Chapter 7

1 FOR this Mel-chis'e-dec was king of Sa lem, the priest of the most high God, who met A'bra-ham, returning from the slaughter of the kings, and blessed him;

2 And to whom A'bra-ham also set aside a tenth part from the choice things he had with him. His name is interpreted King of righteousness, and again, King of Salem, which means King of peace.

3 Neither his father nor his mother is recorded in the genealogies; and neither the beginning of his days nor the end of his life; but, like the Son of God, his priesthood abides for ever.

4 Now consider how great this man was, unto whom even the patriarch Abraham gave tithes and paid head tax.

5 For those sons of Levi who received the office of the priesthood, were authorized by law to take tithes from the people; even from their own brethren who also had come out of the loins of Abraham.

6 But this man who is not recorded in their genealogies took tithes even from Abraham, and blessed him who had received the promises.

7 Beyond dispute: he who was less was blessed by him who was greater than himself.

8 And here mortal men receive tithes; but there he, of whom the scripture testifies that he lives, receives them.

9 Speaking as a man, through A'bra-ham, even Levi who received tithes, also gave tithes.

10 For he was yet in the loins of his forefather Abraham, when Mel-chis'e-dec met him.

11 If therefore perfection had been reached by the Le-vit'ic-al priesthood, by which the law was enacted for the people, what further need was there that another priest should rise after the order of Mel-chis'e-dec? Otherwise, the scriptures would have said, that he would be after the order of Aaron.

12 Since there was a change in the priesthood, so also there was a change in the law.

13 For he, concerning whom these things are spoken, was born of another tribe, from which no man ever ministered at the altar.

14 For it is evident that our LORD sprang out of Juda, of which tribe Moses said nothing concerning the priesthood.

15 And yet, it is far more evident because he said that another priest would rise after the order of Mel-chis'e-dec,

16 One who was not appointed after the law of carnal commandments, but after the power of life which abides for ever.

17 For he testified concerning him, Thou art a priest for ever after the order of Melchis'e- dec.

18 For the change which took place in the former law, was made on account of its weaknesses, and because it had become useless.

19 For the law made nothing perfect, but there has come in its place a better hope, by which we draw near to God.

20 And he confirmed it for us by oath.

21 For they were made priests without oaths; but this one was made a priest with an oath, as it was said concerning him by David, The LORD has sworn, and will not lie, Thou art a priest for ever after the order of Mel-chis'edec.

22 All these things make a better covenant because Jesus is its surety.

23 And these priests were many, because they were mortal, and they were not permitted to continue because of death:

24 But this man, because he is immortal, has a priesthood which remains for ever.

25 Therefore he is able to forever save those who come to God by him because forever he lives to make intercession for them.

26 For this is the kind of high priest proper for us; pure, without evil, and undefiled, far away from sin, and made higher than the heavens;

27 And who needs not daily, as do those high priests, to offer up sacrifice, first for their own sins, and then for the people's, for this he did once when he offered up himself.

28 For the law appoints imperfect men priests; but the word of the oath which came after the law appoints the Son who is perfect for evermore.

Kapitel 7

1 Dieser Melchisedek3198 aber war ein König935 zu Salem4532, ein Priester2409 Gottes2316, des3588 Allerhöchsten5310, der Abraham11 entgegenging4876, da2532 er3778 von575 der Könige935 Schlacht2871 wiederkam5290, und1063 segnete2127 ihn846,

2 welchem auch2532 Abraham11 gab den575 Zehnten1181 aller3956 Güter. Aufs erste wird3307 er verdolmetscht2059 ein König935 der Gerechtigkeit1343; danach1899 aber1161 ist3303 er auch2532 ein König935 Salem4532, das3739 ist2076, ein König935 des Friedens1515;

3 ohne Vater540, ohne Mutter282, ohne Geschlecht35; und hat2192 weder3383 Anfang746 der Tage2250 noch3383 Ende5056 des Lebens2222. Er ist aber1161 verglichen871 dem Sohn Gottes2316 und bleibet3306 Priester2409 in Ewigkeit1336.

4 Schauet2334 aber1161, wie groß4080 ist der3778, dem3739 auch2532 Abraham11, der Patriarch3966, den Zehnten1181 gibt1325 von1537 der eroberten Beute205!

5 Zwar3303 die Kinder Levi3017, da sie das Priestertum2405 empfangen, haben2192 sie ein Gebot1785, den Zehnten586 vom Volk2992, das ist5123, von1537 ihren Brüdern80, zu nehmen2983 nach2596 dem3588 Gesetz3551, wiewohl2539 auch2532 dieselben aus1537 den Lenden3751 Abrahams11 kommen1831 sind.

6 Aber1161 der, des846 Geschlecht nicht3361 genannt wird1075 unter ihnen, der nahm1183 den Zehnten von1537 Abraham11 und2532 segnete2127 den, der die Verheißung1860 hatte2192.

