invited to the marriage-feast, but they would not come.

4 Again he sent other servants and said, Tell those who are invited, Behold my supper is ready, and my oxen and fatlings are killed, and everything is prepared; come to the marriage- feast.

5 But they sneered at it, and went away, one to his field, another to his business;

6 And the rest seized his servants and insulted them, and killed them.

7 When the king heard it he was angry; and he sent out his armies and destroyed those murderers, and burned their city.

8 Then he said to his servants, Now the marriage-feast is ready, and those who were invited were unworthy.

9 Go, therefore, to the main roads, and whomever you may find, invite them to the marriage- feast.

10 So the servants went out to the roads and gathered together every one they could find, bad and good; and the wedding-house was filled with guests.

11 When the king entered to see the guests, he saw there a man who was not wearing wedding garments.

12 And he said to him, My friend, how did you enter here, when you do not have wedding garments? And he was speechless.

13 Then the king said to the servants, Bind his hands and his feet and take him out into darkness; there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.

14 For many are invited, and few are chosen.

15 Then the Pharisees went away and took counsel how to trap him by a word.

16 So they sent to him their disciples together with the Herodians, and they said to him, Teacher, we know that you are true, and you teach the way of God justly; and you do not favor any man, for you do not discriminate between men.

17 Tell us, therefore, what do you think? Is it lawful to pay head-tax to Caesar, or not?

18 But Jesus knew their evil, and said, Why do you tempt me, O hypocrites?

19 Show me the head-tax penny. And they brought to him a penny.

20 And Jesus said to them, Whose is this image and inscription?

21 They said, Caesar's. He said to them, Give therefore to Caesar what is Caesar's, and to God what is God's.

22 And when they heard it, they were amazed; and they left him and went away.

23 That same day the Sadducees came and said to him, There is no resurrection of the dead; and they asked him,

24 And said to him, Teacher, Moses has told us, If a man die without sons, let his brother take his wife, and raise up offspring for his brother.

25 Now there were with us seven brothers; the first married and died, and because he had no sons, he left his wife to his brother.

26 Likewise the second, also the third, up to the seventh.

27 And after them all the woman also died.

28 Therefore at the resurrection, to which of these seven will she be a wife? for they all married her.

29 Jesus answered, and said to them, You err, because you do not understand the scriptures nor the power of God.

30 For at the resurrection of the dead, they neither marry women, nor are women given to men in marriage, but they are like the angels of God in heaven.

31 But concerning the resurrection of the dead, have you not read what was said to you by God, saying,

32 I am the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, the God of Jacob? And yet God is not the God of the dead, but of the living.

33 And when the people heard it, they were amazed at his teaching.

34 But when the Pharisees heard that he had silenced the Sadducees, they gathered together.

35 And one of them who knew the law, asked him, testing him,

36 Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the law?

37 Jesus said to him, Love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your power, and with all your mind.

38 This is the greatest and the first commandment.

39 And the second is like to it, Love your neighbor as yourself.

40 On these two commandments hang the law and the prophets.

41 While the Pharisees were gathered together, Jesus asked them,

42 And he said, What do you say concerning the Christ? whose son is he? They said to him, son of David.

43 He said to them, How is it then that David through the Spirit calls him Lord? For he said,

44 The Lord said to my Lord, Sit at my right hand, until I put your enemies under your feet.

45 If David then calls him Lord, how can he be his son?

46 And no man was able to answer him, and from that day no man dared to question him.

11 When the king entered to see the guests, he saw there a man who was not wearing wedding garments.

12 And he said3004 to him, Friend,2083 how4459 came1525 you in here5602 not having2192 a wedding1062 garment?1742 And he was speechless.5392

12 And he said to him, My friend, how did you enter here, when you do not have wedding garments? And he was speechless.

13 Then the king said to the servants, Bind his hands and his feet and take him out into darkness; there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.

14 For many4183 are called,2822 but few3641 are chosen.1588

14 For many are invited, and few are chosen.

15 Then5119 went4198 the Pharisees,5330 and took2983 counsel4824 how3704 they might entangle3802 him in his talk.3056

15 Then the Pharisees went away and took counsel how to trap him by a word.

19 Show1925 me the tribute2778 money.3546 And they brought4374 to him a penny.1220

19 Show me the head-tax penny. And they brought to him a penny.

20 And he said3004 to them, Whose5101 is this3778 image1504 and superscription?1923

20 And Jesus said to them, Whose is this image and inscription?

21 They say3004 to him, Caesar's.2541 Then5119 said3004 he to them, Render591 therefore3767 to Caesar2541 the things which are Caesar's;2541 and to God2316 the things that are God's.2316

21 They said, Caesar's. He said to them, Give therefore to Caesar what is Caesar's, and to God what is God's.

22 When they had heard191 these words, they marveled,2296 and left863 him, and went565 their way.

23 The same1565 day2250 came4334 to him the Sadducees,4523 which3588 say3004 that there is no3361 resurrection,386 and asked1905 him,

23 That same day the Sadducees came and said to him, There is no resurrection of the dead; and they asked him,

24 Saying,3004 Master,1320 Moses3475 said,2036 If1437 a man5100 die,599 having2192 no3361 children,5043 his brother80 shall marry1918 his wife,1135 and raise450 up seed4690 to his brother.80

24 And said to him, Teacher, Moses has told us, If a man die without sons, let his brother take his wife, and raise up offspring for his brother.

