2 That they feared3372 greatly,3966 because3588 Gibeon1391 was a great1419 city,5892 as one259 of the royal4467 cities,5892 and because3588 it1931 was greater1419 than4480 Ai,5857 and all3605 the men376 thereof were mighty.1368

3 Wherefore Adoni-zedek139 king4428 of Jerusalem3389 sent7971 unto413 Hoham1944 king4428 of Hebron,2275 and unto413 Piram6502 king4428 of Jarmuth,3412 and unto413 Japhia3309 king4428 of Lachish,3923 and unto413 Debir1688 king4428 of Eglon,5700 saying,559

4 Come up5927 unto413 me, and help5826 me, that we may smite5221 853 Gibeon:1391 for3588 it hath made peace7999 with854 Joshua3091 and with854 the children1121 of Israel.3478

5 Therefore the five2568 kings4428 of the Amorites,567 the king4428 of Jerusalem,3389 the king4428 of Hebron,2275 the king4428 of Jarmuth,3412 the king4428 of Lachish,3923 the king4428 of Eglon,5700 gathered themselves together,622 and went up,5927 they1992 and all3605 their hosts,4264 and encamped2583 before5921 Gibeon,1391 and made war3898 against5921 it.

6 And the men376 of Gibeon1391 sent7971 unto413 Joshua3091 to413 the camp4264 to Gilgal,1537 saying,559 Slack7503 not408 thy hand3027 from thy servants;4480 5650 come up5927 to413 us quickly,4120 and save3467 us, and help5826 us: for3588 all3605 the kings4428 of the Amorites567 that dwell3427 in the mountains2022 are gathered together6908 against413 us.

7 So Joshua3091 ascended5927 from4480 Gilgal,1537 he,1931 and all3605 the people5971 of war4421 with5973 him, and all3605 the mighty men1368 of valor.2428

8 And the LORD3068 said559 unto413 Joshua,3091 Fear3372 them not:408 for3588 I have delivered5414 them into thine hand;3027 there shall not3808 a man376 of4480 them stand5975 before6440 thee.

11 And it came to pass,1961 as they fled5127 from before4480 6440 Israel,3478 and were in the going down4174 to Beth-horon,1032 that the LORD3068 cast down7993 great1419 stones68 from4480 heaven8064 upon5921 them unto5704 Azekah,5825 and they died:4191 they were more7227 which834 died4191 with hailstones1259 68 than they whom4480 834 the children1121 of Israel3478 slew2026 with the sword.2719

12 Then227 spoke1696 Joshua3091 to the LORD3068 in the day3117 when the LORD3068 delivered up5414 853 the Amorites567 before6440 the children1121 of Israel,3478 and he said559 in the sight5869 of Israel,3478 Sun,8121 stand thou still1826 upon Gibeon;1391 and thou, Moon,3394 in the valley6010 of Ajalon.357

13 And the sun8121 stood still,1826 and the moon3394 stayed,5975 until5704 the people1471 had avenged5358 themselves upon their enemies.341 Is not3808 this1931 written3789 in5921 the book5612 of Jasher?3477 So the sun8121 stood5975 still in the midst2677 of heaven,8064 and hasted213 not3808 to go down935 about a whole8549 day.3117

14 And there was1961 no3808 day3117 like that1931 before6440 it or after310 it, that the LORD3068 hearkened8085 unto the voice6963 of a man:376 for3588 the LORD3068 fought3898 for Israel.3478

15 And Joshua3091 returned,7725 and all3605 Israel3478 with5973 him, unto413 the camp4264 to Gilgal.1537

16 But these428 five2568 kings4428 fled,5127 and hid themselves2244 in a cave4631 at Makkedah.4719

17 And it was told5046 Joshua,3091 saying,559 The five2568 kings4428 are found4672 hid2244 in a cave4631 at Makkedah.4719

18 And Joshua3091 said,559 Roll1556 great1419 stones68 upon413 the mouth6310 of the cave,4631 and set6485 men376 by5921 it for to keep8104 them:

19 And stay5975 ye859 not,408 but pursue7291 after310 your enemies,341 and smite the hindmost2179 of them; suffer5414 them not408 to enter935 into413 their cities:5892 for3588 the LORD3068 your God430 hath delivered5414 them into your hand.3027

20 And it came to pass,1961 when Joshua3091 and the children1121 of Israel3478 had made an end3615 of slaying5221 them with a very3966 great1419 slaughter,4347 till5704 they were consumed,8552 that the rest8300 which remained8277 of4480 them entered935 into413 fenced4013 cities.5892

