Chapter 4

1 AND while they were speaking these words to the people, the priests and the Sad'du-cees and the leaders of the temple rose up against them,

2 Being infuriated that they taught the people and preached through Jesus the resurrection from the dead.

3 And they laid hands on them and detained them until the next day, for it was now eventide.

4 Howbeit many of them who heard the word believed; and the number of the men was about five thousand.

5 And the next day, the leaders and the elders and the scribes gathered together;

6 And also Annas the high priest, and Ca'iaphas and John and Alexander and those who were of the family of the high priest.

7 And when they had made them to stand in the midst, they asked, By what power or by what name have you done this?

8 Then Simon Peter, filled with the Holy Spirit, said to them, Leaders of the people and elders of the house of Israel, listen.

9 If we are convicted today by you, concerning the good which has been done to a sick man, on the ground of by what means he was healed;

10 Then let it be known to you, and to all the people of Israel, By the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom you crucified, and whom God raised from the dead, behold this man stands before you, healed.

11 This is the stone which you builders have rejected, which is become the head of the corner.

12 There is no salvation by any other man; for there is no other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.

13 Now when they had heard the speech of Simon Peter and John, which they had spoken boldly, and perceived that they were unlearned and ignorant men, they marvelled; and they recognized them that they had been with Jesus.

14 And because they saw the lame man who was healed standing with them they could say nothing against them.

15 But when they had commanded them to be taken aside out of the council, they conferred among themselves,

16 Saying, What shall we do to these men? for behold a miracle has openly been performed by them and it is known to all that dwell in Jerusalem; and we cannot deny it.

17 But, so that this news should not spread further among the people, let us threaten them, that they speak henceforth to no man in this name.

18 And they called them, and commanded them not to speak at all nor teach in the name of Jesus.

19 But Simon Peter and John answered and said to them, Whether it be right before God to listen to you more than to God, you judge.

20 For we cannot stop speaking about the things which we have seen and heard.

21 So when they had further threatened them, they let them go; for they found no cause to punish them because of the people: for all men praised God for that which was done.

22 For the man on whom this miracle of healing had been wrought, was more than forty years old.

23 After they were released, they went to their brethren and told them all that the high priests and elders had said.

24 And when they heard this, they all together lifted up their voice to God and said, O LORD, you are the God who has made heaven and earth and the seas and all that in them is:

25 You are the One who spoke through the Holy Spirit by the mouth of your servant David when he said, Why did the people rage and the nations devise worthless things?

26 The kings and the rulers of the earth have revolted and have taken counsel together against the LORD and against his Anointed.

27 For truly, they assembled in this very city, together with both Herod and Pilate and with the Gentiles and with the people of Israel, against your holy Son Jesus,

28 To execute whatever your hand and your will had previously decreed to take place.

29 And even now, O LORD, look and see their threatenings; and grant to your servants that they may freely preach your word,

30 Just as your hand is freely stretched out for healings, and wonders and the miracles which are done in the name of your holy Son Jesus.

31 And when they had petitioned and made their supplications, the place in which they were assembled together was shaken, and they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and they spoke the word of God boldly.

32 Now the congregation of the believers were of one soul and of one mind; not one of them spoke of the property he possessed as his own; but everything they had was in common.

33 And the apostles testified with great power concerning the resurrection of Jesus Christ; and they were all greatly favored.

34 There was not a man among them who was destitute; for those who possessed fields and houses sold them and brought the money for the things that were sold,

35 And placed them at the disposal of the disciples; and the proceeds were then given to every man according to his needs.

36 Now Joseph whom the apostles surnamed Bar'na-bas (which is, interpreted, the son of consolation), a Levite of the country of Cy'prus,

37 Had a field and he sold it and brought the price and placed it at the disposal of the apostles.

Chapter 4

1 And as they spoke2980 to the people,2992 the priests,2409 and the captain4755 of the temple,2411 and the Sadducees,4523 came2186 on them,

2 Being grieved1278 that they taught1321 the people,2992 and preached2605 through1722 Jesus2424 the resurrection386 from the dead.3498

3 And they laid1911 hands5495 on them, and put5087 them in hold5084 to the next839 day:839 for it was now2235 eventide.2073

4 However, many4183 of them which heard191 the word3056 believed;4100 and the number706 of the men435 was about5616 five4002 thousand.5505

5 And it came1096 to pass on1909 the morrow,839 that their rulers,758 and elders,4245 and scribes,1122

6 And Annas452 the high749 priest,749 and Caiaphas,2533 and John,2491 and Alexander,223 and as many3745 as were of the kindred1085 of the high749 priest,748 were gathered4863 together4863 at1519 Jerusalem.2419

7 And when they had set2476 them in the middle,3319 they asked,4441 By what4169 power,1411 or2228 by what4169 name,3686 have you done4160 this?5124

8 Then5119 Peter,4074 filled4130 with the Holy40 Ghost,4151 said2036 to them, You rulers758 of the people,2992 and elders4245 of Israel,2474

