1 EXCEPT the LORD build the house, they labor in vain who build it; except the LORD keep the city, the watchmen stay awake in vain.

2 It is in vain for those who rise up early, who sit up late; they eat the bread of sorrows, for so he gives in sleep to his beloved.

3 Lo, children are a heritage of the LORD; and the fruit of the womb is a reward.

4 Like arrows in the hand of a mighty man; so are children of the youth.

5 Blessed is the man who has his quiver full of them; he shall not be ashamed, but shall speak with enemies in the gate.

1 （所羅門上行之詩。）若不是耶和華建造房屋，建造的人就枉然勞力；若不是耶和華看守城池，看守的人就枉然警醒。

2 你們清晨早起，夜晚安歇，吃愁苦的餅［bread of sorrows］，本是枉然；唯有耶和華所親愛的，必叫他安然睡覺。

3 看哪［lo］，兒女是耶和華所賜的產業；所懷的胎是他所給的賞賜。

4 少年時所生的兒女好像勇士手中的箭。

5 箭袋充滿的人便為有福；他們在城門口和仇敵說話的時候，必不至於羞愧。
