Matthew

Chapter 27

1 When1161 the morning4405 was come,1096 all3956 the3588 chief priests749 and2532 elders4245 of the3588 people2992 took2983 counsel4824 against2596 Jesus2424 to5620 put him to death:2289 846

2 And2532 when they had bound1210 him,846 they led him away,520 and2532 delivered3860 him846 to Pontius4194 Pilate4091 the3588 governor.2232

3 Then5119 Judas,2455 which had betrayed3860 him,846 when he saw1492 that3754 he was condemned,2632 repented3338 himself, and brought again654 the3588 thirty5144 pieces of silver694 to the3588 chief priests749 and2532 elders,4245

4 saying,3004 I have sinned264 in that I have betrayed3860 the innocent121 blood.129 And1161 they3588 said,2036 What5101 is that to4314 us?2248 see3700 thou4771 to that.

5 And2532 he cast down4496 the3588 pieces of silver694 in1722 the3588 temple,3485 and departed,402 and2532 went565 and hanged519 himself.

6 And1161 the3588 chief priests749 took2983 the3588 silver pieces,694 and said,2036 It is not lawful1832 3756 for to put906 them846 into1519 the3588 treasury,2878 because1893 it is2076 the price5092 of blood.129

7 And1161 they took2983 counsel,4824 and bought59 with1537 them846 the3588 potter's2763 field,68 to bury strangers in.1519 5027 3581

8 Wherefore1352 that1565 field68 was called,2564 The field68 of blood,129 unto2193 this day.4594

9 Then5119 was fulfilled4137 that3588 which was spoken4483 by1223 Jeremiah2408 the3588 prophet,4396 saying,3004 And2532 they took2983 the3588 thirty5144 pieces of silver,694 the3588 price5092 of him that was valued,5091 whom3739 they of575 the children5207 of Israel2474 did value;5091

10 And2532 gave1325 them846 for1519 the3588 potter's2763 field,68 as2505 the Lord2962 appointed4929 me.3427

11 And1161 Jesus2424 stood2476 before1715 the3588 governor:2232 and2532 the3588 governor2232 asked1905 him,846 saying,3004 Art1488 thou4771 the3588 King935 of the3588 Jews?2453 And1161 Jesus2424 said5346 unto him,846 Thou4771 sayest.3004

12 And2532 when he846 was accused2723 of5259 the3588 chief priests749 and2532 elders,4245 he answered611 nothing.3762

13 Then5119 said3004 Pilate4091 unto him,846 Hearest191 thou not3756 how many things4214 they witness against2649 thee?4675

14 And2532 he answered611 3756 him846 to4314 never3761 a1520 word;4487 insomuch5620 that the3588 governor2232 marveled2296 greatly.3029

15 Now1161 at2596 that feast1859 the3588 governor2232 was wont1486 to release630 unto the3588 people3793 a1520 prisoner,1198 whom3739 they would.2309

16 And1161 they had2192 then5119 a notable1978 prisoner,1198 called3004 Barabbas.912

17 Therefore3767 when they846 were gathered together,4863 Pilate4091 said2036 unto them,846 Whom5101 will2309 ye that I release630 unto you?5213 Barabbas,912 or2228 Jesus2424 which is called3004 Christ?5547

18 For1063 he knew1492 that3754 for1223 envy5355 they had delivered3860 him.846

19 When1161 he846 was set down2521 on1909 the3588 judgment seat,968 his846 wife1135 sent649 unto4314 him,846 saying,3004 Have thou nothing to do3367 4671 with that1565 just man:1342 for1063 I have suffered3958 many things4183 this day4594 in2596 a dream3677 because1223 of him.846

20 But1161 the3588 chief priests749 and2532 elders4245 persuaded3982 the3588 multitude3793 that2443 they should ask154 Barabbas,912 and1161 destroy622 Jesus.2424

21 1161 The3588 governor2232 answered611 and said2036 unto them,846 Whether5101 of575 the3588 twain1417 will2309 ye that I release630 unto you?5213 1161 They3588 said,2036 Barabbas.912

22 Pilate4091 saith3004 unto them,846 What5101 shall I do4160 then3767 with Jesus2424 which is called3004 Christ?5547 They all3956 say3004 unto him,846 Let him be crucified.4717

23 And1161 the3588 governor2232 said,5346 Why,1063 what5101 evil2556 hath he done?4160 But1161 they3588 cried out2896 the more,4057 saying,3004 Let him be crucified.4717

24 When1161 Pilate4091 saw1492 that3754 he could prevail5623 nothing,3762 but235 that rather3123 a tumult2351 was made,1096 he took2983 water,5204 and washed633 his hands5495 before561 the3588 multitude,3793 saying,3004 I am1510 innocent121 of575 the3588 blood129 of this5127 just person:1342 see3700 ye5210 to it.