25 Now1161 there were with us seven2033 brothers:80 and the first,4413 when he had married1060 a wife, deceased,5053 and, having2192 no3361 issue,4690 left863 his wife1135 to his brother:80

25 Now there were with us seven brothers; the first married and died, and because he had no sons, he left his wife to his brother.

26 Likewise3668 the second1208 also,2532 and the third,5154 to the seventh.2035

26 Likewise the second, also the third, up to the seventh.

27 And last5305 of all3956 the woman1135 died599 also.2532

27 And after them all the woman also died.

28 Therefore3767 in the resurrection386 whose5101 wife1135 shall she be of the seven?2033 for they all3956 had2192 her.

28 Therefore at the resurrection, to which of these seven will she be a wife? for they all married her.

29 Jesus2424 answered611 and said2036 to them, You do err,4105 not knowing1492 the scriptures,1124 nor3366 the power1411 of God.2316

29 Jesus answered, and said to them, You err, because you do not understand the scriptures nor the power of God.

30 For in the resurrection386 they neither3777 marry,1060 nor3777 are given1547 in marriage,1548 but are as the angels32 of God2316 in heaven.3772

30 For at the resurrection of the dead, they neither marry women, nor are women given to men in marriage, but they are like the angels of God in heaven.

31 But as touching4012 the resurrection386 of the dead,3498 have you not read314 that which3588 was spoken4483 to you by God,2316 saying,3004

31 But concerning the resurrection of the dead, have you not read what was said to you by God, saying,

32 I am1510 the God2316 of Abraham,11 and the God2316 of Isaac,2464 and the God2316 of Jacob?2384 God2316 is not the God2316 of the dead,3498 but of the living.2198

32 I am the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, the God of Jacob? And yet God is not the God of the dead, but of the living.

33 And when the multitude3793 heard191 this, they were astonished1605 at1909 his doctrine.1322

33 And when the people heard it, they were amazed at his teaching.

34 But when the Pharisees5330 had heard191 that he had put the Sadducees4523 to silence,5392 they were gathered4863 together.1909

34 But when the Pharisees heard that he had silenced the Sadducees, they gathered together.

35 Then2532 one1520 of them, which was a lawyer,3544 asked1905 him a question, tempting3985 him, and saying,3004

35 And one of them who knew the law, asked him, testing him,

36 Master,1320 which4169 is the great3173 commandment1785 in the law?3551

36 Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the law?

37 Jesus2424 said2036 to him, You shall love25 the Lord2962 your God2316 with all3650 your heart,2588 and with all3650 your soul,5590 and with all3650 your mind.1271

37 Jesus said to him, Love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your power, and with all your mind.

38 This3778 is the first4413 and great3173 commandment.1785

38 This is the greatest and the first commandment.

39 And the second1208 is like3664 to it, You shall love25 your neighbor4139 as yourself.4572

39 And the second is like to it, Love your neighbor as yourself.

40 On1722 these5025 two1417 commandments1785 hang2910 all3650 the law3551 and the prophets.4396

40 On these two commandments hang the law and the prophets.

41 While the Pharisees5330 were gathered4863 together,4863 Jesus2424 asked1905 them,

41 While the Pharisees were gathered together, Jesus asked them,

42 Saying,3004 What5101 think1380 you of Christ?5547 whose5101 son5207 is he? They say3004 to him, The son of David.1138

42 And he said, What do you say concerning the Christ? whose son is he? They said to him, son of David.

43 He said3004 to them, How4459 then3767 does David1138 in spirit4151 call2564 him Lord,2962 saying,3004

43 He said to them, How is it then that David through the Spirit calls him Lord? For he said,

44 The LORD2962 said2036 to my Lord,2962 Sit2521 you on1537 my right1188 hand, till2193 I make5087 your4675 enemies2190 your footstool?5286 4228

44 The Lord said to my Lord, Sit at my right hand, until I put your enemies under your feet.

45 If1487 David1138 then3767 call2564 him Lord,2962 how4459 is he his son?5207

45 If David then calls him Lord, how can he be his son?

46 And no3762 man3762 was able1410 to answer611 him a word,3056 neither3761 dared5111 any5100 man from that day2250 forth ask1905 him any3765 more3765 questions.

46 And no man was able to answer him, and from that day no man dared to question him.
