Ezekiel

Chapter 33

1 Again the word1697 of the LORD3068 came1961 unto413 me, saying,559

2 Son1121 of man,120 speak1696 to413 the children1121 of thy people,5971 and say559 unto413 them, When3588 I bring935 the sword2719 upon5921 a land,776 if the people5971 of the land776 take3947 a259 man376 of their coasts,4480 7097 and set5414 him for their watchman: 6822

3 If when he seeth7200 853 the sword2719 come935 upon5921 the land,776 he blow8628 the trumpet,7782 and warn2094 853 the people;5971

4 Then whosoever heareth8085 8085 853 the sound6963 of the trumpet,7782 and taketh not warning;2094 3808 if the sword2719 come,935 and take him away,3947 his blood1818 shall be1961 upon his own head.7218

5 He heard8085 853 the sound6963 of the trumpet,7782 and took not warning;2094 3808 his blood1818 shall be1961 upon him. But he1931 that taketh warning2094 shall deliver4422 his soul.5315

6 But if3588 the watchman6822 see7200 853 the sword2719 come,935 and blow8628 not3808 the trumpet,7782 and the people5971 be not3808 warned;2094 if the sword2719 come,935 and take3947 any person5315 from among4480 them, he1931 is taken away3947 in his iniquity;5771 but his blood1818 will I require1875 at the watchman's6822 hand.4480 3027

7 So thou,859 O son1121 of man,120 I have set5414 thee a watchman6822 unto the house1004 of Israel;3478 therefore thou shalt hear8085 the word1697 at my mouth,4480 6310 and warn2094 them from4480 me.

8 When I say559 unto the wicked,7563 O wicked7563 man, thou shalt surely die;4191 4191 if thou dost not3808 speak1696 to warn2094 the wicked7563 from his way,4480 1870 that1931 wicked7563 man shall die4191 in his iniquity;5771 but his blood1818 will I require1245 at thine hand.4480 3027

9 Nevertheless, if3588 thou859 warn2094 the wicked7563 of his way4480 1870 to turn7725 from4480 it; if he do not3808 turn7725 from his way,4480 1870 he1931 shall die4191 in his iniquity;5771 but thou859 hast delivered5337 thy soul.5315

10 Therefore, O thou859 son1121 of man,120 speak559 unto413 the house1004 of Israel;3478 Thus3651 ye speak,559 saying,559 If3588 our transgressions6588 and our sins2403 be upon5921 us, and we587 pine away4743 in them, how349 should we then live?2421

11 Say559 unto413 them, As I589 live,2416 saith5002 the Lord136 GOD,3069 I have no pleasure518 2654 in the death4194 of the wicked;7563 but3588 518 that the wicked7563 turn7725 from his way4480 1870 and live:2421 turn7725 ye, turn7725 ye from your evil7451 ways;4480 1870 for why4100 will ye die,4191 O house1004 of Israel?3478

12 Therefore, thou859 son1121 of man,120 say559 unto413 the children1121 of thy people,5971 The righteousness6666 of the righteous6662 shall not3808 deliver5337 him in the day3117 of his transgression:6588 as for the wickedness7564 of the wicked,7563 he shall not3808 fall3782 thereby in the day3117 that he turneth7725 from his wickedness;4480 7562 neither3808 shall the righteous6662 be able3201 to live2421 for his righteousness in the day3117 that he sinneth.2398

13 When I shall say559 to the righteous,6662 that he shall surely live;2421 2421 if he1931 trust982 to5921 his own righteousness,6666 and commit6213 iniquity,5766 all3605 his righteousnesses6666 shall not3808 be remembered;2142 but for his iniquity5766 that834 he hath committed,6213 he shall die4191 for it.

14 Again, when I say559 unto the wicked,7563 Thou shalt surely die;4191 4191 if he turn7725 from his sin,4480 2403 and do6213 that which is lawful4941 and right;6666

15 If the wicked7563 restore7725 the pledge,2258 give again7999 that he had robbed,1500 walk1980 in the statutes2708 of life,2416 without1115 committing6213 iniquity;5766 he shall surely live,2421 2421 he shall not3808 die.4191

16 None3808 3605 of his sins2403 that834 he hath committed2398 shall be mentioned2142 unto him: he hath done6213 that which is lawful4941 and right;6666 he shall surely live.2421 2421

17 Yet the children1121 of thy people5971 say,559 The way1870 of the Lord136 is not equal:8505 3808 but as for them,1992 their way1870 is not equal.8505 3808

18 When the righteous6662 turneth7725 from his righteousness,4480 6666 and committeth6213 iniquity,5766 he shall even die4191 thereby.