25 Then2532 answered611 all3956 the3588 people,2992 and said,2036 His846 blood129 be on1909 us,2248 and2532 on1909 our2257 children.5043

26 Then5119 released630 he Barabbas912 unto them:846 and1161 when he had scourged5417 Jesus,2424 he delivered3860 him to2443 be crucified.4717

27 Then5119 the3588 soldiers4757 of the3588 governor2232 took3880 Jesus2424 into1519 the3588 common hall,4232 and gathered4863 unto1909 him846 the3588 whole3650 band4686 of soldiers.

28 And2532 they stripped1562 him,846 and put on4060 him846 a scarlet2847 robe.5511

29 And2532 when they had plaited4120 a crown4735 of1537 thorns,173 they put2007 it upon1909 his846 head,2776 and2532 a reed2563 in1909 his846 right hand:1188 and2532 they bowed the knee1120 before1715 him,846 and mocked1702 him,846 saying,3004 Hail,5463 King935 of the3588 Jews!2453

30 And2532 they spit1716 upon1519 him,846 and took2983 the3588 reed,2563 and2532 smote5180 him846 on1519 the3588 head.2776

31 And2532 after3753 that they had mocked1702 him,846 they took1562 the3588 robe5511 off from1562 him,846 and2532 put1746 his own846 raiment2440 on him,846 and2532 led him away520 846 to crucify4717 him.

32 And1161 as they came out,1831 they found2147 a man444 of Cyrene,2956 Simon4613 by name:3686 him5126 they compelled29 to2443 bear142 his846 cross.4716

33 And2532 when they were come2064 unto1519 a place5117 called3004 Golgotha,1115 that3739 is2076 to say,3004 a place5117 of a skull,2898

34 They gave1325 him846 vinegar3690 to drink4095 mingled3396 with3326 gall:5521 and2532 when he had tasted1089 thereof, he would2309 not3756 drink.4095

35 And1161 they crucified4717 him,846 and parted1266 his846 garments,2440 casting906 lots:2819 that2443 it might be fulfilled4137 which was spoken4483 by5259 the3588 prophet,4396 They parted1266 my3450 garments2440 among them,1438 and2532 upon1909 my3450 vesture2441 did they cast906 lots.2819

36 And2532 sitting down2521 they watched5083 him846 there;1563

37 And2532 set up2007 over1883 his846 head2776 his846 accusation156 written,1125 THIS3778 IS2076 JESUS2424 THE3588 KING935 OF THE3588 JEWS.2453

38 Then5119 were there two1417 thieves3027 crucified4717 with4862 him,846 one1520 on1537 the right hand,1188 and2532 another1520 on1537 the left.2176

39 And1161 they that passed by3899 reviled987 him,846 wagging2795 their848 heads,2776

40 And2532 saying,3004 Thou that destroyest2647 the3588 temple,3485 and2532 buildest3618 it in1722 three5140 days,2250 save4982 thyself.4572 If1487 thou be1488 the Son5207 of God,2316 come down2597 from575 the3588 cross.4716

41 1161 Likewise3668 also2532 the3588 chief priests749 mocking1702 him, with3326 the3588 scribes1122 and2532 elders,4245 said,3004

42 He saved4982 others;243 himself1438 he cannot1410 3756 save.4982 If1487 he be2076 the King935 of Israel,2474 let him now3568 come down2597 from575 the3588 cross,4716 and2532 we will believe4100 him.846

43 He trusted3982 in1909 God;2316 let him deliver4506 him846 now,3568 if1487 he will2309 have him:846 for1063 he said,2036 I am1510 the Son5207 of God.2316

44 1161 The3588 thieves3027 also,846 which were crucified with4957 him,846 cast the same in his teeth.3679 846

