Deuteronomy

Chapter 23

1 He that is wounded1795 in the stones, or has his privy8212 member cut3772 off, shall not enter935 into the congregation6951 of the LORD.3068

2 A bastard4464 shall not enter935 into the congregation6951 of the LORD;3068 even1571 to his tenth6224 generation1755 shall he not enter935 into the congregation6951 of the LORD.3068

3 An Ammonite5984 or Moabite4125 shall not enter935 into the congregation6951 of the LORD;3068 even1571 to their tenth6224 generation1755 shall they not enter935 into the congregation6951 of the LORD3068 for ever:5769

4 Because5921 they met6923 you not with bread3899 and with water4325 in the way,1870 when you came3318 forth3318 out of Egypt;4714 and because834 they hired7936 against5921 you Balaam1109 the son1121 of Beor1160 of Pethor6604 of Mesopotamia,763 to curse7043 you.

5 Nevertheless the LORD3068 your God430 would14 not listen8085 to Balaam;1109 but the LORD3068 your God430 turned2015 the curse7045 into a blessing1293 to you, because3588 the LORD3068 your God430 loved157 you.

6 You shall not seek1875 their peace7965 nor their prosperity2896 all3605 your days3117 for ever.5769

7 You shall not abhor8581 an Edomite;130 for he is your brother:251 you shall not abhor8581 an Egyptian;4713 because3588 you were1961 a stranger1616 in his land.776

8 The children1121 that are begotten3205 of them shall enter935 into the congregation6951 of the LORD3068 in their third7992 generation.1755

9 When3588 the host4264 goes3318 forth3318 against5921 your enemies,341 then keep8104 you from every3605 wicked7451 thing.1697

10 If3588 there be among you any man,376 that is not clean2889 by reason of uncleanness7137 that chances4745 him by night,3915 then shall he go3318 abroad2351 out of the camp,4264 he shall not come935 within8432 the camp:4264

11 But it shall be, when evening6153 comes6437 on, he shall wash7364 himself with water:4325 and when the sun8121 is down,935 he shall come935 into8432 the camp4264 again.

12 You shall have1961 a place4725 also without2351 the camp,4264 where8033 you shall go3318 forth3318 abroad:2351

13 And you shall have1961 a paddle3489 on your weapon;240 and it shall be, when you will ease3427 yourself abroad,2351 you shall dig2658 therewith, and shall turn7725 back7725 and cover3680 that which comes6627 from you:

14 For the LORD3068 your God430 walks1980 in the middle7130 of your camp,4264 to deliver5337 you, and to give5414 up your enemies341 before6440 you; therefore shall your camp4264 be holy:6918 that he see7200 no3808 unclean6172 thing1697 in you, and turn7725 away from you.

15 You shall not deliver5462 to his master113 the servant5650 which834 is escaped5337 from his master113 to you:

16 He shall dwell3427 with you, even among7130 you, in that place4725 which834 he shall choose977 in one259 of your gates,8179 where it likes2896 him best:2896 you shall not oppress3238 him.

17 There shall be no3808 whore6948 of the daughters1323 of Israel,3478 nor3808 a sodomite6945 of the sons1121 of Israel.3478

18 You shall not bring935 the hire868 of a whore,2181 or the price4242 of a dog,3611 into the house1004 of the LORD3068 your God430 for any3605 vow:5088 for even1571 both these are abomination8441 to the LORD3068 your God.430

19 You shall not lend5391 on usury5391 to your brother;251 usury5392 of money,3701 usury5392 of victuals,400 usury5392 of any3605 thing1697 that is lent5391 on usury:5391

20 To a stranger5237 you may lend5391 on usury;5391 but to your brother251 you shall not lend5391 on usury:5391 that the LORD3068 your God430 may bless1288 you in all3605 that you set4916 your hand3027 to in the land776 where834 8033 you go935 to possess3423 it.