21 And all3605 the people5971 returned7725 to413 the camp4264 to413 Joshua3091 at Makkedah4719 in peace:7965 none3808 moved2782 853 his tongue3956 against any376 of the children1121 of Israel.3478

22 Then said559 Joshua,3091 Open6605 853 the mouth6310 of the cave,4631 and bring out3318 853 those428 five2568 kings4428 unto413 me out of4480 the cave.4631

23 And they did6213 so,3651 and brought forth3318 853 those428 five2568 kings4428 unto413 him out of4480 the cave,4631 853 the king4428 of Jerusalem,3389 853 the king4428 of Hebron,2275 853 the king4428 of Jarmuth,3412 853 the king4428 of Lachish,3923 and853 the king4428 of Eglon.5700

28 And that1931 day3117 Joshua3091 took3920 Makkedah,4719 and smote5221 it with the edge6310 of the sword,2719 and the king4428 thereof he utterly destroyed2763 them, and all3605 the souls5315 that834 were therein; he let7604 none3808 remain:8300 and he did6213 to the king4428 of Makkedah4719 as834 he did6213 unto the king4428 of Jericho.3405

30 And the LORD3068 delivered5414 it also,1571 and the king4428 thereof, into the hand3027 of Israel;3478 and he smote5221 it with the edge6310 of the sword,2719 and all3605 the souls5315 that834 were therein; he let7604 none3808 remain8300 in it; but did6213 unto the king4428 thereof as834 he did6213 unto the king4428 of Jericho.3405

31 And Joshua3091 passed5674 from Libnah,4480 3841 and all3605 Israel3478 with5973 him, unto Lachish,3923 and encamped2583 against5921 it, and fought3898 against it:

32 And the LORD3068 delivered5414 853 Lachish3923 into the hand3027 of Israel,3478 which took3920 it on the second8145 day,3117 and smote5221 it with the edge6310 of the sword,2719 and all3605 the souls5315 that834 were therein, according to all3605 that834 he had done6213 to Libnah.3841

33 Then227 Horam2036 king4428 of Gezer1507 came up5927 to help5826 853 Lachish;3923 and Joshua3091 smote5221 him and his people,5971 until5704 he had left7604 him none1115 remaining.8300

34 And from Lachish4480 3923 Joshua3091 passed5674 unto Eglon,5700 and all3605 Israel3478 with5973 him; and they encamped2583 against5921 it, and fought3898 against5921 it:

35 And they took3920 it on that1931 day,3117 and smote5221 it with the edge6310 of the sword,2719 and all3605 the souls5315 that834 were therein he utterly destroyed2763 that1931 day,3117 according to all3605 that834 he had done6213 to Lachish.3923

36 And Joshua3091 went up5927 from Eglon,4480 5700 and all3605 Israel3478 with5973 him, unto Hebron;2275 and they fought3898 against5921 it:

37 And they took3920 it, and smote5221 it with the edge6310 of the sword,2719 and the king4428 thereof, and all3605 the cities5892 thereof, and all3605 the souls5315 that834 were therein; he left7604 none3808 remaining,8300 according to all3605 that834 he had done6213 to Eglon;5700 but destroyed2763 it utterly, and all3605 the souls5315 that834 were therein.

38 And Joshua3091 returned,7725 and all3605 Israel3478 with5973 him, to Debir;1688 and fought3898 against5921 it:

39 And he took3920 it, and the king4428 thereof, and all3605 the cities5892 thereof; and they smote5221 them with the edge6310 of the sword,2719 and utterly destroyed2763 853 all3605 the souls5315 that834 were therein; he left7604 none3808 remaining:8300 as834 he had done6213 to Hebron,2275 so3651 he did6213 to Debir,1688 and to the king4428 thereof; as834 he had done6213 also to Libnah,3841 and to her king.4428

40 So Joshua3091 smote5221 853 all3605 the country776 of the hills,2022 and of the south,5045 and of the vale,8219 and of the springs,794 and all3605 their kings:4428 he left7604 none3808 remaining,8300 but utterly destroyed2763 all3605 that breathed,5397 as834 the LORD3068 God430 of Israel3478 commanded.6680

41 And Joshua3091 smote5221 them from Kadesh-barnea4480 6947 even unto5704 Gaza,5804 and all3605 the country776 of Goshen,1657 even unto5704 Gibeon.1391

42 And all3605 these428 kings4428 and their land776 did Joshua3091 take3920 at one259 time,6471 because3588 the LORD3068 God430 of Israel3478 fought3898 for Israel.3478