45 Now1161 from575 the sixth1623 hour5610 there was1096 darkness4655 over1909 all3956 the3588 land1093 unto2193 the ninth1766 hour.5610

46 And1161 about4012 the3588 ninth1766 hour5610 Jesus2424 cried310 with a loud3173 voice,5456 saying,3004 Eli,2241 Eli,2241 lama2982 sabachthani?4518 that is to say,5123 My3450 God,2316 my3450 God,2316 why2444 hast thou forsaken1459 me?3165

47 1161 Some5100 of them that stood2476 there,1563 when they heard191 that, said,3004 This3778 man calleth5455 for Elijah.2243

48 And2532 straightway2112 one1520 of1537 them846 ran,5143 and2532 took2983 a sponge,4699 and5037 filled4130 it with vinegar,3690 and2532 put4060 it on a reed,2563 and gave him to drink.4222 846

49 1161 The3588 rest3062 said,3004 Let be,863 let us see1492 whether1487 Elijah2243 will come2064 to save4982 him.846

50 1161 Jesus,2424 when he had cried2896 again3825 with a loud3173 voice,5456 yielded up863 the3588 ghost.4151

51 And,2532 behold,2400 the3588 veil2665 of the3588 temple3485 was rent4977 in1519 twain1417 from575 the top509 to2193 the bottom;2736 and2532 the3588 earth1093 did quake,4579 and2532 the3588 rocks4073 rent;4977

52 And2532 the3588 graves3419 were opened;455 and2532 many4183 bodies4983 of the3588 saints40 which slept2837 arose,1453

53 And2532 came1831 out of1537 the3588 graves3419 after3326 his846 resurrection,1454 and went1525 into1519 the3588 holy40 city,4172 and2532 appeared1718 unto many.4183

54 Now1161 when the3588 centurion,1543 and2532 they3588 that were with3326 him,846 watching5083 Jesus,2424 saw1492 the3588 earthquake,4578 and2532 those things that were done,1096 they feared5399 greatly,4970 saying,3004 Truly230 this3778 was2258 the Son5207 of God.2316

55 And1161 many4183 women1135 were2258 there1563 beholding2334 afar off,575 3113 which3748 followed190 Jesus2424 from575 Galilee,1056 ministering1247 unto him: 846

56 Among1722 which3739 was2258 Mary3137 Magdalene,3094 and2532 Mary3137 the3588 mother3384 of James2385 and2532 Joses,2500 and2532 the3588 mother3384 of Zebedee's2199 children.5207

57 When1161 the even3798 was come,1096 there came2064 a rich4145 man444 of575 Arimathaea,707 named5122 Joseph,2501 who3739 also2532 himself846 was Jesus' disciple:3100 2424

58 He3778 went4334 to Pilate,4091 and begged154 the3588 body4983 of Jesus.2424 Then5119 Pilate4091 commanded2753 the3588 body4983 to be delivered.591

59 And2532 when Joseph2501 had taken2983 the3588 body,4983 he wrapped1794 it846 in a clean2513 linen cloth,4616

60 And2532 laid5087 it846 in1722 his own848 new2537 tomb,3419 which3739 he had hewn out2998 in1722 the3588 rock:4073 and2532 he rolled4351 a great3173 stone3037 to the3588 door2374 of the3588 sepulcher,3419 and departed.565

61 And1161 there1563 was2258 Mary3137 Magdalene,3094 and2532 the3588 other243 Mary,3137 sitting2521 over against561 the3588 sepulcher.5028

62 Now1161 the3588 next day,1887 that3748 followed2076 3326 the day of the3588 preparation,3904 the3588 chief priests749 and2532 Pharisees5330 came together4863 unto4314 Pilate,4091

63 saying,3004 Sir,2962 we remember3415 that3754 that1565 deceiver4108 said,2036 while2089 he was yet alive,2198 After3326 three5140 days2250 I will rise again.1453

64 Command2753 therefore3767 that the3588 sepulcher5028 be made sure805 until2193 the3588 third5154 day,2250 lest3379 his846 disciples3101 come2064 by night,3571 and steal him away,2813 846 and2532 say2036 unto the3588 people,2992 He is risen1453 from575 the3588 dead:3498 so2532 the3588 last2078 error4106 shall be2071 worse5501 than the3588 first.4413

65 1161 Pilate4091 said5346 unto them,846 Ye have2192 a watch:2892 go your way,5217 make it as sure805 as5613 ye can.1492

66 So1161 they3588 went,4198 and made the sepulcher sure,805 3588 5028 sealing4972 the3588 stone,3037 and2532 setting a watch.3326 2892

Chapter 27

1 WHEN it was morning, the high priests and the elders of the people took counsel concerning Jesus, how to put him to death.