19 But if the wicked7563 turn7725 from his wickedness,4480 7564 and do6213 that which is lawful4941 and right,6666 he1931 shall live2421 thereby.5921

20 Yet ye say,559 The way1870 of the Lord136 is not equal.8505 3808 O ye house1004 of Israel,3478 I will judge8199 you every one376 after his ways.1870

21 And it came to pass1961 in the twelfth8147 6240 year8141 of our captivity,1546 in the tenth6224 month, in the fifth2568 day of the month,2320 that one that had escaped6412 out of Jerusalem4480 3389 came935 unto413 me, saying,559 The city5892 is smitten.5221

22 Now the hand3027 of the LORD3068 was1961 upon413 me in the evening,6153 before6440 he that was escaped6412 came;935 and had opened6605 853 my mouth,6310 until5704 he came935 to413 me in the morning;1242 and my mouth6310 was opened,6605 and I was no more dumb.481 3808 5750

23 Then the word1697 of the LORD3068 came1961 unto413 me, saying,559

24 Son1121 of man,120 they that inhabit3427 those428 wastes2723 of5921 the land127 of Israel3478 speak,559 saying,559 Abraham85 was1961 one,259 and he inherited3423 853 the land:776 but we587 are many;7227 the land776 is given5414 us for inheritance.4181

25 Wherefore3651 say559 unto413 them, Thus3541 saith559 the Lord136 GOD;3069 Ye eat398 with5921 the blood,1818 and lift up5375 your eyes5869 toward413 your idols,1544 and shed8210 blood:1818 and shall ye possess3423 the land?776

26 Ye stand5975 upon5921 your sword,2719 ye work6213 abomination,8441 and ye defile2930 every one376 853 his neighbor's7453 wife:802 and shall ye possess3423 the land?776

27 Say559 thou thus3541 unto413 them, Thus3541 saith559 the Lord136 GOD;3069 As I589 live,2416 surely518 3808 they that834 are in the wastes2723 shall fall5307 by the sword,2719 and him that834 is in5921 the open6440 field7704 will I give5414 to the beasts2416 to be devoured,398 and they that834 be in the forts4679 and in the caves4631 shall die4191 of the pestilence.1698

28 For I will lay5414 853 the land776 most desolate,8077 4923 and the pomp1347 of her strength5797 shall cease;7673 and the mountains2022 of Israel3478 shall be desolate,8074 that none4480 369 shall pass through.5674

29 Then shall they know3045 that3588 I589 am the LORD,3068 when I have laid5414 853 the land776 most desolate8077 4923 because of5921 all3605 their abominations8441 which834 they have committed.6213

30 Also, thou859 son1121 of man,120 the children1121 of thy people5971 still are talking1696 against thee by681 the walls7023 and in the doors6607 of the houses,1004 and speak1696 one2297 to854 another,259 every one376 to854 his brother,251 saying,559 Come,935 I pray you,4994 and hear8085 what4100 is the word1697 that cometh forth3318 from4480 854 the LORD.3068

31 And they come935 unto413 thee as the people5971 cometh,3996 and they sit3427 before6440 thee as my people,5971 and they hear8085 853 thy words,1697 but they will not3808 do6213 them: for3588 with their mouth6310 they1992 show6213 much love,5690 but their heart3820 goeth1980 after310 their covetousness.1215

32 And, lo,2009 thou art unto them as a very lovely5690 song7892 of one that hath a pleasant3303 voice,6963 and can play well on an instrument:5059 3190 for they hear8085 853 thy words,1697 but they do6213 them not.369

33 And when this cometh to pass,935 (lo,2009 it will come,)935 then shall they know3045 that3588 a prophet5030 hath been1961 among8432 them.

Ezekiel

Chapter 33

1 AND the word of the LORD came to me, saying,

2 Son of man, speak to your own people and say to them, When I bring the sword upon a land, let the people of the land take a man from among them and make him their watchman.

3 And when he sees the sword coming upon them, he shall blow the trumpet and warn the people;

4 Then whosoever hears the sound of the trumpet and does not heed the warning, if the sword should come and take his life away, his blood shall be upon his own head.

