Chapter 18

1 AFTER these things, I saw another angel come down from heaven, having great power; and the earth was lightened by his glory.

2 And he cried with a mighty voice, saying, Babylon the great is fallen, and has become a habitation of those possessed with devils, and the shelter of every foul spirit and the shelter of every unclean and detestable bird and the shelter of every unclean and loathsome wild beast.

3 Because all nations have drunk of the wine of her wrath, and the kings of the earth have committed adultery with her, and the merchants of the earth have become rich through the power of her trade.

4 And I heard another voice from heaven, saying, Come out of her, O my people, so that you may not become partakers of her sins, and are not smitten by her plagues.

5 For her sins have reached up to heaven, and God has remembered her iniquities.

6 Reward her even as she has rewarded you, and return unto her a double portion according to her works: in the cup which she has mixed, mix for her double.

7 For as much as she has glorified herself and lived deliciously, give her so much torment and sorrow: for she says in her heart, I sit a queen, and am no widow and shall see no sorrow.

8 Therefore, her plagues shall come in one day, death, and mourning, and famine; and she shall be burned with fire: for mighty is the LORD God who judges her.

9 And the kings of the earth who committed adultery and lived deliciously with her, shall weep and mourn and wail over her, when they see the smoke of her burning,

10 Standing afar off for the fear of her torment, saying, Woe, woe, that great city Babylon, that mighty city! for in one hour you have been condemned.

11 And the merchants of the earth shall weep and mourn over her; for no man buys their merchandise any more:

12 Never again will there be cargoes of gold, and silver, and precious stones, and pearls, and fine linen and purple, and silk, and scarlet, and every kind of aromatic wood, and all manner of vessels of ivory, and all manner of vessels of most precious wood, and of brass, and iron, and marble,

13 And cinnamon, and perfumes and spices and myrrh, and frankincense, and wine, and oil, and fine flour, and wheat, and cattle, and sheep, and horses, and chariots, and hides, and slaves.

14 And the fruits which your soul lusted after are departed from you, and all things which were luxurious and goodly are lost to you, and you shall never find them any more at all.

15 The merchants of these things, who were made rich by her, shall stand afar off for the fear of her torment, and they shall weep and wail,

16 Saying, Woe, woe, that great city, which was clothed with fine linen and purple, and scarlet, inlaid with gold, and precious stones and pearls! for in one hour these great riches are destroyed.

17 And every shipmaster, and all the travelers in ships, and sailors, and all those who labor at sea stood afar off,

18 And cried when they saw the smoke of her burning, saying, What city is like to this great city!

19 And they threw dust on their heads, and cried, weeping and wailing, saying, Woe, woe, that great city, where all who had ships on the sea were made rich by reason of her preciousness! for in one hour she is destroyed.

20 Rejoice over her, O heaven, and angels, apostles, and prophets, for God has avenged you on her.

21 And a mighty angel took up a stone like a great millstone, and cast it into the sea, saying, So shall that great city Babylon be overthrown with violence, and shall be found no more at all.

22 And the sound of harpers, and musicians, and singers and trumpeters, shall not be heard in you again; and no craftsman, of whatever craft he be shall be found any more in you;

23 And the light of a lamp shall shine no more at all in you; and the voice of the bridegroom and of the bride shall be heard no more at all in you: for your merchants were the great men of the earth; for by your sorceries were all peoples deceived.

24 And in her was found the blood of prophets, and of saints, and of all who were slain upon the earth.

Kapitel 18

1 Und2532 danach sah1492 ich einen andern243 Engel32 niederfahren vom1537 Himmel3772, der2532 hatte2192 eine große3173 Macht1849, und3326 die5023 Erde1093 ward erleuchtet5461 von1537 seiner846 Klarheit1391.

2 Und2532 schrie2896 aus Macht2479 mit1722 großer3173 Stimme5456 und2532 sprach3004: Sie ist4098 gefallen, sie ist4098 gefallen, Babylon, die897 große3173, und2532 eine Behausung2732 der Teufel1142 worden und2532 ein Behältnis5438 aller3956 unreinen169 Geister4151 und2532 ein Behältnis5438 aller3956 unreinen169 und feindseligen Vögel3732.

3 Denn3754 von1537 dem846 Wein3631 des846 Zorns2372 ihrer Hurerei4202 haben4203 alle3956 Heiden1484 getrunken4095; und2532 die Könige935 auf Erden1093 haben mit3326 ihr846 Hurerei getrieben, und2532 ihre Kaufleute1713 sind reich4147 worden von1537 ihrer großen1411 Wollust4764.

4 Und2532 ich hörete eine andere243 Stimme5456 vom1537 Himmel3772, die sprach3004: Gehet aus1831 von1537 ihr191, mein3450 Volk2992, daß3363 ihr846 nicht2532 teilhaftig werdet4790 ihrer Sünden266, auf daß3363 ihr nicht3363 empfanget2983 etwas von1537 ihren Plagen4127;

5 Denn3754 ihre846 Sünden266 reichen190 bis891 in den Himmel3772, und2532 GOtt2316 denkt an3421 ihren846 Frevel92.

6 Bezahlet sie, wie5613 sie euch5213 bezahlet hat1722, und2532 macht‘s ihr591 zwiefältig1363 nach2596 ihren Werken2041; und2532 mit welchem3739 Kelch4221 sie euch eingeschenket hat2767, schenket ihr zwiefältig1362 ein.

7 Wieviel sie3745 sich1438 herrlich gemacht und2532 ihren Mutwillen gehabt hat4763, so viel5118 schenket ihr846 Qual929 und2532 Leid3997 ein. Denn3754 sie1325 spricht3004 in1722 ihrem Herzen2588: Ich sitze2521 und2532 bin1510 eine Königin938 und2532 werde1392 keine Witwe5503 sein, und Leid3997 werde ich nicht3756 sehen1492.

8 Darum1223 werden ihre Plagen4127 auf1722 einen3391 Tag2250 kommen2240, der3588 Tod2288, Leid3997 und2532 Hunger3042; mit1722 Feuer4442 wird2532 sie846 verbrannt2618 werden. Denn2532 stark2478 ist2240 GOtt2316 der HErr2962, der sie846 richten2919 wird.

9 Und2532 es werden sie846 beweinen2799 und2532 sich über1909 sie846 beklagen die Könige935 auf Erden1093, die mit3326 ihr846 gehuret und2532 Mutwillen getrieben haben4203, wenn3752 sie846 sehen991 werden den3588 Rauch2586 von ihrem Brande4451.