2 So they bound him, and took him and delivered him to Pilate the governor.

3 Then Judas the traitor, when he saw that Jesus was convicted, repented, and went away and brought back the same thirty pieces of silver to the high priests and the elders.

4 And he said, I have sinned, because I have betrayed innocent blood. But they said to him, What is that to us? You know better.

5 Then he threw the silver in the temple, and departed; and he went and hanged himself.

6 The high priests took the silver and said, It is not lawful to put it in the house of offerings, because it is the price of blood.

7 And they took counsel, and bought with it the potter's field, for a cemetery for strangers.

8 On this account that field was called The field of blood, to this day.

9 Then what was spoken by the prophet was fulfilled, who said, I took the thirty pieces of silver, the costly price which was bargained with the children of Israel.

10 And I gave them for the potter's field, as the Lord commanded me.

11 And Jesus stood before the governor; and the governor asked him and said to him, Are you the King of the Jews? Jesus said to him, You say that.

12 And while the chief priests and elders were accusing him, he gave no answer.

13 Then Pilate said to him, Do you not hear how much they testify against you?

14 But he did not answer him, not even a word; and because of this Pilate marvelled greatly.

15 Now on every feast day it was the custom of the governor to release one prisoner to the people, anyone whom they wanted.

16 They had a well-known prisoner, called Bar-Abbas, who was bound.

17 When they were gathered together, Pilate said to them, Whom do you want me to release to you? Bar-Abbas, or Jesus who is called the Christ?

18 For Pilate knew that because of envy they had delivered him.

19 When the governor was sitting on his judgment seat, his wife sent to him and said to him, Have nothing to do with that righteous man; for today I have suffered a great deal in my dream because of him.

20 But the high priests and the elders urged the people to ask for Bar-Abbas, and to destroy Jesus.

21 And the governor answered and said to them, Which of these two do you want me to release to you? They said, Bar-Abbas.

22 Pilate said to them, What shall I then do with Jesus who is called the Christ? They all said, Let him be crucified.

23 Pilate said to them, What evil has he done? But they cried out the more and said, Let him be crucified.

24 Now when Pilate saw that he was gaining nothing, but that instead confusion was increasing, he took water and washed his hands before the people, and said, I am innocent of the blood of this righteous man; do as you please.

25 All the people then answered and said, Let his blood be on us and on our children.

26 Then he released to them Bar-Abbas, and had Jesus scourged with whips, and delivered to be crucified.

27 Then the soldiers of the governor took Jesus into the Praetorium, and the whole company gathered around him.

28 And they removed his clothes and put on him a scarlet robe.

29 And they wove a crown of thorns and put it on his head, and a reed in his right hand; and they knelt on their knees before him, and they were mocking him and saying, Hail, King of the Jews!

30 And they spat in his face, and took the reed and struck him on his head.

31 And when they had mocked him, they took off the robe from him and put on him his own clothes, and took him away to be crucified.

32 And as they were going out, they found a man of Cyrene, whose name was Simon, whom they compelled to carry his cross.

33 And they came to a place which is called Golgotha, which is interpreted The Skull.

34 And they gave him to drink vinegar mixed with gall; and he tasted it, but he would not drink.

35 And when they had crucified him, they divided his clothes by casting lots.

36 And they were sitting there and watching him.

37 And they placed above his head in writing the reason for his death: THIS IS JESUS THE KING OF THE JEWS.

38 And there were crucified with him two bandits, one on his right and one on his left.

39 And those who passed by blasphemed against him, nodding their heads,

40 And saying, O you who can tear down the temple and build it in three days, deliver yourself, if you are the Son of God, and come down from the cross.

41 The high priests likewise were mocking, together with the scribes, the elders and the Pharisees.

42 And they were saying, He saved others, but he cannot save himself. If he is the King of Israel, let him now come down from the cross, so that we may see and believe in him.

