Jeremiah

Chapter 34

1 THE word which came to Jeremiah from the LORD, when Nebuchadnezzar, king of Babylon, and all his army and all the kingdoms of the earth that were under his dominion and all the peoples who were fighting against Jerusalem and against all of its cities, saying,

2 Thus says the LORD, the God of Israel: Go and speak to Zedekiah king of Judah and tell him, Thus says the LORD: Behold, I will deliver this city into the hand of the king of Babylon and he shall burn it with fire;

3 And you shall not escape from his hand, but shall surely be seized and delivered into his hand, and your eyes shall see the eyes of the king of Babylon, and you shall speak with him mouth to mouth, and you shall go to Babylon.

4 Yet hear the word of the LORD, O Zedekiah king of Judah; thus says the LORD concerning you, You shall not die by the sword; but you shall die in peace;

5 And as they mourned over your fathers, the former kings who were before you, so shall they mourn over you; and they shall lament for you, saying, Ah lord! for I have spoken this word, says the LORD.

6 Then Jeremiah the prophet spoke all these words to Zedekiah king of Judah in Jerusalem

7 When the king of Babylon's army was fighting against Jerusalem and against all the cities of Judah that were left, against Lachish and against Azekah; for these were the only fortified cities that remained of the cities of Judah.

8 This is the word that came to Jeremiah from the LORD, after king Zedekiah had made a covenant with all the people that were in Jerusalem: Proclaim liberty to them;

9 That every man should set free his Hebrew manservant and maidservant, so that no man may enslave a Jew, his brother.

10 And all the princes and all the people obeyed, and took upon themselves to let every one his manservant and his maidservant go free, that they should not make them to serve them any more; so they let them go free.

11 But afterward they changed their minds, and caused to return both the male and female servants whom they had let go free, and brought them into subjection for servants and for handmaids.

12 Therefore the word of the LORD came to Jeremiah, saying,

13 Thus says the LORD, the God of Israel: I made a covenant with your fathers in the day that I brought them forth out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage, saying,

14 At the end of seven years you shall set free every man his brother, a Hebrew, who has been sold to you; and when he has served you six years, you shall let him go free from you; but your fathers did not hearken to me nor incline their ear.

15 And you now had turned, and had done that which is right in my sight, in proclaiming liberty every man to his neighbor, and you had made a covenant before me in the house which is called by my name;

16 But then you turned again and profaned my name, and caused every man his servant and every man his handmaid, whom he had set at liberty at their pleasure, to return and to be brought again into subjection, to be to you for servants and for handmaids.

17 Therefore thus says the LORD, the God of Israel: You have not hearkened to me in proclaiming liberty every one to his neighbor; beg hold, I proclaim for you liberty to sword, to famine, and to pestilence, says the LORD; and I will make you a horror to all the kingdoms of the earth.

18 And I will deliver up the men who have transgressed my covenant, who have not confirmed the words of the covenant which they had made before me, when they cut the calf in two and passed between the parts thereof,

19 The princes of Judah and the princes of Jerusalem, the eunuchs and the priests and all the people of the land, who passed between the parts of the calf;

20 And I will deliver them into the hand of their enemies and into the hand of those who seek their lives; and their dead bodies shall be food for the fowls of the air and for the beasts of the earth.

21 And Zedekiah king of Judah and his princes I will deliver into the hand of their enemies and into the hand of those who seek their lives and into the hand of the king of Babylon's army, who are coming back against them.

22 Behold, I will command, says the LORD, and cause them to return to this city; and they shall fight against it and take it and burn it with fire; and I will make the cities of Judah a desolation without an inhabitant.

Chapter 34

1 The word1697 which834 came1961 to Jeremiah3414 from the LORD,3068 when Nebuchadnezzar5019 king4428 of Babylon,894 and all3605 his army,2428 and all3605 the kingdoms4467 of the earth776 of his dominion,4475 and all3605 the people,5971 fought3898 against5921 Jerusalem,3389 and against5921 all3605 the cities5892 thereof, saying,559

2 Thus3541 said559 the LORD,3068 the God430 of Israel;3478 Go1980 and speak559 to Zedekiah6667 king4428 of Judah,3063 and tell559 him, Thus3541 said559 the LORD;3068 Behold,2005 I will give5414 this2063 city5892 into the hand3027 of the king4428 of Babylon,894 and he shall burn8313 it with fire:784

3 And you shall not escape4422 out of his hand,3027 but shall surely3588 be taken,8610 and delivered5414 into his hand;3027 and your eyes5869 shall behold7200 the eyes5869 of the king4428 of Babylon,894 and he shall speak1696 with you mouth6310 to mouth,6310 and you shall go935 to Babylon.894

4 Yet389 hear8085 the word1697 of the LORD,3068 O Zedekiah6667 king4428 of Judah;3063 Thus3541 said559 the LORD3068 of you, You shall not die4191 by the sword:2719

