Job

Chapter 12

1 AND Job answered and said,

2 Truly, you are the people, and wisdom shall die with you.

3 But I have understanding as well as you; I am not inferior to you; but to whom are such things as these not known?

4 And yet he who called upon God became ridiculous to his friends, and he answered him who is pleased with the righteous who are unblemished,

5 Who is ready to do away with contempt and iniquity, and to strengthen the slippery feet.

6 The tabernacle of robbers shall be removed, and the confidence of those who provoke God; for there is no God in their heart.

7 But ask now the beasts, and they shall teach you; and the fowls of the air, and they shall tell you;

8 Or speak to the earth, and it shall teach you; and the fishes of the sea shall declare to you.

9 Who does not know in all these that the hand of the LORD has made them?

10 Because in his hand are the souls of every living thing, and the breath of all mankind.

11 The ear hears the words, and the palate tastes food.

12 With the elders is wisdom; and in length of days, understanding.

13 With him is wisdom and might, he has counsel and understanding.

14 Behold, if he demolishes, who can build; and if he shuts up a man in prison, who can open?

15 If he withholds the waters, they dry up; if he releases them they ruin the land.

16 With him is strength and wisdom; with him is might and salvation.

17 He leads kings amazingly, and makes judges fools.

18 He brings kings down to beg at the gates, and girds their loins with girdles of power.

19 He leads priests with reverence, and overthrows the mighty.

20 He cancels the speech of trusty counsellors, and takes away the good judgment of elders.

21 He pours contempt upon princes, and weakens the strength of the mighty.

22 He uncovers deep things out of darkness, and brings the light out of the shadow of death.

23 He causes the nations to err, and destroys them; he strikes down the nations, and forsakes them.

24 He takes away the understanding of the chiefs of the people of the earth, and causes them to wander in a waste land where there is no way.

25 They search in darkness without light, and they grope in darkness without understanding; and he makes them stagger like a drunken man.

Chapter 12

1 And Job347 answered6030 and said,559

2 No551 doubt551 but you are the people,5971 and wisdom2451 shall die4191 with you.

3 But I have understanding3824 as well1571 as you; I am1961 not inferior5307 to you: yes, who4310 knows854 not such3644 things as these?428

4 I am as one mocked7832 of his neighbor,7453 who calls7121 on God,433 and he answers6030 him: the just6662 upright8549 man is laughed7832 to scorn.

5 He that is ready3559 to slip4571 with his feet7272 is as a lamp3940 despised937 in the thought6248 of him that is at ease.7600

6 The tabernacles168 of robbers7703 prosper,7951 and they that provoke7264 God410 are secure;987 into whose834 hand3027 God433 brings935 abundantly.

7 But ask7592 now4994 the beasts,929 and they shall teach3384 you; and the fowls5775 of the air,8064 and they shall tell5046 you:

8 Or176 speak7878 to the earth,776 and it shall teach3384 you: and the fishes1709 of the sea3220 shall declare5608 to you.

9 Who4310 knows3045 not in all3605 these428 that the hand3027 of the LORD3068 has worked6213 this?2063

10 In whose834 hand3027 is the soul5315 of every3605 living2416 thing, and the breath7307 of all3605 mankind.1320 376

11 Does not the ear241 try974 words?4405 and the mouth2441 taste2938 his meat?400

12 With the ancient3453 is wisdom;2451 and in length753 of days3117 understanding.8394

13 With him is wisdom2451 and strength,1369 he has counsel6098 and understanding.8394

14 Behold,2005 he breaks2040 down,2040 and it cannot3808 be built1129 again: he shuts5462 up a man,376 and there can be no3808 opening.6605

15 Behold,2005 he withholds6113 the waters,4325 and they dry3001 up: also he sends7971 them out, and they overturn2015 the earth.776

16 With him is strength5797 and wisdom:8454 the deceived7683 and the deceiver7686 are his.

17 He leads3212 counsellors3289 away spoiled,7758 and makes the judges8199 fools.1984

18 He looses6605 the bond4148 of kings,4428 and girds631 their loins4975 with a girdle.232

19 He leads3212 princes3548 away spoiled,7758 and overthrows5557 the mighty.386

20 He removes5493 away the speech8193 of the trusty,539 and takes3947 away the understanding2940 of the aged.2205

21 He pours8210 contempt937 on princes,5081 and weakens7503 the strength4206 of the mighty.650

22 He discovers1540 deep6013 things out of darkness,2822 and brings3318 out to light216 the shadow6757 of death.6757

23 He increases7679 the nations,1471 and destroys6 them: he enlarges7849 the nations,1471 and straitens5148 them again.

24 He takes5493 away5493 the heart3820 of the chief7218 of the people5971 of the earth,776 and causes them to wander8582 in a wilderness8414 where there is no3808 way.1870

25 They grope4959 in the dark2822 without3808 light,216 and he makes them to stagger8582 like a drunken7910 man.