43 He trusted in God; let him save him now, if he is pleased with him; for he said, I am God's Son.

44 The bandits also, who were crucified with him were reproaching him.

45 Now from the sixth hour, there was darkness over all the land, until the ninth hour.

46 And about the ninth hour, Jesus cried out with a loud voice and said, Eli, Eli, lmana shabachthani! which means, My God, my God, for this I was kept! *

47 Some of the men who were standing by, when they heard it, said, This man has called for Elijah.

48 And immediately one of them ran and took a sponge and filled it with vinegar, and put it on a reed, and gave him to drink.

49 But the rest said, Hush, let us see if Elijah will come to save him.

50 But Jesus again cried out with a loud voice, and gave up his breath.

51 And immediately the door curtains of the temple were rent in two, from the top to the bottom; and the earth quaked, and the rocks split;

52 And the tombs were opened; and the bodies of a great many saints who were sleeping in death rose up,

53 And they went out; and after his resurrection, they entered into the holy city, and appeared to a great many.

54 When the centurion and those who were with him watching Jesus, saw the earthquake and all that happened, they were very much frightened, and they said, Truly this man was the Son of God.

55 There were also many women there, who were looking from afar, those who had followed Jesus from Galilee, and who used to minister to him.

56 One of them was Mary of Magdala; and Mary the mother of James and Joses, and the mother of the sons of Zebedee.

57 When evening came, there came a rich man of Arimathaea, whose name was Joseph, who was also a disciple of Jesus.

58 He went to Pilate and asked for the body of Jesus. And Pilate commanded that the body should be given to him.

59 So Joseph took the body, and wrapped it in a shroud of fine linen,

60 And laid it in his own new tomb which was hewn in a rock; and they rolled a large stone, and placed it against the door of the tomb, and went away.

61 And there were there Mary of Magdala and the other Mary, who were sitting opposite the tomb.

62 The next day, which is after Friday, the high priests and the Pharisees together came to Pilate,

63 And they said to him, Our lord, we have just remembered that that deceiver used to say when he was alive, After three days I will rise again.

64 Now, therefore, command that precautions be taken at the tomb for three days. It is probable that his disciples may come and steal him at night, and then say to the people, He has risen from the dead; and the last deception will be worse than the first.

65 Pilate said to them, You have guards; go and take precautions as best you know.

66 So they went and kept a watch at the tomb, and together with the guards they sealed the stone.

5 And2532 he cast down4496 the3588 pieces of silver694 in1722 the3588 temple,3485 and departed,402 and2532 went565 and hanged519 himself.

5 Then he threw the silver in the temple, and departed; and he went and hanged himself.

6 And1161 the3588 chief priests749 took2983 the3588 silver pieces,694 and said,2036 It is not lawful1832 3756 for to put906 them846 into1519 the3588 treasury,2878 because1893 it is2076 the price5092 of blood.129

6 The high priests took the silver and said, It is not lawful to put it in the house of offerings, because it is the price of blood.

7 And1161 they took2983 counsel,4824 and bought59 with1537 them846 the3588 potter's2763 field,68 to bury strangers in.1519 5027 3581

7 And they took counsel, and bought with it the potter's field, for a cemetery for strangers.

8 Wherefore1352 that1565 field68 was called,2564 The field68 of blood,129 unto2193 this day.4594

8 On this account that field was called The field of blood, to this day.

9 Then what was spoken by the prophet was fulfilled, who said, I took the thirty pieces of silver, the costly price which was bargained with the children of Israel.

10 And2532 gave1325 them846 for1519 the3588 potter's2763 field,68 as2505 the Lord2962 appointed4929 me.3427

10 And I gave them for the potter's field, as the Lord commanded me.

11 And Jesus stood before the governor; and the governor asked him and said to him, Are you the King of the Jews? Jesus said to him, You say that.

12 And2532 when he846 was accused2723 of5259 the3588 chief priests749 and2532 elders,4245 he answered611 nothing.3762

12 And while the chief priests and elders were accusing him, he gave no answer.

13 Then5119 said3004 Pilate4091 unto him,846 Hearest191 thou not3756 how many things4214 they witness against2649 thee?4675

13 Then Pilate said to him, Do you not hear how much they testify against you?

14 And2532 he answered611 3756 him846 to4314 never3761 a1520 word;4487 insomuch5620 that the3588 governor2232 marveled2296 greatly.3029

14 But he did not answer him, not even a word; and because of this Pilate marvelled greatly.

15 Now1161 at2596 that feast1859 the3588 governor2232 was wont1486 to release630 unto the3588 people3793 a1520 prisoner,1198 whom3739 they would.2309

15 Now on every feast day it was the custom of the governor to release one prisoner to the people, anyone whom they wanted.