5 But you shall die4191 in peace:7965 and with the burnings4955 of your fathers,1 the former7223 kings4428 which834 were before6440 you, so3651 shall they burn8313 odors for you; and they will lament5594 you, saying, Ah1945 lord!113 for I have pronounced1696 the word,1697 said5002 the LORD.3068

6 Then Jeremiah3414 the prophet5030 spoke1696 all3605 these428 words1697 to Zedekiah6667 king4428 of Judah3063 in Jerusalem,3389

7 When the king4428 of Babylon's894 army2428 fought3898 against5921 Jerusalem,3389 and against5921 all3605 the cities5892 of Judah3063 that were left,3498 against413 Lachish,3923 and against413 Azekah:5825 for these2007 defended4013 cities5892 remained7604 of the cities5892 of Judah.3063

8 This is the word1697 that came1961 to Jeremiah3414 from the LORD,3068 after310 that the king4428 Zedekiah6667 had made3772 a covenant1285 with all3605 the people5971 which834 were at Jerusalem,3389 to proclaim7121 liberty1865 to them;

9 That every man376 should let his manservant,5650 and every man376 his maidservant,8198 being an Hebrew5680 or an Hebrewess,5680 go7971 free;2670 that none1115 should serve5647 himself of them, to wit, of a Jew3064 his brother.251

10 Now when all3605 the princes,8269 and all3605 the people,5971 which834 had entered935 into the covenant,1285 heard8085 that every376 one376 should let his manservant,5650 and every376 one376 his maidservant,8198 go7971 free,2670 that none1115 should serve5647 themselves of them any more,5750 then they obeyed,8085 and let them go.7971

11 But afterward310 3651 they turned,7725 and caused the servants5650 and the handmaids,8198 whom834 they had let go7971 free,2670 to return,7725 and brought3533 them into subjection3533 for servants5650 and for handmaids.8198

12 Therefore the word1697 of the LORD3068 came1961 to Jeremiah3414 from the LORD,3068 saying,559

13 Thus3541 said559 the LORD,3068 the God430 of Israel;3478 I made3772 a covenant1285 with your fathers1 in the day3117 that I brought3318 them forth3318 out of the land776 of Egypt,4714 out of the house1004 of slaves,5650 saying,559

14 At the end7093 of seven7651 years8141 let you go7971 every man376 his brother251 an Hebrew,5680 which834 has been sold4376 to you; and when he has served5647 you six8337 years,8141 you shall let him go7971 free2670 from you: but your fathers1 listened8085 not to me, neither3808 inclined5186 their ear.241

15 And you were now3117 turned,7725 and had done6213 right3477 in my sight,5869 in proclaiming7121 liberty1865 every man376 to his neighbor;7453 and you had made3772 a covenant1285 before6440 me in the house1004 which834 is called7121 by my name:8034

16 But you turned7725 and polluted2490 my name,8034 and caused every man376 his servant,5650 and every man376 his handmaid,8198 whom834 he had set7971 at liberty2670 at their pleasure,5315 to return,7725 and brought3533 them into subjection,3533 to be to you for servants5650 and for handmaids.8198

17 Therefore3651 thus3541 said559 the LORD;3068 You have not listened8085 to me, in proclaiming7121 liberty,1865 every one376 to his brother,251 and every man376 to his neighbor:7453 behold,2005 I proclaim7121 a liberty1865 for you, said5002 the LORD,3068 to the sword,2719 to the pestilence,1698 and to the famine;7458 and I will make5414 you to be removed2189 into all3605 the kingdoms4467 of the earth.776

18 And I will give5414 the men582 that have transgressed5674 my covenant,1285 which834 have not performed6965 the words1697 of the covenant1285 which834 they had made3772 before6440 me, when they cut3772 the calf5695 in two,8147 and passed5674 between996 the parts1335 thereof,

19 The princes8269 of Judah,3063 and the princes8269 of Jerusalem,3389 the eunuchs,5631 and the priests,3548 and all3605 the people5971 of the land,776 which passed5674 between996 the parts1335 of the calf;5695

20 I will even give5414 them into the hand3027 of their enemies,341 and into the hand3027 of them that seek1245 their life:5315 and their dead5038 bodies5038 shall be for meat3978 to the fowls5775 of the heaven,8064 and to the beasts929 of the earth.776

21 And Zedekiah6667 king4428 of Judah3063 and his princes8269 will I give5414 into the hand3027 of their enemies,341 and into the hand3027 of them that seek1245 their life,5315 and into the hand3027 of the king4428 of Babylon's894 army,2428 which are gone5927 up from you.