5 But if he should take heed, he shall deliver his life.

6 But when the watchman sees the sword coming and does not blow the trumpet and does not warn the people, and the sword comes and takes the life from among them, that life is taken away in his iniquity; but I will require his blood at the watchman's hand.

7 So you, O Son of man, I have set you a watchman to the house of Israel: therefore you shall hear the word from my mouth, you shall warn them from me.

8 When I say to the wicked, O wicked man, you shall surely die; and you do not speak to the wicked man that he may take heed from his evil way, that wicked man shall die in his iniquity; but his blood I will require at your hands.

9 Nevertheless, if you warn the wicked that he may turn from his evil way; and if he does not turn from his evil way, he shall die in his iniquity; but you have delivered your soul.

10 You therefore, O Son of man, say to the house of Israel. Thus have you spoken, saying, Our iniquity and our sins be upon us, and we are pining away in them; how can we live?

11 Say to them, As I live, says the LORD God, I do not desire the death of the wicked; but that the wicked should turn from his evil way and live; therefore you must repent and turn from your evil ways, and you shall not die, O house of Israel.

12 Therefore, Son of man, say to your own people, The righteousness of the righteous shall not deliver him in the day that he sins; as for the iniquity of the wicked, he shall not fall by it in the day when he turns from his wickedness; neither shall the righteous be able to live because of his righteousness in the day that he sins.

13 When I shall say to the righteous that he shall surely live, and he trusts in his own righteousness and then commits iniquity, all his righteousness which he had done shall not be remembered to him; but for the iniquity which he has committed, he shall die.

14 Again, when I say to the wicked, You shall surely die, and he turns from his sins and does that which is just and right,

15 And he shall restore the pledge which he has taken and return what he has acquired unjustly and walk in the commandments of life, without committing iniquity; he shall surely live, he shall not die.

16 None of his sins which he has committed shall be remembered to him; but by the justice and righteousness which he has done, he shall surely live.

17 Yet your people say, The way of the LORD is not fair; but it is their own ways that are not fair.

18 When a righteous man turns from his righteousness and commits iniquity, he shall die in his iniquity.

19 And when a wicked man turns from his wickedness and does that which is just and right, he shall live thereby.

20 Yet you say, The way of the LORD is not fair; O house of Israel, I will judge every one of you according to his ways.

21 And it came to pass in the eleventh year of our captivity, in the tenth month, on the fifth day of the month, that one who had escaped from Jerusalem came and said to me, The city has been destroyed.

22 Now the hand of the LORD had been upon me in the evening, before he who had escaped came; and had opened my mouth, until he came to me in the morning; and my mouth was opened and I was dumb no more.

23 Then the word of the LORD came to me, saying,

24 Son of man, those who inhabit these waste places of the land of Israel are saying, Abraham was only one man, and yet he inherited the land; but we are many; are we not going to inherit it?

25 Therefore say to them, Thus says the LORD God: Because you eat meat with the blood and lift up your eyes toward your idols and drink blood, do you expect to inherit the land?

26 You rely on your swords, you commit abomination, and you defile every one his neighbor's wife; and do you expect to inherit the land?

27 Say to them, Thus says the LORD God: As I live, all of those who dwell in the waste places shall fall by the sword; and he that is in the open field, I will give to the wild beasts to be devoured, and those who are in the forts and in the caves shall die of the pestilence.

28 For I will lay the land desolate and waste, and the pomp of her strength shall cease; and the mountains of Israel shall be desolate, that none shall pass through.

29 Then shall they know that I am the LORD, when I have laid the land desolate and waste because of their abominations which they have committed.

30 And as for you, O Son of man, your people are gossiping about you by the walls and in the doors of the houses, and speak one to another, every one to his brother, saying, Come and hear what is the word that comes forth from the LORD.

31 And the people come to you and sit before you, and they hear your words, but they will not do them, because their mouths are full of falsehood and they follow after the thoughts of their own hearts.

32 And, lo, you are to them like a song and like a pleasant voice and like the sweet sound of a harp; for they hear your words, but they do them not.

33 And when your words shall come to pass, then they shall know that you are a prophet among them.

Chapter 33

1 Again the word1697 of the LORD3068 came1961 unto413 me, saying,559

1 AND the word of the LORD came to me, saying,

2 Son1121 of man,120 speak1696 to413 the children1121 of thy people,5971 and say559 unto413 them, When3588 I bring935 the sword2719 upon5921 a land,776 if the people5971 of the land776 take3947 a259 man376 of their coasts,4480 7097 and set5414 him for their watchman: 6822

2 Son of man, speak to your own people and say to them, When I bring the sword upon a land, let the people of the land take a man from among them and make him their watchman.