16 And1161 they had2192 then5119 a notable1978 prisoner,1198 called3004 Barabbas.912

16 They had a well-known prisoner, called Bar-Abbas, who was bound.

17 Therefore3767 when they846 were gathered together,4863 Pilate4091 said2036 unto them,846 Whom5101 will2309 ye that I release630 unto you?5213 Barabbas,912 or2228 Jesus2424 which is called3004 Christ?5547

17 When they were gathered together, Pilate said to them, Whom do you want me to release to you? Bar-Abbas, or Jesus who is called the Christ?

18 For1063 he knew1492 that3754 for1223 envy5355 they had delivered3860 him.846

18 For Pilate knew that because of envy they had delivered him.

19 When the governor was sitting on his judgment seat, his wife sent to him and said to him, Have nothing to do with that righteous man; for today I have suffered a great deal in my dream because of him.

20 But1161 the3588 chief priests749 and2532 elders4245 persuaded3982 the3588 multitude3793 that2443 they should ask154 Barabbas,912 and1161 destroy622 Jesus.2424

20 But the high priests and the elders urged the people to ask for Bar-Abbas, and to destroy Jesus.

21 1161 The3588 governor2232 answered611 and said2036 unto them,846 Whether5101 of575 the3588 twain1417 will2309 ye that I release630 unto you?5213 1161 They3588 said,2036 Barabbas.912

21 And the governor answered and said to them, Which of these two do you want me to release to you? They said, Bar-Abbas.

22 Pilate4091 saith3004 unto them,846 What5101 shall I do4160 then3767 with Jesus2424 which is called3004 Christ?5547 They all3956 say3004 unto him,846 Let him be crucified.4717

22 Pilate said to them, What shall I then do with Jesus who is called the Christ? They all said, Let him be crucified.

23 And1161 the3588 governor2232 said,5346 Why,1063 what5101 evil2556 hath he done?4160 But1161 they3588 cried out2896 the more,4057 saying,3004 Let him be crucified.4717

23 Pilate said to them, What evil has he done? But they cried out the more and said, Let him be crucified.

24 Now when Pilate saw that he was gaining nothing, but that instead confusion was increasing, he took water and washed his hands before the people, and said, I am innocent of the blood of this righteous man; do as you please.

25 Then2532 answered611 all3956 the3588 people,2992 and said,2036 His846 blood129 be on1909 us,2248 and2532 on1909 our2257 children.5043

25 All the people then answered and said, Let his blood be on us and on our children.

26 Then5119 released630 he Barabbas912 unto them:846 and1161 when he had scourged5417 Jesus,2424 he delivered3860 him to2443 be crucified.4717

26 Then he released to them Bar-Abbas, and had Jesus scourged with whips, and delivered to be crucified.

27 Then5119 the3588 soldiers4757 of the3588 governor2232 took3880 Jesus2424 into1519 the3588 common hall,4232 and gathered4863 unto1909 him846 the3588 whole3650 band4686 of soldiers.

27 Then the soldiers of the governor took Jesus into the Praetorium, and the whole company gathered around him.

28 And2532 they stripped1562 him,846 and put on4060 him846 a scarlet2847 robe.5511

28 And they removed his clothes and put on him a scarlet robe.

29 And they wove a crown of thorns and put it on his head, and a reed in his right hand; and they knelt on their knees before him, and they were mocking him and saying, Hail, King of the Jews!

30 And2532 they spit1716 upon1519 him,846 and took2983 the3588 reed,2563 and2532 smote5180 him846 on1519 the3588 head.2776

30 And they spat in his face, and took the reed and struck him on his head.

31 And2532 after3753 that they had mocked1702 him,846 they took1562 the3588 robe5511 off from1562 him,846 and2532 put1746 his own846 raiment2440 on him,846 and2532 led him away520 846 to crucify4717 him.

31 And when they had mocked him, they took off the robe from him and put on him his own clothes, and took him away to be crucified.