22 Behold,2005 I will command,6680 said5002 the LORD,3068 and cause them to return7725 to this2063 city;5892 and they shall fight3898 against5921 it, and take3920 it, and burn8313 it with fire:784 and I will make5414 the cities5892 of Judah3063 a desolation8077 without369 an inhabitant.3427

Jeremiah

Chapter 34

1 THE word which came to Jeremiah from the LORD, when Nebuchadnezzar, king of Babylon, and all his army and all the kingdoms of the earth that were under his dominion and all the peoples who were fighting against Jerusalem and against all of its cities, saying,

2 Thus says the LORD, the God of Israel: Go and speak to Zedekiah king of Judah and tell him, Thus says the LORD: Behold, I will deliver this city into the hand of the king of Babylon and he shall burn it with fire;

3 And you shall not escape from his hand, but shall surely be seized and delivered into his hand, and your eyes shall see the eyes of the king of Babylon, and you shall speak with him mouth to mouth, and you shall go to Babylon.

4 Yet hear the word of the LORD, O Zedekiah king of Judah; thus says the LORD concerning you, You shall not die by the sword; but you shall die in peace;

4 Yet389 hear8085 the word1697 of the LORD,3068 O Zedekiah6667 king4428 of Judah;3063 Thus3541 said559 the LORD3068 of you, You shall not die4191 by the sword:2719

5 And as they mourned over your fathers, the former kings who were before you, so shall they mourn over you; and they shall lament for you, saying, Ah lord! for I have spoken this word, says the LORD.

6 Then Jeremiah the prophet spoke all these words to Zedekiah king of Judah in Jerusalem

6 Then Jeremiah3414 the prophet5030 spoke1696 all3605 these428 words1697 to Zedekiah6667 king4428 of Judah3063 in Jerusalem,3389

7 When the king of Babylon's army was fighting against Jerusalem and against all the cities of Judah that were left, against Lachish and against Azekah; for these were the only fortified cities that remained of the cities of Judah.

8 This is the word that came to Jeremiah from the LORD, after king Zedekiah had made a covenant with all the people that were in Jerusalem: Proclaim liberty to them;

8 This is the word1697 that came1961 to Jeremiah3414 from the LORD,3068 after310 that the king4428 Zedekiah6667 had made3772 a covenant1285 with all3605 the people5971 which834 were at Jerusalem,3389 to proclaim7121 liberty1865 to them;

9 That every man should set free his Hebrew manservant and maidservant, so that no man may enslave a Jew, his brother.

9 That every man376 should let his manservant,5650 and every man376 his maidservant,8198 being an Hebrew5680 or an Hebrewess,5680 go7971 free;2670 that none1115 should serve5647 himself of them, to wit, of a Jew3064 his brother.251

10 And all the princes and all the people obeyed, and took upon themselves to let every one his manservant and his maidservant go free, that they should not make them to serve them any more; so they let them go free.

11 But afterward they changed their minds, and caused to return both the male and female servants whom they had let go free, and brought them into subjection for servants and for handmaids.

11 But afterward310 3651 they turned,7725 and caused the servants5650 and the handmaids,8198 whom834 they had let go7971 free,2670 to return,7725 and brought3533 them into subjection3533 for servants5650 and for handmaids.8198

12 Therefore the word of the LORD came to Jeremiah, saying,

12 Therefore the word1697 of the LORD3068 came1961 to Jeremiah3414 from the LORD,3068 saying,559

13 Thus says the LORD, the God of Israel: I made a covenant with your fathers in the day that I brought them forth out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage, saying,

14 At the end of seven years you shall set free every man his brother, a Hebrew, who has been sold to you; and when he has served you six years, you shall let him go free from you; but your fathers did not hearken to me nor incline their ear.

15 And you now had turned, and had done that which is right in my sight, in proclaiming liberty every man to his neighbor, and you had made a covenant before me in the house which is called by my name;

16 But then you turned again and profaned my name, and caused every man his servant and every man his handmaid, whom he had set at liberty at their pleasure, to return and to be brought again into subjection, to be to you for servants and for handmaids.

18 And I will deliver up the men who have transgressed my covenant, who have not confirmed the words of the covenant which they had made before me, when they cut the calf in two and passed between the parts thereof,

19 The princes of Judah and the princes of Jerusalem, the eunuchs and the priests and all the people of the land, who passed between the parts of the calf;

19 The princes8269 of Judah,3063 and the princes8269 of Jerusalem,3389 the eunuchs,5631 and the priests,3548 and all3605 the people5971 of the land,776 which passed5674 between996 the parts1335 of the calf;5695

20 And I will deliver them into the hand of their enemies and into the hand of those who seek their lives; and their dead bodies shall be food for the fowls of the air and for the beasts of the earth.

21 And Zedekiah king of Judah and his princes I will deliver into the hand of their enemies and into the hand of those who seek their lives and into the hand of the king of Babylon's army, who are coming back against them.

22 Behold, I will command, says the LORD, and cause them to return to this city; and they shall fight against it and take it and burn it with fire; and I will make the cities of Judah a desolation without an inhabitant.
