2 Thus3541 saith559 the LORD3068 the maker6213 thereof, the LORD3068 that formed3335 it, to establish3559 it; the LORD3068 is his name;8034

3 Call7121 unto413 me, and I will answer6030 thee, and show5046 thee great1419 and mighty1219 things, which thou knowest3045 not.3808

4 For3588 thus3541 saith559 the LORD,3068 the God430 of Israel,3478 concerning5921 the houses1004 of this2063 city,5892 and concerning5921 the houses1004 of the kings4428 of Judah,3063 which are thrown down5422 by413 the mounts,5550 and by413 the sword;2719

5 They come935 to fight3898 with854 the Chaldeans,3778 but it is to fill4390 them with854 the dead bodies6297 of men,120 whom834 I have slain5221 in mine anger639 and in my fury,2534 and for5921 all3605 whose834 wickedness7451 I have hid5641 my face6440 from this2063 city.4480 5892

6 Behold,2009 I will bring4608 it health724 and cure,4832 and I will cure7495 them, and will reveal1540 unto them the abundance6283 of peace7965 and truth.571

7 And I will cause853 the captivity7622 of Judah3063 and the captivity7622 of Israel3478 to return,7725 and will build1129 them, as at the first.7223

8 And I will cleanse2891 them from all4480 3605 their iniquity,5771 whereby834 they have sinned2398 against me; and I will pardon5545 all3605 their iniquities,5771 whereby834 they have sinned,2398 and whereby834 they have transgressed6586 against me.

9 And it shall be1961 to me a name8034 of joy,8342 a praise8416 and an honor8597 before all3605 the nations1471 of the earth,776 which834 shall hear8085 853 all3605 the good2896 that834 I595 do unto6213 them: and they shall fear6342 and tremble7264 for5921 all3605 the goodness2896 and for5921 all3605 the prosperity7965 that834 I595 procure6213 unto it.

10 Thus3541 saith559 the LORD;3068 Again5750 there shall be heard8085 in this2088 place,4725 which834 ye859 say559 shall be desolate2720 without4480 369 man120 and without4480 369 beast,929 even in the cities5892 of Judah,3063 and in the streets2351 of Jerusalem,3389 that are desolate,8074 without4480 369 man,120 and without4480 369 inhabitant,3427 and without4480 369 beast,929

11 The voice6963 of joy,8342 and the voice6963 of gladness,8057 the voice6963 of the bridegroom,2860 and the voice6963 of the bride,3618 the voice6963 of them that shall say,559 Praise3034 853 the LORD3068 of hosts:6635 for3588 the LORD3068 is good;2896 for3588 his mercy2617 endureth forever:5769 and of them that shall bring935 the sacrifice of praise8426 into the house1004 of the LORD.3068 For3588 I will cause to return7725 853 the captivity7622 of the land,776 as at the first,7223 saith559 the LORD.3068

13 In the cities5892 of the mountains,2022 in the cities5892 of the vale,8219 and in the cities5892 of the south,5045 and in the land776 of Benjamin,1144 and in the places about5439 Jerusalem,3389 and in the cities5892 of Judah,3063 shall the flocks6629 pass5674 again5750 under5921 the hands3027 of him that telleth4487 them, saith559 the LORD.3068

14 Behold,2009 the days3117 come,935 saith5002 the LORD,3068 that I will perform6965 853 that good2896 thing1697 which834 I have promised1696 unto413 the house1004 of Israel3478 and to5704 the house1004 of Judah.3063

15 In those1992 days,3117 and at that1931 time,6256 will I cause the Branch6780 of righteousness6666 to grow up6779 unto David;1732 and he shall execute6213 judgment4941 and righteousness6666 in the land.776

16 In those1992 days3117 shall Judah3063 be saved,3467 and Jerusalem3389 shall dwell7931 safely:983 and this2088 is the name wherewith834 she shall be called,7121 The LORD3068 our righteousness.6664

17 For3588 thus3541 saith559 the LORD;3068 David1732 shall never3808 want3772 a man376 to sit3427 upon5921 the throne3678 of the house1004 of Israel;3478

18 Neither3808 shall the priests3548 the Levites3881 want3772 a man376 before4480 6440 me to offer5927 burnt offerings,5930 and to kindle6999 meat offerings,4503 and to do6213 sacrifice2077 continually.3605 3117

19 And the word1697 of the LORD3068 came1961 unto413 Jeremiah,3414 saying,559

20 Thus3541 saith559 the LORD;3068 If518 ye can break6565 853 my covenant1285 of the day,3117 and my covenant1285 of the night,3915 and that there should not1115 be1961 day3119 and night3915 in their season;6256

21 Then may also1571 my covenant1285 be broken6565 with854 David1732 my servant,5650 that he should not have4480 1961 a son1121 to reign4427 upon5921 his throne;3678 and with854 the Levites3881 the priests,3548 my ministers.8334

22 As834 the host6635 of heaven8064 cannot3808 be numbered,5608 neither3808 the sand2344 of the sea3220 measured:4058 so3651 will I multiply7235 853 the seed2233 of David1732 my servant,5650 and the Levites3881 that minister unto8334 me.