32 And1161 as they came out,1831 they found2147 a man444 of Cyrene,2956 Simon4613 by name:3686 him5126 they compelled29 to2443 bear142 his846 cross.4716

32 And as they were going out, they found a man of Cyrene, whose name was Simon, whom they compelled to carry his cross.

33 And2532 when they were come2064 unto1519 a place5117 called3004 Golgotha,1115 that3739 is2076 to say,3004 a place5117 of a skull,2898

33 And they came to a place which is called Golgotha, which is interpreted The Skull.

34 They gave1325 him846 vinegar3690 to drink4095 mingled3396 with3326 gall:5521 and2532 when he had tasted1089 thereof, he would2309 not3756 drink.4095

34 And they gave him to drink vinegar mixed with gall; and he tasted it, but he would not drink.

35 And when they had crucified him, they divided his clothes by casting lots.

36 And2532 sitting down2521 they watched5083 him846 there;1563

36 And they were sitting there and watching him.

37 And2532 set up2007 over1883 his846 head2776 his846 accusation156 written,1125 THIS3778 IS2076 JESUS2424 THE3588 KING935 OF THE3588 JEWS.2453

37 And they placed above his head in writing the reason for his death: THIS IS JESUS THE KING OF THE JEWS.

38 Then5119 were there two1417 thieves3027 crucified4717 with4862 him,846 one1520 on1537 the right hand,1188 and2532 another1520 on1537 the left.2176

38 And there were crucified with him two bandits, one on his right and one on his left.

39 And1161 they that passed by3899 reviled987 him,846 wagging2795 their848 heads,2776

39 And those who passed by blasphemed against him, nodding their heads,

40 And2532 saying,3004 Thou that destroyest2647 the3588 temple,3485 and2532 buildest3618 it in1722 three5140 days,2250 save4982 thyself.4572 If1487 thou be1488 the Son5207 of God,2316 come down2597 from575 the3588 cross.4716

40 And saying, O you who can tear down the temple and build it in three days, deliver yourself, if you are the Son of God, and come down from the cross.

41 1161 Likewise3668 also2532 the3588 chief priests749 mocking1702 him, with3326 the3588 scribes1122 and2532 elders,4245 said,3004

41 The high priests likewise were mocking, together with the scribes, the elders and the Pharisees.

42 He saved4982 others;243 himself1438 he cannot1410 3756 save.4982 If1487 he be2076 the King935 of Israel,2474 let him now3568 come down2597 from575 the3588 cross,4716 and2532 we will believe4100 him.846

42 And they were saying, He saved others, but he cannot save himself. If he is the King of Israel, let him now come down from the cross, so that we may see and believe in him.

43 He trusted3982 in1909 God;2316 let him deliver4506 him846 now,3568 if1487 he will2309 have him:846 for1063 he said,2036 I am1510 the Son5207 of God.2316

43 He trusted in God; let him save him now, if he is pleased with him; for he said, I am God's Son.

44 1161 The3588 thieves3027 also,846 which were crucified with4957 him,846 cast the same in his teeth.3679 846

44 The bandits also, who were crucified with him were reproaching him.

45 Now1161 from575 the sixth1623 hour5610 there was1096 darkness4655 over1909 all3956 the3588 land1093 unto2193 the ninth1766 hour.5610

45 Now from the sixth hour, there was darkness over all the land, until the ninth hour.

46 And about the ninth hour, Jesus cried out with a loud voice and said, Eli, Eli, lmana shabachthani! which means, My God, my God, for this I was kept! *

47 1161 Some5100 of them that stood2476 there,1563 when they heard191 that, said,3004 This3778 man calleth5455 for Elijah.2243

47 Some of the men who were standing by, when they heard it, said, This man has called for Elijah.

48 And2532 straightway2112 one1520 of1537 them846 ran,5143 and2532 took2983 a sponge,4699 and5037 filled4130 it with vinegar,3690 and2532 put4060 it on a reed,2563 and gave him to drink.4222 846

48 And immediately one of them ran and took a sponge and filled it with vinegar, and put it on a reed, and gave him to drink.

