Chapter 28
And when they were escaped,1295 then5119 they knew1921 that the island3520 was called2564 Melita.3194
And the barbarous915 people showed3930 us no3756 little5177 kindness:5368 for they kindled381 a fire,4443 and received4355 us every3956 one, because1223 of the present2186 rain,5205 and because1223 of the cold.5592
And when Paul3972 had gathered4962 a bundle4128 of sticks,5434 and laid2007 them on1909 the fire,4443 there came1831 a viper2191 out of the heat,2329 and fastened2510 on2510 his hand.5495
And when5613 the barbarians915 saw1492 the venomous beast2342 hang2910 on1537 his hand,5495 they said3004 among4314 themselves,846 No doubt3843 this3778 man444 is a murderer,5406 whom,3739 though he has escaped1295 the sea,2281 yet vengeance1349 suffers1439 not to live.2198
And he shook660 off660 the beast2342 into1519 the fire,4442 and felt3958 no3762 harm.2556
However, they looked4328 when he should3195 have swollen,4092 or2228 fallen2667 down2667 dead3498 suddenly:869 but after they had looked4328 a great4183 while, and saw2334 no3367 harm824 come1096 to him, they changed3328 their minds, and said3004 that he was a god.2316
In the same1565 quarters5117 were possessions5564 of the chief4413 man of the island,3520 whose name3686 was Publius;4196 who3739 received324 us, and lodged3579 us three5140 days2250 courteously.5390
And it came1096 to pass, that the father3962 of Publius4196 lay2621 sick of a fever4446 and of a bloody1420 flux:1420 to whom3739 Paul3972 entered1525 in, and prayed,4336 and laid2007 his hands5495 on2007 him, and healed2390 him.
So3767 when this5127 was done,1096 others3062 also,2532 which3588 had2192 diseases769 in the island,3520 came,4334 and were healed:2323
Who3739 also2532 honored5092 us with many4183 honors;5091 and when we departed,321 they laded2007 us with such things as were necessary.4314
And after3326 three5140 months3376 we departed321 in a ship4143 of Alexandria,221 which had wintered3914 in the isle,3520 whose sign3902 was Castor1359 and Pollux.1359
And landing2609 at1519 Syracuse,4946 we tarried1961 there three5140 days.2250
And from there3606 we fetched a compass,4022 and came2658 to Rhegium:4484 and after3326 one3391 day2250 the south3558 wind blew,1920 and we came2064 the next1206 day to Puteoli:4223
Where3757 we found2147 brothers,80 and were desired3870 to tarry1961 with them seven2033 days:2250 and so3779 we went2064 toward1519 Rome.4516
And from there,1564 when the brothers80 heard191 of us, they came1831 to meet529 us as far891 as Appii675 forum,5410 and The three5140 taverns:4999 whom3739 when Paul3972 saw,1492 he thanked2168 God,2316 and took2983 courage.2294
And when3753 we came2064 to Rome,4516 the centurion1543 delivered3860 the prisoners1198 to the captain4759 of the guard:4759 but Paul3972 was suffered2010 to dwell3306 by himself1438 with a soldier4757 that kept5442 him.
And it came1096 to pass, that after3326 three5140 days2250 Paul3972 called4779 the chief4413 of the Jews2453 together:4779 and when they were come4905 together,4905 he said3004 to them, Men435 and brothers,80 though I have committed4160 nothing3762 against1727 the people,2992 or2228 customs1485 of our fathers,3971 yet was I delivered3860 prisoner1198 from Jerusalem2414 into1519 the hands5495 of the Romans.4514
Who,3748 when they had examined350 me, would have let630 me go,630 because1223 there was no3367 cause156 of death2288 in me.
But when the Jews2453 spoke483 against483 it, I was constrained315 to appeal1941 to Caesar;2541 not that I had2192 ought5100 to accuse2723 my nation1484 of.
For this5026 cause156 therefore3767 have I called3870 for you, to see1492 you, and to speak4354 with you: because1063 that for the hope1680 of Israel2474 I am bound4029 with this5026 chain.254
And they said2036 to him, We neither3777 received1209 letters1121 out of Judaea2449 concerning4012 you, neither3777 any5100 of the brothers80 that came3854 showed518 or2228 spoke2980 any5100 harm4190 of you.
But we desire515 to hear191 of you what3739 you think:5426 for as concerning4012 this5026 sect,139 we know1110 that every3837 where3837 it is spoken483 against.483
And when they had appointed5021 him a day,2250 there came2240 many4119 to him into1519 his lodging;3578 to whom3739 he expounded1620 and testified1263 the kingdom932 of God,2316 persuading3982 them concerning4012 Jesus,2424 both5037 out of the law3551 of Moses,3475 and out of the prophets,4396 from morning4404 till2193 evening.2073
And some3588 3303 believed3982 the things which were spoken,3004 and some3588 believed not.
And when they agreed800 not among4314 themselves,846 they departed,630 after that Paul3972 had spoken2036 one1520 word,4487 Well2573 spoke2980 the Holy40 Ghost4151 by Esaias2268 the prophet4396 to our fathers,3962
Saying,3004 Go4198 to this5126 people,2992 and say,2036 Hearing189 you shall hear,191 and shall not understand;4920 and seeing991 you shall see,991 and not perceive:1492
For the heart2588 of this5127 people2992 is waxed3975 gross,3975 and their ears3775 are dull917 of hearing,191 and their eyes3788 have they closed;2576 lest3379 they should see1492 with their eyes,3788 and hear191 with their ears,3775 and understand4920 with their heart,2588 and should be converted,1994 and I should heal2392 them.
Be it known1110 therefore3767 to you, that the salvation4992 of God2316 is sent649 to the Gentiles,1484 and that they will hear191 it.
And when he had said2036 these5023 words, the Jews2453 departed,565 and had2192 great4183 reasoning4803 among1722 themselves.1438
And Paul3972 dwelled3306 two1333 whole3650 years1333 in his own2398 hired3410 house, and received588 all3956 that came1531 in to him,
Preaching2784 the kingdom932 of God,2316 and teaching1321 those3588 things which concern4012 the Lord2962 Jesus2424 Christ,5547 with all3956 confidence,3954 no209 man forbidding209 him.