21 When3588 you shall vow5087 a vow5088 to the LORD3068 your God,430 you shall not slack309 to pay7999 it: for the LORD3068 your God430 will surely require1875 it of you; and it would be sin2399 in you.

22 But if3588 you shall forbear2308 to vow,5088 it shall be no3808 sin2399 in you.

23 That which834 is gone4161 out of your lips8193 you shall keep8104 and perform;6213 even a freewill5071 offering, according as you have vowed5087 to the LORD3068 your God,430 which you have promised1696 with your mouth.6310

24 When3588 you come935 into your neighbor's7453 vineyard,3754 then you may eat398 grapes6025 your fill7648 at your own pleasure;5315 but you shall not put5414 any in your vessel.3627

25 When3588 you come935 into the standing7054 corn7054 of your neighbor,7453 then you may pluck6998 the ears4425 with your hand;3027 but you shall not move5130 a sickle2770 to your neighbor's7453 standing7054 corn.7054

Chapter 23

1 NO adulterer shall enter into the assembly of the LORD.

2 Neither shall a bastard enter into the assembly of the LORD; even to the tenth generation, his descendants shall not enter into the assembly of the LORD.

3 An Ammonite or Moabite shall not enter into the congregation of the LORD; even to the tenth generation, his descendants shall not enter into the assembly of the LORD for ever;

4 Because they did not meet you with bread and with water on the way, when you came forth out of Egypt; and because they hired against you Balaam the son of Beor from Pethor of Aram-nahrin (Mesopotamia) to curse you.

5 Nevertheless the LORD your God would not hearken to Balaam; but the LORD your God turned his curses into blessings to you, because the LORD your God loved you.

6 You shall not seek their peace nor their prosperity all the days of your life for ever.

7 You shall not drive away an Edomite, for he is your brother; you shall not drive away an Egyptian, because you were a sojourner in his land.

8 The children that are born to them shall enter into the assembly of the LORD in their third generation.

9 When you go forth into the camp against your enemies, you shall beware of every wicked thing.

10 If there is among you any man who is not clean by reason of an emission at night, then he shall go outside the camp, he shall not come within the camp;

11 But when the evening comes on, he shall bathe himself with water; and when the sun is down, he shall come into the camp again.

12 You shall have a latrine outside the camp, to which you shall go to relieve yourself.

13 And you shall have a peg upon your weapon; and it shall be, when you relieve yourself, you shall dig with it, and then you shall cover your dung;

14 For the LORD your God walks in the midst of your camp, to deliver you and to subdue your enemies before you; therefore shall your camp be holy, that he may not see anything unclean in your camp, and turn away from you.

15 You shall not deliver to his master a servant who has escaped from his master to you;

16 But he shall dwell with you in the place which he shall choose in one of your towns, where it pleases him best; you shall not oppress him.

17 There shall be no whore of the daughters of Israel, also there shall be no sodomite of the sons of Israel.

18 You shall not bring the hire of a whore or the price of a dog into the house of the LORD your God for any vow; for both of these are an abomination before the LORD your God.

19 You shall not lend with interest to your brother: interest of money, interest of grain, and the interest of anything that is lent with interest;

20 To a foreigner you may lend with interest; but to your brother you shall not lend with interest, that the LORD your God may bless you in all that you set your hand to in the land which you shall go in to possess.

21 When you shall vow a vow to the LORD your God, you shall not be slack to pay it; for the LORD your God will surely require it of you; and it would be a sin in you.

22 But if you are unwilling to make a vow, then it shall be no sin in you.

23 That which is gone out of your lips you shall keep and perform; just as you have vowed a freewill offering to the LORD your God, which you have promised with your mouth.

24 When you come into your neighbor's vineyard, then you may eat grapes, your fill at your own pleasure; but you shall not put any into your vessel.

25 When you come into the standing wheat of your neighbor, you may pluck the ears with your hand; but you shall not put a sickle to your neighbor's standing grain.
