Глава 1

1 Вот имена сынов Израилевых, - которые вошли в Египет с Иаковом, вошли каждый с семейством своим:

2 Рувим, Симеон, Левий и Иуда,

3 Иссахар, Завулон и Вениамин,

4 Дан и Неффалим, Гад и Асир.

5 Всех же душ, происшедших от чресл Иакова, было семьдесят, а Иосиф был уже в Египте.

6 Иосиф умер и все братья его и весь оный род;

7 А сыны Израилевы расплодились, размножились, возрасли и усилились чрезвычайно, и наполнилась ими страна та.

8 Между тем восстал в Египте новый царь, который не знал Иосифа.

9 И сказал народу своему: вот, народ сынов Израилевых многочислен и сильнее нас.

10 Ухитримся против него, чтобы он не размножался; иначе, когда случится война, соединится и он с нашими неприятелями, и вооружится против нас, и выйдет из сей земли.

11 Итак поставили над ним приставников, чтоб изнуряли его тяжкими работами. И он построил Фараону Пифом и Раамсес, города для запасов.

12 Но чем более изнуряли его, тем более он умножался, и тем более возрастал; так что опасались сынов Израилевых.

13 И потому Египтяне с жестокостью принуждали сынов Израилевых к работам.

14 И делали жизнь их горькою от тяжкой работы над глиною и кирпичами, и от всякой работы полевой, от всякой работы, к которой принуждали их с жестокостью.

15 Сверх того, царь Египетский повелел повивальным бабкам Евреянок, из коих одной имя Шифра, а другой Фуа,

16 И сказал: когда вы будете повивать у Евреянок, то наблюдайте при родах: если будет сын, то умерщвляйте; а если дочь, то пусть живет.

17 Но повивальные бабки боялись Бога, и не делали так, как говорил им царь Египетский; и оставляли детей в живых.

18 Царь Египетский призвал повивальных бабок и сказал им: для чего вы делаете такое дело, что оставляете детей в живых?

19 Повивальные бабки сказали Фараону: Еврейские женщины не так, как Египетские; они здоровы, прежде нежели придет к ним повивальная бабка, они уже рождают.

20 За сие Бог делал добро повивальным бабкам; а народ умножался и весьма усиливался.

21 Таким образом, поелику повивальные бабки боялись Бога, Бог устроял семейства Евреям.

22 Наконец, Фараон всему народу своему повелел, говоря: всякого у Евреев новорожденного сына бросайте в реку, а всякую дочь оставляйте в живых.

Chapter 1

1 THESE are the names of the children of Israel, who came into Egypt; every man and his household came with Jacob:

2 Reuben, Simeon, Levi, and Judah,

3 Issachar, Zebulun, and Benjamin,

4 Dan, and Naphtali, Gad, and Asher.

5 And all the persons that came out of the loins of Jacob were seventy persons; for Joseph was in Egypt already.

6 And Joseph died, and all his brothers, and all that generation.

7 And the children of Israel were fruitful and increased abundantly, and multiplied and grew exceedingly strong; and the land was filled with them.

8 Now there rose up a new king over Egypt who knew not Joseph.

9 And he said to his people, Behold, the people of the children of Israel are more numerous and stronger than we;

10 Come, let us deal wisely with them, before they multiply, lest when we chance to be at war, they will be added also to our enemies, and fight against us, and so drive us out of the land.

11 Therefore they appointed over them cruel taskmasters to afflict them with their burdens. And they built for Pharaoh cities with storehouses, Pithom and Raamses.

12 But the more they oppressed them, the more they multiplied and became strong. And the Egyptians were grieved because of the children of Israel.

13 So the Egyptians oppressed the children of Israel severely;

14 And they made their lives bitter with hard labor, in mortar and in bricks and in all manner of work in the field; all their service wherein they made them serve was with rigor.

15 And the king of Egypt spoke to the Hebrew midwives, of whom the name of the one was Puah and the name of the other Shoprah;

16 And he said to them, When you do perform your duties as midwives to the Hebrew women, look out when they kneel to deliver; if it is a male, then you must kill him; but if it is a female, then let her live.