24 Considerest7200 thou not3808 what4100 this2088 people5971 have spoken,1696 saying,559 The two8147 families4940 which834 the LORD3068 hath chosen,977 he hath even cast them off?3988 thus they have despised5006 my people,5971 that they should be no4480 1961 more5750 a nation1471 before6440 them.

25 Thus3541 saith559 the LORD;3068 If518 my covenant1285 be not3808 with day3119 and night,3915 and if I have not3808 appointed7760 the ordinances2708 of heaven8064 and earth;776

26 Then1571 will I cast away3988 the seed2233 of Jacob,3290 and David1732 my servant,5650 so that I will not take4480 3947 any of his seed4480 2233 to be rulers4910 over413 the seed2233 of Abraham,85 Isaac,3446 and Jacob:3290 for3588 I will cause853 their captivity7622 to return,7725 and have mercy7355 on them.

1 MOREOVER, the word of the LORD came to Jeremiah the second time, while he was yet shut up in the court of the guard, saying,

2 Thus says the LORD who made you and formed you and established you: the LORD is his name:

3 Call to me and I will answer you and show you great and mighty things which you know not.

4 For thus says the LORD, the God of Israel, concerning the houses of this city and concerning the houses of the kings of Judah, which the robbers have uprooted by the sword:

5 They come to fight with the Chaldeans, but it is to fill the streets with the dead bodies of men whom I have slain in my anger and in my wrath; for I have turned my face from this city because of the evil which they did before me.

6 Behold, I will bring to it a long period of healing, and I will heal them and will reveal to them the paths of peace and truth.

7 And I will bring back the captivity of Judah and the captivity of Israel, and I will build them as at first.

8 And I will cleanse them from their iniquity whereby they have committed evil against me; and I will pardon all their trespasses whereby they have sinned against me, and whereby they have transgressed against me.

9 And Israel shall be to me for a name and for a delight, and for rejoicing and for glory before all the nations of the earth, who shall hear of all the good that I do to them; and they shall fear and be angry because of all the goodness and all the peace that I bring to them.

10 Thus says the LORD: Again there shall be heard in this country which you say is a waste without man and without beast, even in the cities of Judah and in the streets of Jerusalem, which are desolate, without man and without inhabitant and without beast,

11 The voice of joy and the voice of gladness, the voice of the bridegroom and the voice of the bride, the voice of those who say, Praise the LORD of hosts; for the LORD is good and pleasant, and his mercy endures for ever; even of those who bring a sacrifice of praise into the house of the LORD. For I will bring back the captivity of the land, as at the first, says the LORD of hosts.

12 Thus says the LORD of hosts: From henceforth in this place which is waste, without men and without beast, and in all its cities there shall be habitations of shepherds and folds of the flocks.

13 In the cities of the mountains, in the cities of the plain and in the cities of the south and in the land of Benjamin and in the places about Jerusalem and in the cities of Judah, flocks shall again pass under the hands of those who count them, says the LORD.

14 Behold, the days are coming, says the LORD, when I will perform the good things which I have spoken concerning the house of Israel and concerning the house of Judah, says the LORD.

15 In those days and at that time I will cause an heir of righteousness to rise up to David; and he shall rule over the kingdom and shall have understanding and shall execute justice and righteousness in the land.

16 In those days Judah shall be saved and Jerusalem shall dwell safely; and this is the name by which they shall call him: The LORD our righteousness.

17 For thus says the LORD, David shall never lack an heir to sit on the throne of the house of Israel;

18 Neither shall the priests and the Levites lack a man before me to offer burnt offerings and to burn meat offerings and to do sacrifice and to burn incense continually.

19 And the word of the LORD came to Jeremiah, saying,

20 Thus says the LORD: if they can break my ordinances of the day, and my ordinances of the night, so that there should not be day and night in their appointed time;

21 Then may also my covenant which I made with David my servant be broken, so that he should not have an heir to reign upon his throne; and my covenant with the priests and the Levites, my ministers.

22 As the host of heaven cannot be numbered, neither the sand of the sea measured; so will I multiply the descendants of David my servant and of the Levites who minister to me.

23 Moreover the word of the LORD came to Jeremiah, saying,

24 Have you not considered what this people are saying, The two families which the LORD has chosen, he has rejected? Thus they have provoked my people to anger, that they should be no more a nation before me.

25 Thus says the LORD: If my covenant be not in effect with day and night, and if I have not appointed the ordinances of heaven and earth;

26 Then I will reject the descendants of Jacob and of David my servant so that I will not take any of his descendants to be rulers over the house of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob; for I will bring them back from their exile and will have mercy upon them.