9 If1487 we this4594 day4594 be examined350 of the good2108 deed2108 done to the weak772 man,444 by what5101 means he is made4982 whole;4982

10 Be it known1110 to you all,3956 and to all3956 the people2992 of Israel,2474 that by the name3686 of Jesus2424 Christ5547 of Nazareth,3478 whom3739 you crucified,4717 whom3739 God2316 raised1453 from the dead,3498 even by him does this3778 man stand3936 here3936 before1799 you whole.5199

11 This3778 is the stone3037 which3588 was set1848 at1848 nothing1848 of you builders,3618 which3588 is become1096 1519 the head2776 of the corner.1137

12 Neither2532 3756 is there salvation4991 in any3762 other:243 for there is none3777 other2087 name3686 under5259 heaven3772 given1325 among1722 men,444 whereby1722 3739 we must1163 be saved.4982

13 Now1161 when they saw2334 the boldness3954 of Peter4074 and John,2491 and perceived2638 that they were unlearned62 and ignorant2399 men,444 they marveled;2296 and they took1921 knowledge1921 of them, that they had been2258 with Jesus.2424

14 And beholding991 the man444 which was healed2323 standing2476 with them, they could2192 say471 nothing3762 against471 it.

15 But when they had commanded2753 them to go565 aside565 out of the council,4892 they conferred4820 among4314 themselves,240

16 Saying,3004 What5101 shall we do4160 to these5125 men?444 for that indeed3303 a notable1110 miracle4592 has been done1096 by them is manifest5319 to all3956 them that dwell2730 in Jerusalem;2419 and we cannot3756 1410 deny720 it.

17 But that it spread1268 no3361 further1909 4118 among1519 the people,2992 let us straightly547 threaten546 them, that they speak2980 from now on3371 to no3367 man444 in this5129 name.3686

18 And they called2564 them, and commanded3853 them not to speak5350 at2527 all2527 nor3366 teach1321 in the name3686 of Jesus.2424

19 But Peter4074 and John2491 answered611 and said2036 to them, Whether1487 it be right1342 in the sight1799 of God2316 to listen191 to you more3123 than2228 to God,2316 judge2919 you.

20 For we cannot3756 1410 but speak2980 the things which3739 we have seen1492 and heard.191

21 So1161 when they had further threatened4324 them, they let them go,630 finding2147 nothing3367 how4459 they might punish2849 them, because1223 of the people:2992 for all3956 men glorified1392 God2316 for that which was done.1096

22 For the man444 was above4119 forty5062 years2094 old, on1909 whom3739 this5124 miracle4592 of healing2392 was showed.1096

23 And being let go,630 they went2064 to their own2398 company,2398 and reported518 all3745 that the chief749 priests749 and elders4245 had said2036 to them.

24 And when they heard191 that, they lifted142 up their voice5456 to God2316 with one3661 accord,3661 and said,2036 Lord,1203 you are God,2316 which3588 have made4160 heaven,3772 and earth,1093 and the sea,2281 and all3956 that in them is:

25 Who3588 by the mouth4750 of your servant3816 David1138 have said,2036 Why2444 did the heathen1484 rage,5433 and the people2992 imagine3191 vain2756 things?

26 The kings935 of the earth1093 stood3936 up, and the rulers758 were gathered4863 together1909 against2596 the Lord,2962 and against2596 his Christ.5547

27 For of a truth225 against1909 your holy40 child3816 Jesus,2424 whom3739 you have anointed,5548 both5037 Herod,2264 and Pontius4194 Pilate,4091 with the Gentiles,1484 and the people2992 of Israel,2474 were gathered4863 together,4863

28 For to do4160 whatever3745 your hand5495 and your counsel1012 determined4309 before4309 to be done.1096

29 And now,3568 Lord,2962 behold1896 their threatenings:547 and grant1325 to your servants,1401 that with all3956 boldness3954 they may speak2980 your word,3056

30 By stretching1614 forth1614 your4675 hand5495 to heal;2392 and that signs4592 and wonders5059 may be done1096 by the name3686 of your holy40 child3816 Jesus.2424

31 And when they had prayed,1189 the place5117 was shaken4531 where1722 3739 they were assembled4863 together;4863 and they were all537 filled4130 with the Holy40 Ghost,4151 and they spoke2980 the word3056 of God2316 with boldness.3954

32 And the multitude4128 of them that believed4100 were of one heart2588 and of one3391 soul:5590 neither3761 said3004 any1520 of them that ought5100 of the things which he possessed5224 was his own;2398 but they had1510 all537 things common.2839

33 And with great3173 power1411 gave591 the apostles652 witness3142 of the resurrection386 of the Lord2962 Jesus:2424 and great3173 grace5485 was on them all.3956

34 Neither3761 was there any5100 among1722 them that lacked:1729 for as many3745 as were possessors2935 of lands5564 or2228 houses3614 sold4453 them, and brought5342 the prices5092 of the things that were sold,4097

35 And laid5087 them down at3844 the apostles'652 feet:4228 and distribution1239 was made1239 to every1538 man according2530 as he had2192 need.5532

36 And Joses,2500 who3588 by the apostles652 was surnamed1941 Barnabas,921 (which3739 is, being interpreted,3177 The son5207 of consolation,3874) a Levite,3019 and of the country1085 of Cyprus,2954

37 Having5225 846 land,68 sold4453 it, and brought5342 the money,5536 and laid5087 it at3844 the apostles'652 feet.4228

8 Then Simon Peter, filled with the Holy Spirit, said to them, Leaders of the people and elders of the house of Israel, listen.