7 Nun1161 ist‘s ohne5565 alles Widersprechen485 also, daß das3956 Geringere1640 von5259 dem Besseren2909 gesegnet2127 wird.

8 Und2532 hier nehmen2983 den3303 Zehnten1181 die sterbenden599 Menschen444; aber1161 dort1563 bezeuget er, daß3754 er lebe2198.

9 Und2532 daß5613 ich also sage2036, es ist auch2532 Levi3017, der den3588 Zehnten1181 nimmt2983, verzehntet1183 durch1223 Abraham11.

10 Denn1063 er846 war2258 je noch2089 in1722 den Lenden3751 des Vaters3962, da3753 ihm Melchisedek3198 entgegenging4876.

11 Ist3303 nun3767 die846 Vollkommenheit5050 durch1223 das1909 levitische3020 Priestertum2420 geschehen (denn1063 unter demselbigen hat450 das Volk2992 das Gesetz empfangen3549), was5101 ist2258 denn weiter2089 not5532 zu sagen3004, daß ein anderer2087 Priester2409 aufkommen solle nach2596 der Ordnung5010 Melchisedeks3198 und2532 nicht3756 nach2596 der Ordnung5010 Aarons2?

12 Denn1063 wo das Priestertum2420 verändert3331 wird3346, da muß1537 auch2532 das Gesetz3551 verändert werden1096.

13 Denn1063 von575 dem3739 solches5023 gesagt3004 ist3348, der ist von einem andern2087 Geschlecht5443, aus welchem3739 nie keiner3762 des Altars2379 gepfleget hat1909.

14 Denn1063 es ist ja offenbar4271, daß3754 von1537 Juda2455 aufgegangen393 ist unser2257 HErr2962; zu1519 welchem3739 Geschlecht5443 Mose3475 nicht3762 geredet hat2980 vom4012 Priestertum2420.

15 Und2532 es ist2076 noch2089 viel4054 klarer2612, so1487 nach2596 der Weise3665 Melchisedeks3198 ein anderer2087 Priester2409 aufkommt450,

16 welcher3739 nicht3756 nach2596 dem Gesetz3551 des fleischlichen4559 Gebots1785 gemacht1096 ist, sondern235 nach2596 der Kraft1411 des unendlichen179 Lebens2222.

17 Denn1063 er bezeuget: Du4771 bist ein Priester2409 ewiglich165 nach1519 der2596 Ordnung5010 Melchisedeks3198.

18 Denn1063 damit wird1096 das vorige4254 Gesetz1785 aufgehoben115, darum1223 daß es846 zu schwach772 und3303 nicht2532 nütze512 war

19 (denn1063 das3739 Gesetz3551 konnte nichts3762 vollkommen5048 machen), und1161 wird eingeführet eine bessere2909 Hoffnung1680, durch1223 welche wir zu GOtt2316 nahen1448;

20 und2532 dazu, das viel3745 ist, nicht3756 ohne5565 Eid3728. Denn jene sind ohne Eid Priester worden;

21 dieser aber1161 mit2596 dem Eid3728 durch1223 den, der zu4314 ihm846 spricht3004: Der HErr2962 hat3660 geschworen, und1063 wird1096 ihn3338 nicht2532 gereuen3338: Du4771 bist ein Priester2409 in1519 Ewigkeit165 nach3326 der Ordnung5010 Melchisedeks3198.

22 Also2596 eines so viel5118 besseren2909 Testaments1242 Ausrichter1450 ist1096 JEsus2424 worden.

23 Und2532 jener sind1526 viel4119, die Priester2409 wurden1096, darum1223 daß1223 sie der3303 Tod2288 nicht bleiben3887 ließ2967;

24 dieser aber1161 darum1223, daß er846 bleibet3306 ewiglich165, hat2192 er ein unvergänglich Priestertum2420;

25 daher3606 er846 auch selig machen4982 kann1410 immerdar3842, die durch1223 ihn zu1519 GOtt2316 kommen4334, und2532 lebet2198 immerdar und bittet1793 für1519 sie846.

26 Denn1063 einen solchen Hohenpriester749 sollten wir2254 haben4241, der da wäre1096 heilig3741, unschuldig172, unbefleckt283, von575 den Sündern268 abgesondert5563 und2532 höher5308, denn der Himmel3772 ist5108,

27 dem nicht3756 täglich not318 wäre wie5618 jenen Hohenpriestern749, zuerst4386 für5228 eigene2398 Sünden266 Opfer2378 zu tun399, danach für des Volks2992 Sünden; denn1063 das3739 hat2192 er getan4160 einmal2178, da1899 er sich selbst1438 opferte399.

28 Denn1063 das Gesetz3551 macht2525 Menschen zu1519 Hohenpriestern749, die da Schwachheit769 haben2192; dies Wort3056 aber1161 des Eides3728, das nach3326 dem3588 Gesetz3551 gesagt ist, setzet den444 Sohn ewig165 und vollkommen5048.