49 1161 The3588 rest3062 said,3004 Let be,863 let us see1492 whether1487 Elijah2243 will come2064 to save4982 him.846

49 But the rest said, Hush, let us see if Elijah will come to save him.

50 1161 Jesus,2424 when he had cried2896 again3825 with a loud3173 voice,5456 yielded up863 the3588 ghost.4151

50 But Jesus again cried out with a loud voice, and gave up his breath.

51 And immediately the door curtains of the temple were rent in two, from the top to the bottom; and the earth quaked, and the rocks split;

52 And2532 the3588 graves3419 were opened;455 and2532 many4183 bodies4983 of the3588 saints40 which slept2837 arose,1453

52 And the tombs were opened; and the bodies of a great many saints who were sleeping in death rose up,

53 And2532 came1831 out of1537 the3588 graves3419 after3326 his846 resurrection,1454 and went1525 into1519 the3588 holy40 city,4172 and2532 appeared1718 unto many.4183

53 And they went out; and after his resurrection, they entered into the holy city, and appeared to a great many.

54 When the centurion and those who were with him watching Jesus, saw the earthquake and all that happened, they were very much frightened, and they said, Truly this man was the Son of God.

55 And1161 many4183 women1135 were2258 there1563 beholding2334 afar off,575 3113 which3748 followed190 Jesus2424 from575 Galilee,1056 ministering1247 unto him: 846

55 There were also many women there, who were looking from afar, those who had followed Jesus from Galilee, and who used to minister to him.

56 Among1722 which3739 was2258 Mary3137 Magdalene,3094 and2532 Mary3137 the3588 mother3384 of James2385 and2532 Joses,2500 and2532 the3588 mother3384 of Zebedee's2199 children.5207

56 One of them was Mary of Magdala; and Mary the mother of James and Joses, and the mother of the sons of Zebedee.

57 When1161 the even3798 was come,1096 there came2064 a rich4145 man444 of575 Arimathaea,707 named5122 Joseph,2501 who3739 also2532 himself846 was Jesus' disciple:3100 2424

57 When evening came, there came a rich man of Arimathaea, whose name was Joseph, who was also a disciple of Jesus.

58 He3778 went4334 to Pilate,4091 and begged154 the3588 body4983 of Jesus.2424 Then5119 Pilate4091 commanded2753 the3588 body4983 to be delivered.591

58 He went to Pilate and asked for the body of Jesus. And Pilate commanded that the body should be given to him.

59 And2532 when Joseph2501 had taken2983 the3588 body,4983 he wrapped1794 it846 in a clean2513 linen cloth,4616

59 So Joseph took the body, and wrapped it in a shroud of fine linen,

60 And2532 laid5087 it846 in1722 his own848 new2537 tomb,3419 which3739 he had hewn out2998 in1722 the3588 rock:4073 and2532 he rolled4351 a great3173 stone3037 to the3588 door2374 of the3588 sepulcher,3419 and departed.565

60 And laid it in his own new tomb which was hewn in a rock; and they rolled a large stone, and placed it against the door of the tomb, and went away.

61 And1161 there1563 was2258 Mary3137 Magdalene,3094 and2532 the3588 other243 Mary,3137 sitting2521 over against561 the3588 sepulcher.5028

61 And there were there Mary of Magdala and the other Mary, who were sitting opposite the tomb.

62 Now1161 the3588 next day,1887 that3748 followed2076 3326 the day of the3588 preparation,3904 the3588 chief priests749 and2532 Pharisees5330 came together4863 unto4314 Pilate,4091

62 The next day, which is after Friday, the high priests and the Pharisees together came to Pilate,

63 saying,3004 Sir,2962 we remember3415 that3754 that1565 deceiver4108 said,2036 while2089 he was yet alive,2198 After3326 three5140 days2250 I will rise again.1453

63 And they said to him, Our lord, we have just remembered that that deceiver used to say when he was alive, After three days I will rise again.

64 Now, therefore, command that precautions be taken at the tomb for three days. It is probable that his disciples may come and steal him at night, and then say to the people, He has risen from the dead; and the last deception will be worse than the first.

65 1161 Pilate4091 said5346 unto them,846 Ye have2192 a watch:2892 go your way,5217 make it as sure805 as5613 ye can.1492

65 Pilate said to them, You have guards; go and take precautions as best you know.

66 So1161 they3588 went,4198 and made the sepulcher sure,805 3588 5028 sealing4972 the3588 stone,3037 and2532 setting a watch.3326 2892

66 So they went and kept a watch at the tomb, and together with the guards they sealed the stone.