15 But when they had commanded them to be taken aside out of the council, they conferred among themselves,

15 But when they had commanded2753 them to go565 aside565 out of the council,4892 they conferred4820 among4314 themselves,240

16 Saying, What shall we do to these men? for behold a miracle has openly been performed by them and it is known to all that dwell in Jerusalem; and we cannot deny it.

17 But that it spread1268 no3361 further1909 4118 among1519 the people,2992 let us straightly547 threaten546 them, that they speak2980 from now on3371 to no3367 man444 in this5129 name.3686

18 And they called them, and commanded them not to speak at all nor teach in the name of Jesus.

18 And they called2564 them, and commanded3853 them not to speak5350 at2527 all2527 nor3366 teach1321 in the name3686 of Jesus.2424

19 But Simon Peter and John answered and said to them, Whether it be right before God to listen to you more than to God, you judge.

19 But Peter4074 and John2491 answered611 and said2036 to them, Whether1487 it be right1342 in the sight1799 of God2316 to listen191 to you more3123 than2228 to God,2316 judge2919 you.

20 For we cannot stop speaking about the things which we have seen and heard.

20 For we cannot3756 1410 but speak2980 the things which3739 we have seen1492 and heard.191

21 So when they had further threatened them, they let them go; for they found no cause to punish them because of the people: for all men praised God for that which was done.

21 So1161 when they had further threatened4324 them, they let them go,630 finding2147 nothing3367 how4459 they might punish2849 them, because1223 of the people:2992 for all3956 men glorified1392 God2316 for that which was done.1096

26 The kings and the rulers of the earth have revolted and have taken counsel together against the LORD and against his Anointed.

26 The kings935 of the earth1093 stood3936 up, and the rulers758 were gathered4863 together1909 against2596 the Lord,2962 and against2596 his Christ.5547

28 To execute whatever your hand and your will had previously decreed to take place.

28 For to do4160 whatever3745 your hand5495 and your counsel1012 determined4309 before4309 to be done.1096

29 And even now, O LORD, look and see their threatenings; and grant to your servants that they may freely preach your word,

29 And now,3568 Lord,2962 behold1896 their threatenings:547 and grant1325 to your servants,1401 that with all3956 boldness3954 they may speak2980 your word,3056

30 Just as your hand is freely stretched out for healings, and wonders and the miracles which are done in the name of your holy Son Jesus.

30 By stretching1614 forth1614 your4675 hand5495 to heal;2392 and that signs4592 and wonders5059 may be done1096 by the name3686 of your holy40 child3816 Jesus.2424

31 And when they had petitioned and made their supplications, the place in which they were assembled together was shaken, and they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and they spoke the word of God boldly.

31 And when they had prayed,1189 the place5117 was shaken4531 where1722 3739 they were assembled4863 together;4863 and they were all537 filled4130 with the Holy40 Ghost,4151 and they spoke2980 the word3056 of God2316 with boldness.3954

32 Now the congregation of the believers were of one soul and of one mind; not one of them spoke of the property he possessed as his own; but everything they had was in common.

33 And the apostles testified with great power concerning the resurrection of Jesus Christ; and they were all greatly favored.

33 And with great3173 power1411 gave591 the apostles652 witness3142 of the resurrection386 of the Lord2962 Jesus:2424 and great3173 grace5485 was on them all.3956

34 There was not a man among them who was destitute; for those who possessed fields and houses sold them and brought the money for the things that were sold,

34 Neither3761 was there any5100 among1722 them that lacked:1729 for as many3745 as were possessors2935 of lands5564 or2228 houses3614 sold4453 them, and brought5342 the prices5092 of the things that were sold,4097

35 And placed them at the disposal of the disciples; and the proceeds were then given to every man according to his needs.

35 And laid5087 them down at3844 the apostles'652 feet:4228 and distribution1239 was made1239 to every1538 man according2530 as he had2192 need.5532

36 Now Joseph whom the apostles surnamed Bar'na-bas (which is, interpreted, the son of consolation), a Levite of the country of Cy'prus,

36 And Joses,2500 who3588 by the apostles652 was surnamed1941 Barnabas,921 (which3739 is, being interpreted,3177 The son5207 of consolation,3874) a Levite,3019 and of the country1085 of Cyprus,2954

37 Had a field and he sold it and brought the price and placed it at the disposal of the apostles.

37 Having5225 846 land,68 sold4453 it, and brought5342 the money,5536 and laid5087 it at3844 the apostles'652 feet.4228