3 If when he seeth7200 853 the sword2719 come935 upon5921 the land,776 he blow8628 the trumpet,7782 and warn2094 853 the people;5971

3 And when he sees the sword coming upon them, he shall blow the trumpet and warn the people;

4 Then whosoever heareth8085 8085 853 the sound6963 of the trumpet,7782 and taketh not warning;2094 3808 if the sword2719 come,935 and take him away,3947 his blood1818 shall be1961 upon his own head.7218

4 Then whosoever hears the sound of the trumpet and does not heed the warning, if the sword should come and take his life away, his blood shall be upon his own head.

5 He heard8085 853 the sound6963 of the trumpet,7782 and took not warning;2094 3808 his blood1818 shall be1961 upon him. But he1931 that taketh warning2094 shall deliver4422 his soul.5315

5 But if he should take heed, he shall deliver his life.

6 But when the watchman sees the sword coming and does not blow the trumpet and does not warn the people, and the sword comes and takes the life from among them, that life is taken away in his iniquity; but I will require his blood at the watchman's hand.

7 So thou,859 O son1121 of man,120 I have set5414 thee a watchman6822 unto the house1004 of Israel;3478 therefore thou shalt hear8085 the word1697 at my mouth,4480 6310 and warn2094 them from4480 me.

7 So you, O Son of man, I have set you a watchman to the house of Israel: therefore you shall hear the word from my mouth, you shall warn them from me.

8 When I say to the wicked, O wicked man, you shall surely die; and you do not speak to the wicked man that he may take heed from his evil way, that wicked man shall die in his iniquity; but his blood I will require at your hands.

9 Nevertheless, if you warn the wicked that he may turn from his evil way; and if he does not turn from his evil way, he shall die in his iniquity; but you have delivered your soul.

10 You therefore, O Son of man, say to the house of Israel. Thus have you spoken, saying, Our iniquity and our sins be upon us, and we are pining away in them; how can we live?

11 Say559 unto413 them, As I589 live,2416 saith5002 the Lord136 GOD,3069 I have no pleasure518 2654 in the death4194 of the wicked;7563 but3588 518 that the wicked7563 turn7725 from his way4480 1870 and live:2421 turn7725 ye, turn7725 ye from your evil7451 ways;4480 1870 for why4100 will ye die,4191 O house1004 of Israel?3478

11 Say to them, As I live, says the LORD God, I do not desire the death of the wicked; but that the wicked should turn from his evil way and live; therefore you must repent and turn from your evil ways, and you shall not die, O house of Israel.

13 When I shall say to the righteous that he shall surely live, and he trusts in his own righteousness and then commits iniquity, all his righteousness which he had done shall not be remembered to him; but for the iniquity which he has committed, he shall die.

14 Again, when I say559 unto the wicked,7563 Thou shalt surely die;4191 4191 if he turn7725 from his sin,4480 2403 and do6213 that which is lawful4941 and right;6666

14 Again, when I say to the wicked, You shall surely die, and he turns from his sins and does that which is just and right,

15 If the wicked7563 restore7725 the pledge,2258 give again7999 that he had robbed,1500 walk1980 in the statutes2708 of life,2416 without1115 committing6213 iniquity;5766 he shall surely live,2421 2421 he shall not3808 die.4191

15 And he shall restore the pledge which he has taken and return what he has acquired unjustly and walk in the commandments of life, without committing iniquity; he shall surely live, he shall not die.

16 None3808 3605 of his sins2403 that834 he hath committed2398 shall be mentioned2142 unto him: he hath done6213 that which is lawful4941 and right;6666 he shall surely live.2421 2421

16 None of his sins which he has committed shall be remembered to him; but by the justice and righteousness which he has done, he shall surely live.

17 Yet the children1121 of thy people5971 say,559 The way1870 of the Lord136 is not equal:8505 3808 but as for them,1992 their way1870 is not equal.8505 3808

17 Yet your people say, The way of the LORD is not fair; but it is their own ways that are not fair.

18 When the righteous6662 turneth7725 from his righteousness,4480 6666 and committeth6213 iniquity,5766 he shall even die4191 thereby.