17 But the midwives feared God, and did not do as the king of Egypt commanded them, but let the boys live.

18 So the king of Egypt called for the midwives and said to them, Why have you done this thing, and let the boys live?

19 And the midwives said to Pharaoh, The Hebrew women are not like the Egyptian women; for they themselves are midwives, and are delivered before a midwife comes in to them.

20 Therefore God dealt well with the midwives, because they spared the males; and the people multiplied, and grew exceedingly strong.

21 And it came to pass, because the midwives feared God, he blessed them with families.

22 And Pharaoh charged all the people, saying, Every son that is born you shall cast into the river, and every daughter you shall save alive.

6 Иосиф умер и все братья его и весь оный род;

6 And Joseph died, and all his brothers, and all that generation.

7 А сыны Израилевы расплодились, размножились, возрасли и усилились чрезвычайно, и наполнилась ими страна та.

7 And the children of Israel were fruitful and increased abundantly, and multiplied and grew exceedingly strong; and the land was filled with them.

8 Между тем восстал в Египте новый царь, который не знал Иосифа.

8 Now there rose up a new king over Egypt who knew not Joseph.

9 И сказал народу своему: вот, народ сынов Израилевых многочислен и сильнее нас.

9 And he said to his people, Behold, the people of the children of Israel are more numerous and stronger than we;

10 Ухитримся против него, чтобы он не размножался; иначе, когда случится война, соединится и он с нашими неприятелями, и вооружится против нас, и выйдет из сей земли.

10 Come, let us deal wisely with them, before they multiply, lest when we chance to be at war, they will be added also to our enemies, and fight against us, and so drive us out of the land.

11 Итак поставили над ним приставников, чтоб изнуряли его тяжкими работами. И он построил Фараону Пифом и Раамсес, города для запасов.

12 But the more they oppressed them, the more they multiplied and became strong. And the Egyptians were grieved because of the children of Israel.

13 И потому Египтяне с жестокостью принуждали сынов Израилевых к работам.

13 So the Egyptians oppressed the children of Israel severely;

14 И делали жизнь их горькою от тяжкой работы над глиною и кирпичами, и от всякой работы полевой, от всякой работы, к которой принуждали их с жестокостью.

14 And they made their lives bitter with hard labor, in mortar and in bricks and in all manner of work in the field; all their service wherein they made them serve was with rigor.

15 Сверх того, царь Египетский повелел повивальным бабкам Евреянок, из коих одной имя Шифра, а другой Фуа,

17 Но повивальные бабки боялись Бога, и не делали так, как говорил им царь Египетский; и оставляли детей в живых.

17 But the midwives feared God, and did not do as the king of Egypt commanded them, but let the boys live.

18 Царь Египетский призвал повивальных бабок и сказал им: для чего вы делаете такое дело, что оставляете детей в живых?

18 So the king of Egypt called for the midwives and said to them, Why have you done this thing, and let the boys live?

19 Повивальные бабки сказали Фараону: Еврейские женщины не так, как Египетские; они здоровы, прежде нежели придет к ним повивальная бабка, они уже рождают.

19 And the midwives said to Pharaoh, The Hebrew women are not like the Egyptian women; for they themselves are midwives, and are delivered before a midwife comes in to them.

20 За сие Бог делал добро повивальным бабкам; а народ умножался и весьма усиливался.

20 Therefore God dealt well with the midwives, because they spared the males; and the people multiplied, and grew exceedingly strong.

21 Таким образом, поелику повивальные бабки боялись Бога, Бог устроял семейства Евреям.

21 And it came to pass, because the midwives feared God, he blessed them with families.

22 Наконец, Фараон всему народу своему повелел, говоря: всякого у Евреев новорожденного сына бросайте в реку, а всякую дочь оставляйте в живых.

22 And Pharaoh charged all the people, saying, Every son that is born you shall cast into the river, and every daughter you shall save alive.