18 When a righteous man turns from his righteousness and commits iniquity, he shall die in his iniquity.

19 But if the wicked7563 turn7725 from his wickedness,4480 7564 and do6213 that which is lawful4941 and right,6666 he1931 shall live2421 thereby.5921

19 And when a wicked man turns from his wickedness and does that which is just and right, he shall live thereby.

20 Yet ye say,559 The way1870 of the Lord136 is not equal.8505 3808 O ye house1004 of Israel,3478 I will judge8199 you every one376 after his ways.1870

20 Yet you say, The way of the LORD is not fair; O house of Israel, I will judge every one of you according to his ways.

21 And it came to pass in the eleventh year of our captivity, in the tenth month, on the fifth day of the month, that one who had escaped from Jerusalem came and said to me, The city has been destroyed.

22 Now the hand of the LORD had been upon me in the evening, before he who had escaped came; and had opened my mouth, until he came to me in the morning; and my mouth was opened and I was dumb no more.

23 Then the word1697 of the LORD3068 came1961 unto413 me, saying,559

23 Then the word of the LORD came to me, saying,

24 Son1121 of man,120 they that inhabit3427 those428 wastes2723 of5921 the land127 of Israel3478 speak,559 saying,559 Abraham85 was1961 one,259 and he inherited3423 853 the land:776 but we587 are many;7227 the land776 is given5414 us for inheritance.4181

24 Son of man, those who inhabit these waste places of the land of Israel are saying, Abraham was only one man, and yet he inherited the land; but we are many; are we not going to inherit it?

25 Wherefore3651 say559 unto413 them, Thus3541 saith559 the Lord136 GOD;3069 Ye eat398 with5921 the blood,1818 and lift up5375 your eyes5869 toward413 your idols,1544 and shed8210 blood:1818 and shall ye possess3423 the land?776

25 Therefore say to them, Thus says the LORD God: Because you eat meat with the blood and lift up your eyes toward your idols and drink blood, do you expect to inherit the land?

26 Ye stand5975 upon5921 your sword,2719 ye work6213 abomination,8441 and ye defile2930 every one376 853 his neighbor's7453 wife:802 and shall ye possess3423 the land?776

26 You rely on your swords, you commit abomination, and you defile every one his neighbor's wife; and do you expect to inherit the land?

27 Say559 thou thus3541 unto413 them, Thus3541 saith559 the Lord136 GOD;3069 As I589 live,2416 surely518 3808 they that834 are in the wastes2723 shall fall5307 by the sword,2719 and him that834 is in5921 the open6440 field7704 will I give5414 to the beasts2416 to be devoured,398 and they that834 be in the forts4679 and in the caves4631 shall die4191 of the pestilence.1698

27 Say to them, Thus says the LORD God: As I live, all of those who dwell in the waste places shall fall by the sword; and he that is in the open field, I will give to the wild beasts to be devoured, and those who are in the forts and in the caves shall die of the pestilence.

28 For I will lay5414 853 the land776 most desolate,8077 4923 and the pomp1347 of her strength5797 shall cease;7673 and the mountains2022 of Israel3478 shall be desolate,8074 that none4480 369 shall pass through.5674

28 For I will lay the land desolate and waste, and the pomp of her strength shall cease; and the mountains of Israel shall be desolate, that none shall pass through.

29 Then shall they know3045 that3588 I589 am the LORD,3068 when I have laid5414 853 the land776 most desolate8077 4923 because of5921 all3605 their abominations8441 which834 they have committed.6213

29 Then shall they know that I am the LORD, when I have laid the land desolate and waste because of their abominations which they have committed.

30 And as for you, O Son of man, your people are gossiping about you by the walls and in the doors of the houses, and speak one to another, every one to his brother, saying, Come and hear what is the word that comes forth from the LORD.

31 And the people come to you and sit before you, and they hear your words, but they will not do them, because their mouths are full of falsehood and they follow after the thoughts of their own hearts.

32 And, lo,2009 thou art unto them as a very lovely5690 song7892 of one that hath a pleasant3303 voice,6963 and can play well on an instrument:5059 3190 for they hear8085 853 thy words,1697 but they do6213 them not.369

32 And, lo, you are to them like a song and like a pleasant voice and like the sweet sound of a harp; for they hear your words, but they do them not.

33 And when this cometh to pass,935 (lo,2009 it will come,)935 then shall they know3045 that3588 a prophet5030 hath been1961 among8432 them.

33 And when your words shall come to pass, then they shall know that you are a prophet among them.
